The Banker or The Merchant... Only 1.. Go!

I have to go with neither, too. Use your crowns for something really useful.

To you it may not be, to me it (the banker) is. And I get crowns for free (well, a subscription fee so not really, but still). It's my money, and I find this product worth it. And to me, it is.

I'll admit it, I bought both.

    First, the justification:
I have three people I play with regularly, my friend, my wife, and my brother. Since most of them only play when they are playing with me, by buying the assistants for just my account, 4 people total can use them. That made it worth it to me. Plus, I'm not strapped for money, so I could afford it. :)

Before purchasing them, I would have said the banker is far more useful, since (as others have said) there are merchants everywhere. But since I got them, I've actually found that my play partners and I have been using the merchant more, to quickly liquidate all the weapon/armor drops that we get. It's nice, because you can just pick up everything, and turn it into gold when your inventory starts to fill. Most stuff that I'd want to dump in my bank is crafting mats that stack anyway.

It's nice having both, but if I could only have one, I think I might actually pick the merchant, now that I've used them.

As for the limited functions of each, I'll say this:

Expecting the merchant to repair gear is ridiculous. ZOS would never do that, since they sell repair kits in the crown store.

I do feel that the merchant should actually SELL items. Basic potions and soul gems, at least. Even if they were more expensive than merchants in towns.

The banker should let you access your guild bank, but NOT the guild store. That would make them more useful, without completely replacing the normal bankers in town.

Both should be accessible in Cyrodiil. Obviously you'd need to prevent the ability to deposit TV stones on the fly in IC, but I don't see the need for the restriction otherwise.

I bought the banker and have used it a lot more than I thought I would. of course I would prefer it have all the functionality of in-town bankers, but it's still pretty great the way it is.

    Neither.

The few times I have needed a banker because getting back to town was not conducive to the group, I just emailed the stuff to a group member and had them bounce it back. Most of the people I group with on a regular basis have an addon that does this automatically with the right word in the subject line.

Vendors are all over the place, so no need for that.

The banker is good if you end up with a ton of crafting materials that you want to keep, but that's really about it. You can't sell to guilds or view your guild store/banks from the banker.

Merchants are not that hard to find to sell off you random junk so having one with you isn't that amazing. Plus the as most people have already commented on the fact that the merchant does not repair gear.

So in short the Banker and the Merchant are both limited versions of what you'd find in any town.

My god chill out. You were the most recent comment, I'm not 'singling you out' for malicious reasons. Did I say anything negative towards you in any way? Nope. I merely said you may not consider it worth it (which you yourself said) whereas I do. I too am answering the OP's question. And welcome to a forum, where ANYONE can reply to anyone who is here. So get that stick out of your a@@ and relax, read what I said again and you'll realise I'm doing exactly what you are- giving opinion to the OP, using your comment as something to base mine off. You don't like it, I do.. did I mention that I don't appreciate the concerns of people who disagree? No. No I did not.

    Banker. Hands down.

Forget your potions in a dungeon? Banker
Forget your other gear set? Banker
    Inventory full? Banker
Bunch of stuff to sell? Put it in the bank until you hit a town (which you still need to go to anyways for guild bank/store and repairs)

    Merchant:
Can sell your junk to it.

Since I bought both the Banker and the Merchant I have noticed a real increase in the amount of time I have been able to actually play, versus the amount of time I spend traveling to and from towns for the purpose of banking/selling.

I station my characters at crafting stations now, not banks. One of the most annoying features of keeping your toons in banks for rapid access to materials is the wretched load time for everybody else's character skins and their damn pets.
With my characters at crafting stations in Cadwells silver and gold zones there is none of that. It's not a huge time thing but it just annoys the heck out of me.

I do 12 tier 10 writs a day on 4 characters, with two others capable of doing tier 9 if I so choose, getting those 12 writs done used to take 90 minutes to 2 hours, now it's closer to 1 hour. Well worth the cost of the banker to me at the very least. You could call the merchant a luxury, but I do sell about 2k gold per day to her in food and drink alone from my toon stationed at a crafting station that also has a cooking fire. No trip to town needed.

I actually bought the banker. It helps a lot when out farming materials! Especially with deconstructing. Saves me a few trips. And it lets me take gold out everyday so my alts can pay for their horse upgrades.

It is not useless. It serves it's purpose!

Hah yes. My alts that are currently just mules (will be future characters) are now parked at the stable rather than the bank. I can still use them as mules with the banker, but now I actually DO train for mount riding every day since I'm not to lazy to run to the stable and back to the bank

Man, what really I don't get is why the anti-banker-merc crowd feels the need to be so hostile to those who support it.

Quote them in your positive banker post and they lash back.
Maximizing play time vs overhead time is LAZY to them and we'll they just aren't as lazy.
Spend my money on something I find useful and now well worth it and suddenly I am messing things up for others by promoting development strategies they don't like.

Well heck, from now on, I will consider "and it might tick off that crowd" as a purchase perk.

I was gonna only take the banker but I found SOME convenience in having the merchant too.

Merchants are more widespread than bankers, therefore having a portable banker provides overall more convenience.

Hard choice...I bought both of them and find them handy as a pair, but probably because you could more easily find a Merchant, I guess buy the Banker...though be aware you more often find a need to just sell rubbish to empty your bags, and less often need to add items to a bank, making the Merchant more useful in a bind.

I am hoping they add the normal functions to the Merchant (repair) and Banker (access to Guild Bank and Guild Store), as this would make them fully functional and useful in all situations.

BUY THEM BOTH!!! Then you can help fund ZOS for us so they has more money, and we get better/more content!

As for myself, I have and will buy neither unless the price drops or they go on special, they are just not worth it.

I went with the Banker since all people in your party can access them now.
I feel that Banker is more useful.

Besides with the new crafting bag(sub only, unless they change it) the banker will be even more useful because now you can actually store the items you want on him, besides the Banker is Account Wide and so is the Bank which means you can access the bank from any character you play.
So there is no need to go to the city in order to access the Bank.
If I die tomorrow I do not want to think of the game I could of played today, therefor I will play whatever I want today while securing a future to play in as well.

Definitely a banker! What's the point with the merchant? It doesnt repair our gear and you can bump into 10 walking from one end of a quest zone to the other. Last part may be a slight exaggeration. Both are too *** to go to Cyrodil but I never find much to loot there anyway.

    Can't use a *** colloquialism on here :( what's that about? haha

Far from useless. The crafting bag will take one facet of functionality away from it. But it's still very useful for people with a lot of alts, a lot of gear sets. Or like me, where each character has a different combination of crafts. One has provisioning, so whenever I'm on him I'll make a bunch of food for all sorts of levels my alts are at; or will be at soon, and pop em in the bank. Another has clothing, do the same, another blacksmithing. You get the picture.
With a bit of forward thinking you can have everything you'll ever need in the bank for upcoming alts.

Also, gold- some of my chars are rich, some are poor. These days I just put the vast majority of each char's gold into the bank so I can easily access it from all alts. Makes it easy when realising this char can't afford to buy something, so relogging isn't something I ever have to do, and with the loading screens and amount of time I get locked into the 'eternal loading screens' when switching characters (happens probably about 25% of the time... Way way way too high) I'm very happy now
