'The Patch'

ZOS. You were the chosen one! It was said you would build upon and improve ESO, not destroy it. Bring balance to the game, not leave it in darkness... You were my life ESO... I loved you.

And we all know that Anakin / Darth Vader turned good in the end which leads me on to this:

Yes, we all know how ESO is rather broken and depressing at the moment with bugs, balance issues, lag and silly game design. However, we know that ZOS is working to try and resolve the issues people have as well as polish problems with the game and improving aspects of it.

So my question is when do you think 'The Patch' is going happen? When I say 'The Patch' I mean the patch or patches to fix the lag, to balance the game to bring ESO out of the darkness.

As far as I can see some portion of the playerbase (usually the ones who post on the forum) always thinks their favourite MMO is simultaneously the best game out there and broken beyond all hope of repair unless the developers implement every single one of their ideas.

They always think the moment when they will finally happen is just around the corner, surely even the stupid incompetent devs who managed to spew out the best game ever made can see that this persons brilliant ideas are exactly what needs to happen to save the game from itself and it's only a matter of time before they do it.

And yet somehow every patch just makes the game progressively worse (whilst still being better than anything else), but surely the next one will fix it all...

In other words: never. Because no matter what ZOS do, or don't do, someone will be unhappy with it.

Ummm. Did you not play when many NPC's and players appeared without clothes with textures not loading. Have you not played PvP? (The lag in large fights is unplayable) Bugged skills too.

All this after 2 months of PTS testing. Releasing 'Incremental Patches' in this state is unacceptable.

No I haven't experienced those issues, and I don't PvP. The game has run pretty flawlessly since PC launch for me, although I did get a broken quest a couple of weeks in which was fixed by abandoning and retaking it.

Balance is still not there yet, but consider how much it has improved since launch, when vampire magicka DKs could solo dozens of people and medium armor builds were often kicked out of endgame PVE groups. I played magicka DK, but also stamina NB, and various other classes. I was thrilled when balance improved because it gives you more options to try all kinds of different builds.

Over the past 12 months, there have been some huge improvements for stamina builds, and this is a result of feedback from players on the forums and in-game. Don't you recall the days when stamina NB was one of the weakest builds in the game, stam DK was an endangered species and stam sorc was so rare it was like spotting a unicorn?

People wanted to have the option of viable stamina builds (some even quit ESO because of this), made their voice heard and it took a long time, but eventually, the balance improved as a result.

It might seem like a simple matter to adjust this skill and that one to improve the balance, but it appears to take lots of time and trial and error to fine tune all these interconnected class abilities and passives.

We've seen in the past few big updates the balance swings a bit one way, then following feedback from the many thousands of players on the live server, it shifts back the other way a bit. Eventually it will improve further, but it is something that is always going to be adjusted as new abilities and sets are added.

ESO will never return from the Dark Side
I judge based on improvement. Truly, I hate to say this kind of thing, but ZOS has made console Cyrodiil performance worse with almost every patch (current patch has also degraded performance in both PvP and PvP as well) and unbelievably worse from launch on PC until now.

When a 2-year long history points to this game getting worse, with no present improvement to go upon, why believe that Devs infatuated with $$$ and obviously giving no real f***s for Cyrodiil and IC (half the game) will fix anything?

At least show some baby steps in the right direction before I change my mind. Dark Brotherhood and Q3 will be ZOS's biggest opportunity to fix things ever. Btw, Viscious Death and Shieldbreaker are perfect examples of how to ruin PvP. No more sets along the b***s*** route plz

Fair points, I'm just against the idea of altering skills that don't really need to be.

Speaking of magicka DK, I'm thinking about rolling one soon...what race did you use? I'm leaning towards Dunmer or Altmer.

Very strange if you haven't encountered any of the massive amount of issues ESO has had. You don't PvP, lots of people DO PvP and lots of ESO's community used to be based on it, however as the lag and balance became worse people began to leave, ZOS now mainly focuses on catering to PvE players and 'carebears' (I do not mean this as an insult) as well as making $$$

The thing is you need to realize that many PvPers who love and care about the game and are passionate about it have basically been shunned and abandoned for over 1 year now. People being unable to what they love most in the game and what could be so absolutely fantastic.

I've no idea why you've addressed those remarks to me. I've indicated quite clearly that I understand that some people report these issues, and have simply stated that I haven't experienced them. In response to a query I have confirmed I don't PvP. I am aware, of course, that 99% of the complaints against the game relate to PvP, and I say that without any intended sense of judgement.

Talking of any intended sense of judgement, might I suggest that if you don't mean to use the term "carebear" as an insult, you don't use it all, especially in a gratuitous way? You could easily have excluded "and 'carebears' (I do not mean this as an insult)" without affecting the point you were making in the slightest.

PvPers haven't been shunned and abandoned for over 1 year now. They have had a host of skill and other balancing changes, they have had a PvP-centred DLC, and they have had various attempts to fix the very real performance issues affecting Cyrodiil. That fact is not disproved by the additional fact that those things either haven't been fully effective or liked by the players.

Like I said, while I don't have any problems with the game I am well aware that some do. All I object to is when people elect to speak for everyone when complaining about problems that not everyone experiences, and when they have no basis on which to speak for everyone in the first place.

This game will be dead on pc this year. Consoles will only keep it alive because it's the only MMO they have. The game is becoming more welcoming for new/returning players which is all good for short term quarterly sales, but very allinating for most if you're trying to create a stable long-term MMO.

Maybe, maybe not. Certainly it's not just a small few of forum users, but that of course doesn't tell us a lot about players' experiences as a whole. In any event, it's not a case of wearing rose coloured glasses, it's a case of reporting my own personal experience. I fully recognise that others have problems with the game, mostly but not exclusively in relation to PvP, but do you not accept that some at least do not?
