I play with friends/guildmates, there is no way I would join a PUG and put myself through the torture of being told I'm not up to par by some number-cruncher. With my friends/guildmates though, we go on teamspeak and have a laugh and a fun time even if we aren't the best players in Tamriel. It's a game, and having fun is more important to me.

I have a regular friend and as a duo we use group finder to run the undaunted dailies (except vWGT, vCoA and vICP).

Most of the time we manage to get the run completed with other experienced players and other times we manage to help some less experienced players through. Every now and then we have to leave a group due to poor team quality but not before we have suffered a few deaths and given it a try. I won't kick players out before we start based on their level, I'd rather see what they can do first.

Considering we currently try and do this for 3 vet characters each, sometimes doing 6 dungeon runs a day, we have a pretty low failure rate.

Don't let these forums scare you. Most pugs I've been in are just happy if you know the fights and can stay alive. Anything else is a plus. People do a lot of complaining, hell I do a lot of complaining. Sometimes I make stuff up to complain about. But the pug scene isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

Heck in the week of cake I leveled 2 characters from about 10-50 doing nothing but random dungeons. If the pug dungeons were half as bad as people say that would be impossible. There are lots of fun entertaining people out there just looking for other fun people to play with. Just remember you play the game to have fun so if the group isn't fun, shrug it off and try again. No worries.

I PUG too when I'm bored and feel like going on an adventure, but if I want to get stuff done then PUGing isn't the way to go for me. Just sucks getting a core group in this game. I have not experienced something like this in a video game in the past, grouping up was easy with past video games. This game makes it insanely difficult to get your own group you play on a regular basis. I don't know what it is.

The most important thing is, tell people right up front. First time here. If there is something I need to know or I mess up tell me. I was doing this even after I'd been in dungeons several times because, well I'm a little slow sometimes. Does two things. Let's the people who are willing to help know you are willing to listen. And let's the dumbos who don't care drop the group and move on, so you can get a better replacement.

If you have knowledge of a couple dungeons then you know what it takes to get through a dungeon and that is what matters. Which white circle to stand in or which snake to stand close to is all the easy stuff that can be explained in 30 seconds.

For me I think it is the 5 guild system. Instead of finding a cool core group of people, I am spammed with messages from lots of guilds, so I end up shutting them all off and doing whatever.

Wish I had people in my guilds hitting me up like that. I get people not in the same guilds as me hitting me up to do stuff more. Guilds aren't useful unless you're trading or pvping. Just personal experience.

Maybe it's my lack of social skills. I don't like to socialize and talk about my life stories and what I did today. I jump on the game to play not talk about other stuff which people seem to do in guild chats.

I understand it can be a massive undertaking though, for people experienced with a dungeon to take a noob through - it can turn what should be a short dungeon run into horrendous experience for all involved, with recriminations and insults - which doesn't help anyone.

Most of us learnt them with friends/guildies, that way you can be fairly sure you won't end up with a group that just wants fast completion and will have issues with someone lagging behind.

If you're PC NA, I can run with you (at least until DB hits, I might take a break then) ;)

Btw I run with both. If I care for completion I'll go with friends/guildies. If I'm bored I'll pug, even if it's ICP/WGT, but lately pugging has been becoming increasingly more frustrating. Idc for the numbers but people using resto heavy or/and impulse as their main single target dps, all the while standing in red and refusing to listen make me die a little inside :(

I love the "if you can be bothered" as a dismissive statement - looking at someone else doing it is NOT the same as trying it yourself, as anyone knows - all the things I could do if looking at youtube vids was all it took...

Most videos on youtube go too quickly to give you a lot of info on dungeon mechanics. By the time you watch enough to learn anything you could have run the dungeon a few times and learned them yourself.

Don't give up on group finder. My only completion of (non vet) WGT was when I queued up solo (vet 2) into group finder and got a couple of guys who explained all of the mechanics as we went.

Yes there are a lot of people who don't want to run with lower level characters but there are far more people out there who will. If you can, find at least one person to group up with before going into group finder, that will usually leave one of you group leader and prevent anyone else from booting you. It also speeds up group finder, especially if the two of you do different roles.

There are lots of fun entertaining people out there just looking for other fun people to play with. Just remember you play the game to have fun so if the group isn't fun, shrug it off and try again. No worries.

How are people supposed to get to know the fights though? I know the fights in a couple of dungeons, I don't know the fights in others. How am I supposed to bridge my gap in knowledge?

Same way even the pros learned the fights ..practice... with friends
Sometimes the learning experience is a slog and unproductive.
But god damn I have fun with those I am with.
Guilds, randoms, pugs makes no differnce to me.
