Formal Apology to the Duel

You were right. I was wrong. I will be succinct.

My name is Krist, and I was a griefer. I hated duelers in IC and Cyro. I would break them up repeatedly whenever I encountered them. What I didn't realize is... I was the d***. I griefed for the reason most people hate things: ignorance. The best treatment for ignorance is always experience.

So I ran into a yellow enemy in IC yesterday night, he hit me once, I hit him once, and then we stared at each other for a sec. We dueled repeatedly for about 45 minutes. It was some of the most fun I have had in this game, and I mean by a long shot.

So my hat is off in apologies to anyone I ever offended with my ignorant behavior. Dueling is a s***ton of fun. And it really should be part of the game in some fashion. My only regret is that I could not realize it without experiencing it. However, I think I'll be more open to different types of gameplay from here on out. So that's a win.

Seriously, holy **** was it entertaining. Even to watch others duel. But don't worry, I'm getting my deserved grief from others who break up duels. Goes around...comes around.

Sincerely,
FortheloveofKrist

Attacking enemy players in a PvP zone isn't "griefing", you were playing the game as intended. Dueling is fun but if players get attacked in the middle of one, it's their own fault for not securing a better spot or being more vigilant.

I agree @dimensional , and I hold nothing against those who attack duelers either. Especially if it's out in the open. But I see both sides now. It's pretty cool when everyone stops the incessant lemming-like zerg-on-zerg action in IC and just watches people duel. It's like watching the players take over the game and determine for themselves how it will be played.

Have you never dueled in an MMO before? It's not that big of a deal, to be honest... this has happened in this genre since as long as it's been around. I can see the appeal of it but I think you're making it sound way more subversive and cool than it actually is.

1*1 fights are the best and feel the most rewarding. Kudos to you for the gesture, I think it's really cool! And yeah, can't wait for the dueling house/arena to be officially implemented in game :)
Skye Cloude - Sorc DPS, Master Crafter. Main, the bestest
Lae Lenne - Templar Healer Trial grade.
Dromede - Stamina Nightblade, she's a newb and doesn't know what she's doing
V'oghatta - Stamplar pretending to be a tank
Ulville Thonvella - aspiring Fire Mage, be careful around her fire sticks!
Dromedaris - lost and not found. Named after a shoe, what else can you expect from her? A proper tank in her wildest dreams
Swims-Naked - too pretty to grind, too silly to quest.
Sun Flair - Dunmer Templar that can't spell for life. To bad she's too broke to afford a name change... Well, at least she's pretty...

Ya EQ1 had dualing, actually you could dual in any PvE zone, all you had to do was accept the dual offer from the other player and off you went. So it was kinda cool, a crowd of PvEers standing around watching 2 players go at it lol, wasn't really my thing at the time but if your into it, it would be fun.

When I used to play LOTRO, I would watch the duel groups. It was really fun and a great way to learn the character mechanics. Even if you didn't join, you could root for your favorite dueler.

And with the rotten tomato gag gift from their Christmas Event, it was SUPER fun to just have a good laugh.

Well I'm happy that you have enjoyed a duel ^^

I also hope that you have gained a bit sympathy for other playstyles, because people have their reasons to play in certain ways.. If you only stop griefing duellers because you've begun enjoying it, then you are as good of a person now as you were when you did grief them.

If I remember there was also a pvper arena in EQ1 but I cant for the life of me remember the zone, it was a lot of fun when most people had no idea about PvPer, lol there was no class balance then, wizards would just one shot you :)

Well it's nice to admit a former mismanagement or exploit, but in this case, I think you were totally inside the morally acceptable boundaries.

Once I had an encounter for like 10 minutes in IC: stamplar vs magplar (myself) I won all 3 times but barely... and I always bowed before my fallen partner, because he was using techniques I've never heard of that time.

This game cries out for a duel zone, and a dueling system. I don't know, it can be lore-friendly as well, eg. a cruel Daedric prince, who enjoys watching fighting mortals with each other, like Malacath, could provide a room in his pocket realm in Oblivion for the duels. Or Trinimac should be the one? Anyway; this could be very much interesting for both roleplayers and pvpers, I can't wait to see something like pure 1v1.

If the game doesn't have the option to 'safely duel one person', it's because it's meant to happen yet.
They want to duel? let them. But they need to know they are not "safely doing so".

    keep killing, bro. iz fun.
duels are fun, too, don't get me wrong, but if they think they are in a safe spot, it's your duty as a player to remind them they are not. and also reinforce their demands on Zenimax to complete their freakin' game.

And you, Krist, are a prime example of why Battlegrounds/Arenas are a requested feature :)

It isn't easy to know what real 1v1 duels are like and balanced small scale (2v2, 3v3) until you participate in it. There is so much to the combat, and when players setup these mini-events you have a ton of fun.

I duel and I've messed up duels.

When I mess up duels a zerg of 15 or so players unleash hell upon me. I know they get a kick outta it too.

I love dueling. You get to see your build in all it's functionality. Early, mid, and late game.

Some builds are only viable in dueling.

a duel option would be fun if no AP or XP is associated with such activity. Illegally farming xp and AP is a main concern with this type of "on demand" pvp. Same goes with arenas...having "on demand" access to AP and XP through PvP is a vastly more efficient way compared to Cyrodiil. Cyrodiil would be empty not because its not fun..but because it would prove less efficient in gaining AP/XP.

YOU are NOT Krist, I AM.

I have been for over two decades. :/

NO ONE knew the name ... some pronounced it Christ (totally ridiculous) yet I stuck with it, made it a household name (maybe I am exaggerating that part) and am clearly Krist with nothing after or before my name (<---see avatar that way).

Now no one can believe your griefing apology because *counts* 14 words into your apology you are already lying! You are "For The Love of Krist", probably a fan or something....I no doubt have them...though honestly I do nothing spectacular but I must assume .......

Anyway, I await the awkward apology for abusing my name that surely must come. You may do things out of love for me, but be sure they are good and noble, and you do not say you are me.

On a serious note, since we settled who is Krist and who is For The Love of Krist, yes, you were wrong. Initially I was going to give you a pass because sometimes you do not know, you walk up on someone fighting and you help your side. However, you clearly state that you "hated duelers" and were doing it just to grief them. Your only change of heart is because YOU now duel and are being griefed.

You are correct, what comes around goes around, but my question would have to be, why were you purposefully griefing people that were doing nothing to you? I don't get that mentality at all. What makes that "fun"? I am seriously asking, because there are people that do this on a daily basis to others (at this point I must confess there are also victims begging to be victims but that is another question). You need to ask yourself, more appropriately, why harming other people, even if it was just their play time, made you feel good. I feel like crud when I accidentally do these things.

Anyway, deeper than I meant the post to be, and not trying to knock you over the head, just some serious questions that come off as robotic in writing.

Frustration more than anything. It was mostly when I would see there was nobody fighting in IC, but there was a group dueling. I'm an archer / sneaky NB, so I couldn't really participate. Plus, I'm not that good. But what pushed the frustration to the point of griefing was when players in my own faction would jump up and down right near me so their opponent could kill me, so they could go back to their duel. And that would happen before I ever engaged or even thought to engage. So that type of attitude, especially from my own faction, started the griefing. Not saying it's right, but you asked why. I think that's the best answer I can think of. It also doesn't help when you have a teenager in area chat taunting with "You suck bro, Git gud" while helping their dueling partner kill me. After a couple of those, I just started looking to kill people who were dueling.
