Patch 2.4.0 adds map markers for Gilzir, Liezl, and Sugar-Claws, the Boatswains who take you from the starter islands to the first alliance cities and back. This is very useful, but there are many more transport NPCs and activators that need map markers:
  • Zihlijdel at the docks in Wayrest
  • Captain Carlier at Wayfarer's Wharf in Sentinel
  • Muz-Muz in Alten Corimont and Windhelm
  • Scout Linimondil in Haven (she already has a marker in Skywatch, but she's labelled there as a Stablemaster, not a Boatswain)
  • The Boat to Hew's Bane in Wayrest/Woodhearth/Windhelm
  • The Boat to Wayrest/Woodheath/Windhelm in Abah's Landing
  • The Boat to the Gold Coast in Daggerfall/Vulkhel Guard/Davon's Watch
  • The Boat to Daggerfall/Vulkhel Guard/Davon's Watch in Anvil

It also appears that you can now use ships in the harbours of the starter cities to travel to the other starter cities (presumably you need to have reached Level 50 for this), and since this was implemented without notice, this would be a very useful set of additional icons to add:
    • The unnamed eastern ship at Davon's Watch (to Daggerfall)
    • The northern ship at Davon's Watch, "The Rusty Argonian Blade" (to Vulkhel Guard)
    • The small boat at the southwestern end of Vulkhel Guard docks (to Davon's Watch)
    • "The Interim Suitor" (later "The Prowler") at Vulkhel Guard (to Daggerfall)
      • Although given the importance of The Prowler to the storyline, it may be better if this travel function was moved to one of the nearby small boats instead.
    • The southern ship at Daggerfall Harbor, "The Lydia" (to Vulkhel Guard)
    • The northern ship at Daggerfall Harbor, "The Hotspur" (to Davon's Watch)

I don't even use wayshrines half the time, I just pay the 146g to go somewhere, can't imagine running to docks to move from city to city, but hey, if it makes your life better, you got my vote.

It is there on live from beta. I use it to go to Cadwell Gold areas on characters which have not yet finished Silver.

It's something that people who like to roleplay a bit, or those who want immersion, enjoy to have in the game - just having options is good for everyone :)

Whether you use it or not is irrelevant; there's a transportation service available there which is not marked on the map, so unless you're going to go stand right next to the ship wheel, you'll never know that the service exists. Same goes for all the other ones in the first list.

Yep - as well as showing a quest marker to the appropriate boat when you have a quest active, I think it would be good to have a map marker on map and compass bar (possibly togglable for compass bar) to show transport services - so if you are in a town with transport elsewhere, you can easily see where the transport hub is located. So if you bring your map up in Vukhels Guard you can hover over the docks marker to see which transport services are available, so you can see something like "Ships to Haven, Abah's Landing, Anvil, Davon's Watch, Daggerfall" (and similar for Craglorn and Wrothgar carts).

Oh good point there, they should be on the list as well.
    • The Cart to Craglorn in Wayrest/Elden Root/Mournhold
    • The Cart to Wrothgar in Daggerfall/Vulkhel Guard/Davon's Watch
    • The Cart to Daggerfall/Vulkhel Guard/Davon's Watch in Orsinium (haven't actually checked to see if they added a marker with this already or not)
