Why does the lower level gear look better than the higher level?

Except the "progression" honestly looks ridiculous on the higher quality gear. There are so many unneeded additions that would make movement ridiculous or cumbersome, especially on medium armor. There's no need for these giant saddle bags. At least with the lower level gear appearances, you can have these less cumbersome and ridiculous appearances.

This, so much. An example is breton, I love the dirty low fantasy look of the level 30 version, but once you get to 40+ it looks way worse.
Also, BiS gear that looks like *** needs to be able to....not look like ***. Please give us more options to change how gear is showed on our chars.

Be careful what you wish for. Transmuting gear is one of the most expensive items in any CashShop-mmo. And the chances Zenimax will give that out for free is minimal.

I agree. A Transmutation stone is a) a cop out, and b) a terrible idea.

It ideally should be done and integrated into crafting. Just like we've suggested (and shown with pictorial examples) in previous replied in this thread. The answer really is very simple, let's just hope the developers understand how much this would add to their game.

To be honest, I'd pay for it. With CP points, I now only need one set of V16 gear. I would so pay for the ability to transmute my armor into other looks.

I don't think there's anything wrong with ZOS having a cash shop feature; more revenue means better and new employees, current ones are paid better and made happy, and less outsourcing for customer service things. Seriously, remember, they need to make a living too; this isn't a hobby for them. It's a job.

Yes, it's a matter of taste and choice, but my suggestion means EVERYONE has a choice on how they want to look.

A lot of my characters wear medium Redguard low level - because it looks nice and fits to an agile adventurer very well. It looks more like cloth than a hard medium armor set. It can be dyed in a variety of ways without to look awkward as well. When I will have to use higher level gear, that iconic hat piece will be gone and replaced by something what looks more like a bridle for horses than a helmet for humanoids. The whole charm of this simple set will be gone and I will have to choose something else instead. The more fancy stuff is added, the less I like it.

This is very important to me as well.

I play mmos in part to make my characters, and think about the people they are. Dressing them accordingly is a big part of that. The gradual progression in many games to the 'Enormo-Pauldron' style of 1337ness always frustrates me. Everyone looks ridiculous and the same. My characters aren't usually the special-snowflake hero-type either, so wearing very noticeable (and let's face it, impractical) armour doesn't fit their personalities either. Lower level gear always looks much better to me.

I love to feel I've made my own choices about what my characters wear. The dye system is great but I'd love to see wardrobe/appearance/vanity tabs, with individual armour slots so we can mix and match pieces and customise our people even more. Several other mmos do this very successfully.

I understand money-making is an issue, so maybe buying extra wardrobe tabs would cost Crowns, but I hope we'd get the first one for free.

Incidentally, I've come back to the game recently and was quite excited about the costumes, but finding out they were one piece outfits disappointed me, and I've not bought any as a result.

P.S. I'm not keen on transmog systems. They're always a drag to use - you have to run around, apply stones, apply styles or whatever. Much prefer wardrobe slots - simple and easy to use/change.

^ This. The low level Redguard medium gear was the best, I was so disappointed when I out-levelled it and it all of a sudden got ridiculously fancy with a silly looking helmet. I look like I'm headed to a parade .

Re A wardrobe/appearance tab system

This solution also means crafters still get credit for the time and effort they've put in to find motifs and work on their skills. They then also sell their items via the Guild Traders to people who want things purely for cosmetic purposes. I've done this in other games too. It can also add value to the random loot you pick up.

I also think ZOS would make more money selling costumes as 'sets' than single piece outfits.

Perhaps the hats are a glimpse of things to come?

(at risk of being a little rude - see SWTOR and LotRO for examples. Although both have their issues for other reasons - the systems themselves work well in game)

I still think a transmutation stone mechanic adds more versatility to the crafting. In your example as shown in the picture (which is awesome, by the way ), the crafter only has the option to craft the same piece of gear, but of lower level appearance. The option nobody here mentioned (to my surprise) is the ability to change the style of dropped sets.

I usually use the combination of crafted and dropped sets and always have the problem with being forced to use sets that look bad combined with my crafted gear, or they just look bad in general. For example, I would like to try out some IC Telvar gear, but I just don't like the look of any Alliance style.

With the Transmutation stone system though, I could make an item of the style I like and combine it with the dropped set piece that I like, and get the result of having both the best set bonuses and the best appearance (it's all a matter of preference of course).

I do hope that, if implemented, it does not get locked behind a paywall, though. I understand that ZOS has to make money, but a poor *** that I am, I would appreciate if they could have both options available - crown store purchase and an in-game drop item (with a low drop rate, for example). They have the same system with the motifs and it works - you can either farm them or buy them if you're lazy.

i would love eso to introduce a custom costume feature for example u like the lvl 1-16 wood elf look but cant wear it cus ya c160 well simply craft the a lvl 1 wood elf chest apply to a "chest appearance slot" and boom that would over right the equipped chest peice appearance and display the wood elf chest piece


swtor introduced this feature about a year ago and for the most part it was a huge success

A token that would allow to combine appearance from one item and stats from another would be great. I'd definitely buy some of those.
