Armor hard/soft cap.

Xandyaffonso
I know that there are previous discussions about this, yet I just found some 1 year old. So I want to make sure that it hasn`t changed.

First, what is the difference between hard and soft cap?

I heard that the soft cap for armor is 32,500, so what happens if I have more than that? I have heard different answers. Some say it doesn`t change anything, some say it does, some do math to explain. Anyway, what is the difference between someone with 32k resistance and someone with 40k?

Your mitigation won't get any better if you increase your armor past 32500(50% mitigation), however any armor past that will create a buffer against enemy armor debuffs. If you have 5000 more armor than what is needed to reach the cap, and someone debuffs you for 5000, then you will still be at the cap(basically be immune to armor debuffs).

(Note: getting at cap, or even beyond, would require some serious focus on armor. Like, all heavy 1h/s, sacrificing enchants, set bonuses, mundus etc. Not worth it, imo.)

Just want to point out that its only mitigation from your resist that cant go higher than 50% which btw is more like 33,150 last time I did the math. Using other skills and sets you can get a higher mitigation. Most average tanks for example lie at arond 83-85% total mitigation. And lastly, with the right gear set up its super easy to get to hardcap without enchants or mundus its just not very worth it, not even as a tank. I run with only about 21-23k resists and I can tank any PvE group content with no issues. So its better to uses your sets on stuff that can contribute more.

Oh and since you wanted to know difference for soft and hard cap. A soft cap will let you go past it but will limit the effect after reaching it, a hard cap makes it so that a number cant go past it. The mitigation is hard capped but the resists causing the mitigation is soft capped

Also have 20kPhys and 23k spell and as paul allready said, this is enough. So look for sets/skills that buff your group.

    That would be for trials.

Ive capped both resists on 5x medium/2x heavy setup. With armor master and immovable on a stamina NB. Its pretty easy to cap resist with the current skills and sets, even without dedicating many CP to increase armor and spell resist.
