Will removing VR ranks make sets like the Warlock/Necropotence viable?

I still don't understand how the removal will effect gear. Will my VR1 be able to wear my VR16 gold gear now? AND, as the title says, will sets that only scale to say VR10 (for example) be worthy to upgrade to gold and use?

The "gear gate" is being set by the Champion Point (CP) level instead of VR level from what I understand.

So yes your VR1 will be able to wear V16 gear (assuming you have 160 CPs) or V10 gear, but my understanding is that VR10 will be converted to CP 100 and will still have the same stats as VR10, so it will not be viable for an end game build.

We don't know a lot yet, but from what has been said gear will have a CP requirement. VR16 gear will need 160 CP to be equipped, roughly. - Don't worry, if your char is v16, and does not match the new CP requirement, your CPs will be boosted so that you can still wear your gear.

Low level/low CP requirement gear will still have lower stats/can't take the best enchantments, so I'm afraid it will be the same situation as it is right now. We'll know more in a few weeks when the new updates comes to PTS.

From what Rich Lambert has said:
A little context here before this gets too out of hand…
    1. We’re still working on the system – nothing is finalized. (which is why we’re not really talking much about it yet)
    2. The intention is that once you hit 50, champion points take over. Veteran Ranks are completely removed.
    3. When Veteran Ranks are removed, we will convert any Veteran Ranks on your highest character into CP.
    4. To get a rough idea of balance - think of 10CP = 1 VR. (so 160 CP will roughly = VR16)

    Additional Details:
    • We’re planning on giving 2.5 CP for every VR level you’ve earned on your highest level character. (40 for a VR16 character)
    • When the conversion happens, any player with CP less than their old veteran rank * 10 will instead be given enough CP such that their total is VR * 10. For example: A player is VR14 with 75 CP, they will be given 65 CP (140-75) instead of 40, so that they can still equip any gear they may have.
    • We will make sure the 16 attribute picks you got from VR1 to VR16 will carry over. (current plan is an achievement that goes up in 10 CP increments until 160)

Keep in mind that none of the stuff above is 100% locked in. We're still implementing the feature - things are subject to change. It's important that everyone understands they are not suddenly going to have to have 501 CP in order to equip the top level gear. We will introduce new gear, with higher CP requirements sometime in the future, but we won't be making huge jumps. (i.e. - we won't go from 160 to 400 suddenly)

Once we finalize the system and lock in more of the details, we will discuss things in more detail and answer questions.

we can probably ascertain that if you have 160 CP at conversion then regardless of whether your characters are VR16 or VR1 they will be able to wear the same level of gear since VR16 = 160 CP. This is why most people are levelling their alts up to VR1 now because if everyone is dropping to level 50 with Dark Brotherhood, why go any further?

As for sets, I highly doubt it even though it would be amazing. Some sets like Vicious Ophidian or Two-Fanged Snake could be really nice at VR16 (or 160 CP) but doing that would mean places like IC are worthless for their gear drops outside of things like SPC/Scathing Mage due to the same gear dropping elsewhere.

I want old sets viable as well, but in reality we just do not know. Hopefully we see the 2.4.0 patch notes and can test on the PTS very soon (or at least some new info).

Unlikely to be viable based on their description of the replacement of VR.

They will scale gear, eg, 100 cp gear, 150 cp gear, 200 cp gear.

Based on behaviour to date, they will not scale all gear upto the max 'cp level' because they want us to buy their DLCs.

So no, all gear will not be 'level 50', they are swapping vr with a different scale.

It would really open up some possibilities for interesting/ non-meta builds.

Warlock was really only useful in PvE. Wearing it for healing or dps in PvE meant weak sauce dps/heals since it's pretty much regen.

My guess is the lower vet rank gear will have lower stats than v16 gear after they flatten us out to lvl 50. In other words, something at current v12 will retain the lower stats vs v16 gear.

wouldn't it be so cool if we could design our own gear with traits we want (so everyone could have unique gear) based off of cps....

It would be very hard to implement and I think it would have to have a multiplier on it if you stack the same trait on more then once but it would be cool to design a full set of gear to do what we want with it and it consumes cp as we build it in a demo before it is truly made.

When they first talked about getting rid of vet ranks, having all the gear at the same level is what made me excited about the change.

I'm pretty disappointed that it seems like old sets still won't be considered endgame.

It's what we currently have with crafted gear. We choose set bonus, racial style and trait per piece. Of course we cannot craft that which is only available as a drop but that works well. Reason to do certain content.

It would all be for level 50 but CP has to play a role. With the CP system content will need to scale to CP instead of vet rank as well. Otherwise everything becomes silly easy and we already have enough of that now.

    No, and yes.
Yes, your VR1 will be able to wear your VR16 armor. No, your VR12 gear will not be as good as your VR16 gear.
