Is ESO Launcher Safe?

kifyiib14a_ESO
I'd like to use it but I can't find anything specifically saying that it's accepted or not. I really want to get rid of the fog in the game because it feels so unrealistic, but it isn't worth getting banned over. I read that SweetFx is officially accepted by ZOS, but I can't find anything from them saying if ESOLauncher is okay. I see a lot of people recommending it, and never read anything about someone getting banned after using it, but I thought I should ask before using it.

As far as I know it stopped working.

You won't get banned for using it if it works though. I used it for a while. Until it stopped working.

I've always wanted to use it, but the author aggressively refuses to release the source code. Until he does, I won't be using it.

I had briefly installed it yesterday and it does work at least so far as removing the fog. I also noticed higher FPS with it installed at default settings somehow. I don't know how that's possible.

I used it for awhile and didn't notice anything untoward. I quit using it after Orsinium however because Wrothgar looked really bad with the fog removed.

Yeah I wish ZOS would give us a fog distance slider. I realize that there's a huge range of hardware out there that people are running the game on but I also am a firm believer in options options options.

I just wish ZOS would listen to more feedback than the angry, screaming horde...

Anyway, here's a suggestion regarding that:

    Here's a quick one.

When the weather is bad we should see the fog that we see now and possibly even MORE fog. When the weather is good, we should see much less fog, possibly even no fog. The maximum amount of fog relief be attached to a slider in the graphics menu and the amount of fog relief could be based on the percentage of that slider.

Allow those of us who are able to support no fog, experience no fog.

I have more Fog/No Fog screenshots here:

Please note, I have seen NO noticeable FPS drop since installing SweetFX.

I decided to take some comparison shots of inside a dungeon:

I assume it's because you're not rendering all that fog @kifyiib14a_ESO

Yeah I had seen your post about the contextual fog and I agree. Bad weather, the fog should roll in, mornings and cloudy night would be cool too. But it should never be like noon, beating sun, especially in the more desert areas, where the fog is so thick you can hardly see. :|

Well my concern was just if ZOS didn't want us removing fog or something. A lot of MMOs will ban people if they do something like that. Given that ZOS is okay with SweetFX I don't see why they wouldn't be okay with ESOLauncher, but I wanted to ask anyway.

Oh. I never thought about that. Hmm,..I cant see why they would get mad about not wanting fog.But ya never know.

Most games have kind of a fog in the distance to make less rendered textures less visible.

I found it and installed and it took away the fog. But the view distance is blurry now.

Turn off the depth of field in ESO @Gothlander . It's a regular toggle I think.

Thanks. So is this all I do? ESO Launcher doesn't add any extra settings? Is all I have to do now is launch the game using the launcher64?

Fog also makes game more realistic/immersive.

I agree @Gothlander ... sometimes. That's why I personally want contextual fog. Sometimes fog is nice, sometimes it makes sense. Then there are times it's a bright Sunny midday and there should be no reason there's fog around.

Oh. I never thought about that. Hmm,..I cant see why they would get mad about not wanting fog.But ya never know.

The only possible reason would be in PvP, players without the Fog could see other players from farther away. I don't think that would be the case in this game as the View Distance has more of an impact on that.

Going back to those screenshots without the Fog. Yes, it looks good, but it does not look as real to me for some reason. I know we don't have fog like this normally in our world, but we do have haze, dust or even pollution. As an example, one day I was at the Grand Canyon seeing it for the first time in person. It was a super clear day, and I could see all the way across the canyon, and down some tributary canyons. Probably had a view distance of 10 or 15 miles. All the details just popped. It did not look real to me even though I was standing at the edge and looking at it.

I guess the whole fog thing is personal preference. Which would make it nice if there was a slider.

I agree that there's a reason and in some places removing it makes the game look bad, but it is not realistic or immersive. Over great distances there is some atmosphere visible, yes, but not like staring across 3 acres. I live in a very flat area and can see incredibly far unless there is real fog happening.
