    Hi Sirmattus,
in ESO you have 2 major types of CC - Crowd Control effects. The ability you mentioned is one of the spammable CCs, as are root- (immovable) and slow-effects (soft CC vs. hard CC, which are: stun, disable, knockdown, interrupt, etc.).
Vs. ROOT and SLOW you might want to slot a skill just because of the purpose, that could be: PURGE from the alliance-war skills, or RAPID MANEUVER (same), or teleport (mage), or purifying ritual (templar).
The other way around is: roll dodge, or simply to use a "charge attack" (many skills).

Soft CCs can be applied an infinite number of times. I've been criticizing this since release of the game, as it means: no way out of crowd control + stu_id players abusing this skills (burning talons, bombard, etc.) in PvP! (casting it over and over)

All effects that completely remove control from the player (save the Break Free command) invoke CC immunity at expiration. You could be getting CCed before the current one expires, but normally that results in the first CC's immunity activating, cancelling the CC of the second ability unless it is something instant like knockback. Petrify can be morphed to Fossilize, which also applies a root when the disorient expires. Roots and Snares fall under their own category, as they only limit movement as opposed to removing control, and do not have a Root/Snare immunity that triggers at expiration. There are abilities that grant Root/Snare immunity however, and rolling will remove Roots. Snares can be removed prematurely by purging them or activating Root/Snare immunity.

So does if you're in your purifying ritual, do you have immunity to soft CC effects? As in you can't be Talons'd?

If you don't break free you don't get CC immunity, i.e. someone can use it again immediately after the effect ends. If you break free you get CC immunity and you cannot be hit by the ability again for a few seconds. I use this ability in PvP and nothing is wrong with it. Alternatively it could also be a problem with lag.

Petrify will not grant immunity if they break you out with damage, you need to break free immediately.
