Group Finder Scaling Question

Hey all, so I'm confused by the group finder. My cousin and I have been leveling together and are about lvl 13 now, so we decided to do one of the first 4-man dungeons. We see that there's a random daily reward -> awesome -> que. Was this a mistake? We ended up with a Vet 16 party member plus someone else our level and couldn't get anywhere. Everything was scaled to Vet 16 and could two-shot us with autoattacks (not heavy attacks). The Vet player was the only one who could do any damage. We tried 2-manning the same dungeon and could easily get past the first several mobs when they were actually our level, so it seems like a scaling issue.

We tried using the "Specific Dungeon" que and had the same result. Do we need to just do LFG spams of zone chat to get people our level, or are we misunderstanding how to use the Group Finder? Should we ignore dungeons entirely until we won't be bringing the group down by doing them at the advertised level?

Groups in group finder will be vet 16. Once in dungeon you can leave and reform and it will scale to group leader. Your first dungeons might be difficult especially if you don't have proper roles. Scaling it down makes it a little easier but not much different. A lot of people 'play as they want' when soloing and it works fine but when doing group content it sometimes exposes sub par builds.

Group Finder tool basically scales you up to v15 and the dungeon to v16. Your scaling will be better if you have set gear of decent quality.

I would recomend you to group via zonechat, with friends and guildies ... the dungeon will scale to group leader's level that way.

Alright, thank you for the responses. My cousin and I will try to find a newbie-friendly guild and work from there. When you ask in zone chat, everyone boos you and tells you to use the Group Finder...and then goes back to berating other new players for not immediately understanding various game systems.

It just seems oddly nonsensical that ESO has an "updated" Group Finder to make it easier to use, but at the same time it became entirely unfriendly to new characters. I mean, player skill and knowledge aside, new characters simply don't have the skills, stat points or gear to make "good" builds. So you have to level to 50+ to do the level 12 dungeons with a random group...?

Anyway, I'll stop whining. Thank you for the help. =)

@Mordiethan nah it's alright to complain about it. Under certain conditions the grouping tool is good to use, and other conditions it's really bad.

You can help your scaling by:
    • set armor and weapons
    • green or better quality of armor, weapons and enchantments
    • blue food buff

To add the the above tips, next time you are in a group finder group.. look at your stats while inside a dungeon. It will show you scaled up stats so you know what you may be lacking. Hopefully you can find a group that will help you out with not only understand the dungeon mechanics, but also how to make better use of your scaling.

If you are on PC NA I could invite you to my guild. We are friendly with new people and also have a weekly dungeon night where we would be more than happy to help you learn these things :)
