It does look pretty badass... but no. I'm not going to buy it.

Seeing the screenshots above, I actually kind of get why they covered the thighs. I think it the thighs were exposed, it would have been a distracting feature of the costume. It would have looked out of place for some reason.

Here's my terrible shot at seeing what it would look like with exposed thighs:

You guys really need to up your game on this - I actually don't mind buying fluff like costumes and mounts in the hopes you will reinvest the money wisely in game improvements - but lately you just seem to be phoning it in...

The only difference I see is lack of a torn up cape (lag-inducing and hard to make) and some covered skin on the female. Not enough to raise a big fuss about.

Even with the differences being minor, what they have effectively done is removed value from a high-anticipated vanity item. Typically good business practice is to add value, not remove it. The price tag doesn't do this removal of value any justice either. Granted, it's a bit cheaper than the Nord costume, but it's still 2x the price of any other costume on the store.

If it was simply being touted as another costume and charged at 700 crowns or thereabouts then the changes wouldn't really bother me but based on the Ebonheart one they will be charging a premium for this because it is supposed to look like the one from the trailer. I wouldn't expect the cape but the other changes seem pointless and/or lazy - plus I am not raising a big fuss just responding to a poll with my personal opinion, if you want it then buy it and I hope you enjoy wearing it.

I like it! But the hood is the worst in the game so I disabled it.

    That is it?

looks like normal crafted armor...very bland, nothing special there...no thanks

I think that's my main point of contention for crown store costumes @Hope499 . They should ALSO be sold as motifs, not just costumes.

I just wish you could dye costumes , its a bit too light green for me in daylight. The image in the crown store makes it look almost black but in preview its more of an olive green. Also not a fan of the exposed back on the female version and covered thighs. So I'm on the fence about getting it.

I disagree. The Nord Hero outfit was really poorly done. So much, I think they should have removed it, remade it and re-relased it. Compared to that, the Altmer Hero outfit is a major improvement.

Compared to the old Altmer Hero outfit, what we got is arguably an improvement too. The colors and textures look better, the gloves were changed to resemble the original one better (although they should have kept one of the hands covered to match the cinematic) and overall there are more details. The only change that I perceive as (arguably) negative is the thighs being covered. I won't argue the lack of a cape because, in a game with no capes, I can't fathom how anyone could expect it to have a cape.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

I bought it, and while it's not bad, I think the fact it's named "Elven Hero Costume" is kind of misleading. It should be the Altmer Hero Costume, as the hero who wore it is Altmer. It's definitely not a Dunmer or Bosmer hero costume.

Im usually very critical of things ZOS does. In this case however, they uncharacteristically did a lot of things right. I mean look at the costume: it doesnt deform your character, it has no massive hip/butt flaps, the shoulders are scaled and anchored correctly on both males and females (almost no gear in game has this - either male parts are too big and misaligned while the female ones are right or the male ones are right and the female ones are too small and anchored too close together), there is no floating and there doesnt seem to be much clipping. By ZOS standards that in itself makes this an epic costume.

I must say, it looks way better on some female characters, like on @Thavie screens. But also mostly because of the lightning in these particular screens.

It looks totally awful on my small dunmer : in it she looks like she's totally overweight, when she is just "not skinny".

And the skirt doesn't look like a skirt at all, just like the usual fabric hip-flats/long jerkin that are available already in many armor designs.
It lacks texture, that armored part feels much more massive than in the trailer, and in regular daylight, the colors are kinda meh.
