Talking about Arenas, what about we modify the one we already have?

Hello,

I was surfing the forums and went to read a Thread about Arenas. My concern is not why we should or shouldn't have Arenas, my concern is what we can do with what we have in the near future. Here is my answer to someone in that Thread:
I personally like the idea. It would be good for players like myself who struggle in pvp to get practice and hone their builds and skills.

That is exactly what a lot of people would ask of such a concept. They did good with Imperial City Districts for quick respawns, but the mobs are an unnecesary addition. My first thought when I saw IC was coming was "Arena District in TES4 Oblivion remake, I'll have a lot of fun PvP'in in there."

But again, the mobs ruins it.

Do you want an Arena in ESO ? Let's all ask the devs to Remove the Bosses in the center of the Arena District, and make the upper floor accessible so people can go /sitchair and watch others fight.

I was wondering if it's possible to ask such a thing to the Developpers and how it would affect the Game ? Also, how long would it take to implement it ?

What do you guys think ?

Those are PvE zones and therefore no ennemy alliance would show up.

Your exemples are good but how would it be implemented ? I look forward to see them in upcoming big Arenas patch (or DLC?).

But for now a quick and easy solution would be a small and simple change in Imperial City Arena District I think.

If they really wanted to make a spectator zone they could easily do what they did with the sewers ladders/spawn points and make your character immune to all damage while in that zone. The real trick would be how to access that area. If it's a load door, that requires you to not be in combat (like we see with the door to get into the center boss fights). It'll also definitely be a prime spot to gank (like we see with the above cyrodiil sewer entrance). If it were a location you can just run to, it'll be abused by people and act as a safe zone to recover.

How they could do it, I imagine something similar to the trap chests in the sewers, except in the form of a door. By that I mean you'd have to stand next to the door and spam "Open" (first come first serve) to be "queued" into the arena (which would only allow 2 combatants in at a time regardless of faction) and when 2 people are in the arena, the fight is on. I imagine the playerbase adopting something like what's currently in progress like jumping 3 times to indicate they are ready (Or perhaps bowing like in Dark Souls) and then we'll see all the forums posts about how "annoying" those people who don't wait/jump/bow are...

As to the effect on the game, that's hard to judge... Personally I loved using that center boss to farm TV and get drops for deconstruction. It was a near constant fight, where we had enemies nearly unable to get in, and even if they did make it in, died within seconds. It'd be sad to see that go, and it's hard to imagine where it would be moved too... maybe the arcane university grounds? or perhaps the waterfront?

Another issue here, that wasn't brought up, but I will.... 1v1 fights/duels do NOT teach you how to PVP. It just teaches you how to duel. They're vastly different from each other. You can be really good in solo or group pvp, and get absolutely crushed in a 1v1. Or worse when someone builds and uses a specific counter build (like the shieldbreaker set/bow combo) If you want to learn how to fight in PVP the arena district in it's current state is perfect. No long rides to get back to the fight, large groups, constant threat of flanking, how to handle a multi faction fight, using LOS and mobs to avoid damage, finding out who/what kills you the most, being able to actively see how a ganker positions themselves, important of choke points..... I could go on... but needless to say it's got it all. Once you get a hang of your skills, you can then go topside and help out.

If you want to learn how to fight in PVP the arena district in it's current state is perfect.

The problem with this is the fact that most PvPers get used of the mobs pretty quick and therefore the entire Imperial City are now pretty much empty of PvP, and is used mostly for PvE. I think there is more than enough places for PvE in all IC, and PvP is left down.

Let's assume that this is implemented correctly, it would give a mob free zone to PvPers and I'd say give the players the white card about everything. By that I mean, no safe zone, let everything as it is, just open upper floor and remove mobs inside the Arena. The Arena District would be left as it is now, except for the very center. So everyone could do everything they do now, except we would have a zone where people meet, greet and fight. Let me tell you with my ESO Experience in duels and organized small scale, that any griefers, abusers or simly Trolls will get chased down pretty quickly. This place would be PvP heaven for anyone who'd like to test anything in the range of 1v1's to 4v4's (The Center Arena is pretty small but would be perfect for those king of fights). I'm confident that guilds would form and this place would be full of people and respect. This is what we PvPers do since 2014. I can't count how many friends I made in ennemy factions, even if we kill each others on the battlefield, some times we are able to organize some friendly duels.

You know, I seen on PS4 people trying to duel or 2v2 right in front of the center Arena. I was wondering "Why can't we just fight inside the Arena" but the mobs are putting sticks in our wheels everytime. Keep in mind that this Idea reflects only for the center of the Arena District. So any practice in the Disctricts would stay, but we would have a little relaxing place without mobs to fight. Also, those people who farm endlessly those bosses and put down caltrops to prevent others to enter is in my opinion, to be honest, very lame. My solution would be to remove that door completely.

Why would an Alliance send only 4 warriors to face off against four others? What exactly does it accomplish? Its not like Cyrodiil where youre fighting for Keeps and Resources. If the Arenas have any backstory at all. It wont reflect that of Cyrodiil or the Imperial City. Itll be 2v2/4v4 and so forth in some sort of Fighting Pit that have been placed there to fight to the death for the spectators/to please a god/whomever "captured you". And for the sake of simplicity youll be paired up with players on your team or in the same faction. But it wont be tied to the AvAvA in any way other than who are to your left and right.

In my experience, on PS4 NA, Arena is still heavily populated with JUST PVP (and after the DLC an increase in mob spawns) at least in Skull of corruption and Thornblade. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "PVPers get used to the mobs, and now pvp is empty" My original statement was just saying the mobs as they are now, can act as LoS obstacles which is useful training (in general) for PVP.

As to the mentioned arena changes where everything is the same except the middle. This works only with servers with little to no population in IC, like on the moon-cursed server where everytime I go into the arena district it's devoid of players. But how long does that last once we have a nice system in place for dueling? I'd like to assume the best and people would (as we currently have, even without a dueling area) respect the dueling, wait their turn and so fourth, but the IC is a whole other beast to be dealt with. It's grief central.... I've done my fair share of meet ups and duels between guilds, I know how honorable we can be, but IC seems to bring out the worst players, and if they KNOW for certain there's going to be an influx of players in a specific location, even if they're hunted down and killed multiple times they'll still come back (even faster now since the spawn point is RIGHT there) and meteor groups, interrupt fights, etc etc. We would need some sort of safe zone, and possibly some sort of regulation as to how many can be IN the arena. (would also like a merchant on standby someplace to buy up some soul gems and food... there's always that 1 guy...)

Yeah it can be lame, I once saw 1 person (just by himself) just continuously throw caltrops and prevented anyone from getting in... that's all he was doing... So i messed with him a bit and used defense rune, and he couldnt figure out why he was being CC'd from the other side of the gate. fun times. But on the other side, when your group is in there farming TV and gear and such, it's nice to have that bit of "safety" when you dont really feel like dealing with a zerg who just got finished topside and decided to jump into the arena.

    IC is a PVE zone.

They won't change it, there are achievements linked to that.
