NO.. this game shouldn't be yet another gear grinder MMO.

Agreed. I don't actually see any benefit to raising the level cap. All it does is require grinding. Done people do play for the grind, is rather play for the content, meaning it already takes a while to get max gear due to the obscene cost of cp160 crafting

The fact that a full set of crafted gear can easily require 1000-1500 materials (not including tempers). I'd rather the Gear Cap not change for a long time.

Before DB, I had V16, V13, V4, V3. Now I have 3 characters that are CP 160, 2 of which are wearing CP20 gear. And I have no where near the mats required to make them all decent gear (unless I go CP 150 or CP 140).

Personally, hours and hours of farming for materials != fun.

The current gear cap is unchanged for four DLCs now which equals a full year. It is well about time the gear cap will be raised. I expect to get one with the next adventurezone coming. We need quite some space to gather the new mats for it.

I do lots of random dungeons. It helps to get major XP that equals CP gain faster. When DB hits console I'll be right about or a little over cap(501). I was hoping they would raise the cap a bit, or come out with higher CP armor. I need it, because I'm still not very good. Lol

They better not mess with CP for at least 6 months! I'm making a new set of gold Champ 160 gear and it's very expensive. If they go and increase it to 180 in a few weeks I'll be livid!

I was VR5 before the switch and now have 74 CP, and I was in the 4th silver zone everything is CP100 and my DPS took a huge hit, I will have to play a new level 50 char to get enough CP for that char to be able to do well in that zone.

What I find silly is that in I play a level 1-50 char as soon as I hit 50 I'm going to be out leveled for all the quests in the silver and gold zones, if the cap was 500 I would be even more out leveled... and would be doing those quests "for fun" and no reward, not even gear.

I have a different but similar problem. I had three characters in the middle of Cadwell's Gold. All three jumped from around V10 to CP160. All their enemies jumped to CP160. However, I don't have anywhere near the materials to make CP160 (or even CP150) gear for them, so I'm worried they're going to be severely gimped if I take them out to do the content they were doing on Monday.

Hopefully, the CP I have will make up for gear deficiencies until I can get a bigger pile of endgame mats. Otherwise, they're going to take a little vacation.

Maybe they will follow the previous trend. CP170 gear will take 110 to 150 materials, and CP180 gear will take 1100 to 1500 materials per piece. And every 10th CP170/180 gear piece you decon will give you 1 material.

The only reason to raise gear cap in the game is to artificially create more content by making another gear grind.

Hopefully with any cap-rise they also simplify the CP10 to 160 mats and reduce the amounts required (so the new CP170-180 gear doesn't end up needing 2000 ingots)...

    Agreed.

I spent well over 1000+ Mats to create VR16 gear. Used enough Tempers to get it all to Gold.

If the Gear cap raises in the next three months... they really need to fix those crafting Mat costs for end-game gear.

Well, the only real rewards for doing Cadwells Silver and Gold is the costumes which are shared across your whole account, so if you do them once on one character you've basically already got everything there I to be gained from it. I think it's kind of nice that CP is shared between toons so the once you do the rather dull trudge through Silver and Gold you don't have to do it again on other characters.

You can just get right into end-game stuff as soon as you hit 50 and gear up. Which, again, shouldn't be too difficult if you've already got a CP160 character to craft up some baseline CP150 gear to get you going.

I guess, yeah, if you're highest level toon is CP75 or something, that'd kinda suck having all your Level 50 characters stuck in that mid-range, but once you get out of it, it's really nice.

I've got a toon in the 40s right now that I've been basically not playing for months because I've ben dreading having to do Gold and Silver on. Now I'm levelling him up excited to jump right into CP160 content.

Pro tip: You can almost be guaranteed that the CP cap will go up in the next update. They strongly hinted at it in an ESO Live. Why don't you just upgrade everything to purple and save those gold tempers for a few months?

I know there is a risk. That's why I'm proactively complaining ahead of time. Sort of preventative maintenance on my gear.

Seriously though, maybe they should consider allowing players to upgrade existing crafted gear. So if I have 160 CP gear and they up the cap to 180, maybe I only need to throw 20 more rubedite or whatever the material ends up being and one more gold temper in for the upgrade.

It is expensive to CRAFT v16 gear, but that is not the only way to acquire it. I have two DKs that just moved from V1 to CP160. I emptied my inbox of all the Leki, Fury, etc Rewards of the Worthy, and geared them up. They aren't optimal, but I tried them in a few zones and they did okay. If I get serious about playing them, I'll craft some gear. But no rush. In the meantime, I'm already sitting on around 2k of each of the top mats, gathered since that rank was introduced.

...so... is it intended that CP160 gear should require 10X the amount of ingots than CP150 gear??? I did a double-take when I saw the requirement for epaulets go from 13 ingots to 130 ingots. How is that fair? :(

It's intended, and fair since the requirement is the same for everyone. It's just a PITA if you don't habitually hoard mats.

However, you can get by with cp150 gear for everything except weapons if you're short on mats.

It was that way between V15 and V16 as well. It's not a new thing.
It's just to make it so crafting doesn't yield the highest rank of gear without any work.

Exactly... There have been multiple MMOs that have successfully not changed their max level ever and still produced plenty of interesting content for top level characters.

Increasing levels for the sake of increasing levels is only meaningful to people who enjoy grinding. To those of us who enjoy exploring the game and (gasp) taking the time to read/listen to the content, it creates an artificial barrier with absolutely 0 benefit.

Sure it is already coming in next DLC...Feel free to save this post for later so I can say I told you so :D

I have had one character at Vr16 for a few months now and have never felt the need to craft Vr16 gear. When the patch comes to consoles and my other 3 vet characters get 'promoted', I cannot foresee that I will feel the need to craft them top end gear either.

It is a personal choice to have or not have the top end gear. While it is worthwhile having top level weapons - which can be picked up in dungeons and chests and improved - there are only small advantage in having Vr16 armour over Vr15 armour.

I understand how some people would not be happy if they worked hard to farm/buy or build their 'ultimate' set and it gets 'outdated' but I think it is better that the game progresses and develops rather than becomes stale.
