In experience there is no other class that can compete with DK's as stamina tank. And the fact that they have so many options to keep their stamina up is one of many reasons.

Sure NB's have Siphon strikes, but you will have to drop block to use it or spam attacks to proc it and if you used stamina attack to do so then you would lose more than you gained, and if you used magicka then you would have to be a magicka NB tank or you would run out of stamina to fast.

Templars have repentance yes, but it will only work in trash mob situations or in bosses with adds. That is all they got.

Sorcs have Dark Deal that would be good if it wasn't for the fact that during its animation you are not blocking and you get no stamina unless the animation completes fully.

So the DK's Earthen Heart passives. Both "Battle Roar" and "Helping Hand" are just to good to give up, not to speak of their default mitigation increase, sure templars have that too but only for melee. And then DK's also have if you pop coagulating blood, really good healing received buffs, poping it would give you 12% and 8% buff for it. And using an Igneous shield before the dragon blood is a really good "oh ***" heal.

And due note that I'm talking about the classes own stuff, everyone has the Undaunted command passive and everyone can pick up shards but this is what they can do on their own.

    Dragonknight ofc

Their Draconic Power passives were made for tanking whereas their Earthen Heart abilities give them some great resource management

Dragon Knight - It can regenerate stamina while blocking by activating earthen heart defenses (magicka) as well as ultimates. Like Templar it has a lot of good defensive passives including the strongest block passive 10% vs. all, as well as the highest spell resistance passive. The magicka effects are long duration for the DK too.

Dragon knight, hands down. In fact, DK is probably the best tanking class all around, regardless of build.

They get a lot of passive bonuses to healing received, blocking, and resource recovery. They also have one of the best damage mitigation ultimates in the game: magma shell, which caps all incomign damage at 3% of your max health, so you could take a 100k hit from a boss and it'd only dish out 3% of your max health in damage while the ultimate is active.

The whole class was built around the idea of being tank focused, just as much as nightblades are damage focused and templars are healing focused.

DK's make the best Tanks.Their kit provides the best Tanking Tools. Not to say other classes cannot be Tanks, just that DK have the best skills and passives to support the role.

Templar tends to work better for a magicka tank, I think. Templars have very few stamina related abilities that improve tanking or resource management, but a lot more in the way of magicka utility and resource management.

Dk has some great synergisms between resources.

I built a Dk resource tank with 34000 health, 24000 magicka and 30000 stam using a Dunmer with TBS and having magicka and stam boons. All prismatic tri stat enchants.

I built is around the battle roar and helping hands resource returns.

Thoroughly enjoyed this and was almost unkillable.

Dk. And the best part is that you can swap to op stam dd just by changing gear. I use my stam dk as a tank without even changing cps.

Sorry @paulsimonps , but this is totally false. There is no real competition for a good NB saptank, with respect to resource management. That is how the class is designed, regardless of stamina or magicka preference. Where DKs really outshine other classes is their crowd control, but they don't have NBs bested in the resource department by a long shot.

A good NB tank can and will recover all stamina and magicka used for blocking and taunting without ever getting hit by an attack in between blocks. It is all about timing, and it is entirely possible to perma-sustain with light attacks alone. My siphoning attacks light attack return (not the proc chance) covers every block I make, regardless of whether it's one hard-hitting boss or 30+ adds.

Couple that with sap procs and there really is no comparison when it comes to resource management. I've run the numbers (accounting for the most recent post on tanking by Wrobel) and I have been doing this for two years. NB tanks are highly undervalued. The only thing they lack is CC, and good tanks know how to get around that.

I did not choose a stam tank but It looks like I answered the question.
Proxy det batswarm and sap tanks can wreck.
I'm guessing OP saw some cool saptank builds and decided on one!

    Cheers!
