Should the New Blocking Icon be on a Toggle?

Should the new giant floating shield that shows up when you block be on a toggle for those who don't want to see it for any reason?

While I've heard a handful of people say it's kinda useful for them, I know many more who have voiced their displeasure. For any number of reasons. From 'it's just plain ugly' to 'it's yet another nagging and intrusive UI element I have to worry about while tanking.'

There was a poll just like this on the PTS forum that got a 20/80 split between 'keep it' and 'get rid of it or toggle.' But now that it's gone live and there doesn't seem to be a toggle (and there were no responses from ZOS on the original poll), I feel it's only fitting to ask here in the general chat.

Personally, I'm rather disappointed that we were able to customize so many of the new UI elements and toggle them on or off, but this one remains on whether we like it or not.

PLEASE NOTE: This has been in the game for a LONG TIME in PvP! You were able to see this shield in front of enemy players LONG BEFORE this update, and so you could already tell when they were blocking! This only is applying it to your own character in PvE, where it's frankly a bit excessive.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm rather aware that I'm holing the right mouse button down. I really don't need a giant flashy shield in front of my character to know this. If you like it, that's cool. Keep it on. But I'd rather like to turn it off so I don't have to have yet another nagging, glowing piece of UI while I'm trying to hold everything together as a tank.

It should be removed from everything but Staves, as that gives it a ward-ish look, even then, a toggle.

It truly baffles me how truly little player opinion matters in almost every respect. Scores of people protested this even before it went live. Scores of people protested many things, Yet all they got for their Protests? Being told why they were wrong, why zos was right, and that they were just going to have to deal with it.

The only reason I voted "No" is because I think it's unnecessary. It's just a visual that has no real bearing on actual game play.

There are far more important things for ZOS to work on imo.

Please give us the option to take it off :(

I would like a toggle please. I don't need my hand held to let me know when I'm holding down my block button and I'm fairly sure NPC enemies don't need to "see" it :|

It needs to be a toggle, along with many other VFX (bow indictor, buffs/debuffs). People who want it can toggle it on, but the rest of us shouldn't be forced to have it.

Personally, I like the GIGANTIC SHIELD OF DOOM, but then I play Healers who don't block very much. I'm pretty sure if I ran Tanks instead, I'd go quite insane.

I'm not sure why Zenimax keep introducing new UI elements and then not giving us the choice about whether to have them or not. Something like this really should be a toggle. Just like the ability to be able to go around the world without seeing other people's @names. UI should be fully customisable without the use of addons.

I'm actually pretty sure that was in the game before this update. I seem to recall seeing that on my characters who used a bow, at least. Personally, I don't mind it that much since the bow is the the only weapon type where you can hold the heavy attack at the ready indefinitely and it's nice to have a heads-up for when it's fully charged. But there's nothing wrong with having an option to turn it off, I suppose. Either way, I've mostly just ignored it since I'm not heavy attacking with a bow most of the time. As a tank, however, I'm going to be seeing this silly floating shield icon for... oh, about 90% of my dungeoning time. That's gonna get old real quick...

When you think of a decent reason beyond "People should like it because I do!" for being against more player choice and customization, let me know.

And no, 'They're gonna waste resources!' is not even close to decent. This is a big development team who all have their own individual job and development focus. I'm doubtful that someone working on game balance and quest bugs is the same person who'd be coding a quick toggle function on a player effect. It's a cheap cop-out and I'm tired of hearing it from people who seem to think that everyone on a design team do the exact same job or even can do the exact same job as everyone else on the team. Even if the person potentially coding quests is the same person who'd be coding a combat effect, I find it hard to believe that it's difficult at all to add a toggle for a new UI object when this update has already added MANY toggle-able UI objects. It could probably be a day project for an intern, if that.
