Upgrading to DX12 wouldn't cause bugs... FPS drops and performance downgrade for the first 3 months FOR SURE!

Actually, from what I've read (I'm far from being an expert) the features in DX12 that could vastly improve performance also require developers to go much lower level, which means a great potential for buggy code.

Unless whatever engine ESO uses is updated by the original developers, ZOS' track record doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that they can pull off a good DX12 implementation. I still hope they do, though - I'm just cautious and don't want to build high expectations.

Aslong as your not trying to run Windows 10 of an old crappy 2meg Pentium 2.

Windows 10 was designed to work with NEW laptops/computers best, those that sit with +8 GB.
Personally I run an MSI with 32 GB and Windows 10 operates like a dream, so much faster to do everything now.
Being First is not the prize, it just mean's everyone can stab you in the back.

    Fixed that for you.

To anyone worrying, no game developer would EVER force a new API that is as young as DX12. They only force DX11 here because it is ancient and 99% of gamers playing a newer(ish) game like this should have a DX11 capable card. At best you can get options, at worst just DX11.

HOWEVER, can someone post a link to an ESO dev confirming DX12 and not just some random person's vid on youtube?

Also keep in mind, a DX12 patch could still be over a year away, let them add the DX11 specific optimizations first, which can benefit everyone.

I know this is a few month old necro but here's a post I found from an old ask us anything:

@Hyade - Is a DX12 upgrade a possibility in the future? ESO runs pretty darn well, except when there are many things requiring animation on screen at once. My slight understanding of this is that there are too many "draw calls" going out in such situations, and that DX12 handles them drastically better. Right now I run my game on lower settings specifically because of the lower framerate I get in cities, and it sounds like DX12 could improve the situation.
Yes, we are planning on a DX12 upgrade and expect that this will give us a number of graphics performance improvements. We cannot provide an ETA at this time, but it is something we’re working towards.

Now obviously with the no ETA thing it's probably not on their highest priority and no guarantee we'll even see it at all but given they've not long ago removed DX9 support it might be a sign that they are working on making things easier to port to DX12. Heroes & generals done a similar thing by removing the DX9 renderer in order to add a DX12 one.

However I suspect we probably wont see DX12 support soon, if it does drop it'll probably happen when DX12 games start to become more common.

SOunds good, but didn't this game just make everyone switch to directX11. With this everyone will have to upgrade to crappy Windows 10

As much as I love the game, but I'd rather quit for good than upgrading to Windows 10 if I had to.

Same. Windows 10 is malware. Spyware forced on customer PC's by updates they didn't ask for, reading activity and even the content of your email with absolutely no legitimate technical justification other than to spy.

By every definition this is malware and MS should be sued in a massive multi-BILLION dollar class action lawsuit.

But no, I will not be playing if they force dx12, nor do I believe they would.

I'd like 11 and 12 support. The future
