Console text chat ?

Is it just an oversight that console text chat is simply not In the DLC first look ? Seems like a pretty important system to forget...

It isn't forgotten. It will come in a future DLC patch.

The community harped them for too long for them to possibly forget lol

I was expecting it with DB TBH. I would be very upset if its not there, we have been waiting far too long for it already.

Pretty sure Zenimax said later this year, at least.

Na they never actually said when just that it would be this year. I personally just didn't think it would be nearer to the end of the year : (

It feels really weird begging for a simple text chat in a MMORPG. I've always took it for granted, but now as a console player lacking it, I realize how important and necessary it is over and above voice chat.

It's a basic feature and is much needed.

I think it's a fair question because names are being added however, I would expect this as a incremental patch because it's platform specific and not DLC wide. Maybe DB with the names ....seems likely but I'd think it will be 4th quarter only because QoL stuff like this wasn't mentioned with the recent announcement and it's a pretty big topic

Problem is.... They don't really do incremental patches except if it's a game breaking thing on consoles. SO if it's not In DB, it's In the next DLC or later...

Huh.....they just did two since TG release for console....

And those 2 patches were for game breaking fixes... À main story quest not working and unable to use Soul gems... That's exactly what I was saying....

Can understand why people want text chat, but seeing it in other games, what I see regularly are 'keyboard warriors' who like to inflame and agitate from behind a keyboard. Drama, drama, drama, and an immaturity that brings down the game. I hope this will not be the case with ESO. In another game, I just switched it off to ignore the constant negative banter. I hope text chat comes with some strict rules like here on the forums.

Text chat always has a turn on/off feature and most people are not comfortable speaking to strangers online and would prefer to write/are not native English speaker...

Also voice chat is VERY limiting, no zone chat, no trade chat, and try using voice chat if more than 3-4 people.... It's chaos...

From my point of view there are SEVERAL bad sides to voice chat and only a few good sides.

I've only ever seen it work in other games, and not favourably. So this does sound a bit better

Voice chat is no different and in many instances even worse. Instead of annoying text you get it in your ears

Obviously PC uses text chat lol. Also maybe you haven't played a lot of MMOs and ESO is a very bad example of a social MMO, but how would you go about voice chatting with 200-300 people lol ?

i pesonally think we NEED console text chat just to explain to those in goup/dungeons how and what to do. yes all ps4's come with a headset but 90% ppl dont use them, are shy to talk, or not even in the damn goup voice chat so they can hear us. The chat would help alot and yes there will be keyboard warriors but you can easily ignore them or block them, i heared chat was coming out with DB DLC but hey knowing ZOS no1 will ever know wen its officialy coming

Obviously you have misunderstood the intention and question. I was not asking if PC uses text, that is obvious. I was asking if YOU were on PC? Obviously I get that you are now. I am on consle so I haven't experienced text chat in ESO. Yes I have played MMO's thankyou, and I do not feel ESO is a bad example. I was comparing with other MMO's where I feel it adds a more toxic environment.

Yes text has its' uses, but generally no, I do not have a need to communicate with 200-300 people. Actually I have never needed that.

I don't find it overwhelming to be in group chat with 8 people. We all seem to take turns speaking. In Cyrodiil in a large group, it can be dfferent, but all depends on the group. Generally, we seem to be a bit more coordinated, with people only talking if they need to call out certain things like, enemy over there etc.

But yeah I can see text will have benefits... but just concerned that it will arrive with the same level of toxicity I have seen in other MMO's that use text.

LOL I guess I've been lucky not being in those groups. Since June I can only think of one instant and that guy got kicked from the group lol. Or maybe it's console? I don't see or hear the toxic stuff over here... but then again i'm involved in smaller tight nit guilds, not the larger 500 max ones. So maybe I've been lucky on missing out the drama there!?

I am on PS4 MacCait lol... And voice chat is way worse than text chat imo. I always leave voice chat because I always get mouth breathers, background yellers and TV speaker echo from *** people... SO In my personal experience, voice chat is the worse thing ever...

In the last ESO live Rich Lambert said that txt chat had been designed and engineers were working it into the coding and would be released ASAP. As its just a console thing they could update it anytime.
