My main is faster than the fastest mount!

So I was galloping with someone that had identical mount speed (maxed) to me and decided to compare my sprinting to it. I actually ran a very slight bit faster! Even if I am really fast shouldn't a mount outspeed me always?

Maybe he hit a particle of dust, or a millimetre increase in floor height. That causes my mount to slow down as if he's approaching the edge of a cliff.

You would have been lighter than him plus horse, so sprinting could be faster?

Well if mounts follow TESV: Skyrim logic then sure sprinting should be faster but it's not just Skyrim horses here. The only way a mount can outspeed me right now is Rapid Maneuver because my main is so close to the sprint speed cap he doesn't get as big a boost from Major Expedition.

Horses because of the Speed Patch a while ago have some real inconsistent speeds now. Sometimes I can get them to max (I have a speed display on my minimap), and sometimes I can't. Sometimes I get them to max speed, but it slows down over time.

Also, Lag on their end can cause their horse to run slower (or their character too).

Yeah but we were at equal speeds before I dismounted. Also I'm pretty sure we were at max stride.

We were in Orsinium, on level ground.

Orsinium is literally the worst place in game for mounts. Every other step I get slowed down, usually for no conceivable reason

Of course they weren't aware lol but I saw we had equal mount speed so I decided to footrace to compare. If we were both going slower than we should've then ok but it didn't feel like we were...

You should not be faster if you both put the same effort in increasing your speed (armour sets, mundus stone, cp passive) and his horse doesn't bug out.

Yeah hence the reason I'll test this further later to see if it wasn't Orsinium being a field of molasses to us.

My Imperial Horse from pre launch is faster then my alts stripped senche . Both of course are linked speed and stamina wise .

Well-Fitted only reduces the cost. It has no influence on the speed. I achieve my current speed with all Medium Armor, The Steed, and I'm an Orc. 2 of my Armor pieces have Divines Trait. All of my Armor is Gold so I get +15% to The Steed's Movement Speed effect.

Well I don't know if you'd see benefit from all 7 having Divines. Mine is pretty close to the speed cap so he doesn't even get that big a boost from Major Expedition.

Well you're spec'd to be the fastest mer on Tamriel, IMO it's right for you to be faster than a mount. After all you're directly draining your resources while a mounted player is always up to fight, so you're taking your risks.
Plus, rapid manuver makes mounts faster than you, so again, I think overall it's ok.

Yeah, I don't run vampire either. I just use the set that lets you sneak at full speed. It's so fun.

Was tempted a few times though, so I could run a more useful armor set.
