Will actual performance ever be a priority for this game?

Let's just first start off by saying that I'm super stoked to see the progress ESO has made since launch, and overall I'm pretty pleased with the game.
But let's be frank here, performance has never been good in this game. Even highend systems can't cope in large battles, and outdoor zones generally just have worse framerates than they should.

It's very very clear that there are big memory and threading optimization issues with this game. And it certainly seems to extend to the server-side of things the way we are seeing Cyrodiil performance just tank with every update.

Please, will performance ever be an issue? The FPS is not supposed to tank so heavily just because 20+ players are nearby. So many other games and other mmos are able to handle a large amount of players, so surely there are a lot of underlying issues with the code.

Is performance ever going to be a priority? It hasn't been at any point in the life of this game. At a certain point you're just gonna have to spend a lot of dough and get some proper C++ gurus in there to fix the horrible CPU bottlenecks. I'd venture a guess that this is also what's causing the lag in Cyrodiil campaigns, if the same programmers are working on server-side code.

Please please, can we have some proper feedback that you're actually actively acknowledging that the game performance is way lower than it should be, and that you're making performance a real priority, rather than just keep adding new content, making the codebase larger and larger without what i presume to be some pretty major refactoring and optimization steps to take to actually fix the engine.

Performance hasn't been a priority at all during the last 2 years, why would it become one now?

Because the more DLC they add the more convoluted the codebase becomes. So it makes sense to make it a priority sooner rather than later.

I don't know WHAT their priority is... point to any aspect of the game and you'll find players that feel that that part of the game isn't a priority to ZOS.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

But let's be frank here, performance has never been good in this game.

Indeed, it has not been, is not and, at this rate, will not be. Knowing this, will you ragequit? No? So here goes the answer for whether they will ever make it a priority. People who did mind must have left long ago, the rest keeps on playing, so at this point I fail to see why they should even bother, especially if all it takes to make these people pay is to throw a mount to the cash shop.

Well maybe I'm the only one but it is the reason I'm not playing the game.

I do believe it hurts the longevity of the enjoyment for players. Especially the Cyrodiil issues if they are PvP'ers.

I imagine it's hard to work on performance when you are forced/contracted to keep making DLCs that will keep generating income because the suits (those who profit the most from this game) it's all about the money they can generate. This is a business and there isn't much immediate payoff in spending time fixing things. It's more cost efficient to make your developers crank out DLCs than have them improve performance.

The priority is your wallet at the moment. That's fine and is how a business works.

But.... they don't understand that to generate more profits on the long run: you should make the customer happy and keep him satisfied. And at the moment they are failing hard.

Not according to ZOS and they would know. Seems the ONLY people complaining about ESO are PvP players who are already the minority players in the game... so if they are keeping the majority happy, then they are not "failing hard".

Uhm. It's not my idea, it's just a matter of actually spending some time with some profilers and doing some proper programming.

You're right of course, but I'm sure they're generating enough revenue to have at least one programmer doing nothing but engine optimizations.

They did but it was the same vague runaround.

They came about as close to saying "we blew it" with TG as I am assuming they could which is a hopeful sign.

It is affecting PvE too now, so I think the high horse attitude from those of the community looking down on pvpers as whiny "hanger-ons," should stop.

It's your game too if you believe there is something innately bad about PvP that forces the lag you are wrong and you will experience it too in the near future unless priorities are changed.

I noticed a big drop in performance when they introduced anti-botting "stuff" (not sure what it was). I would rather have hordes of farmers than the lagfest in Cyrodil that makes pvp hopelessly bad. ZOS please bring back the game as originally released.

Based on all scientific data accumulated since ESO's beta launch and after considerable observation and thought to the question "Will actual performance ever be a priority for this game?" the answer is NO.

I always thought it was sad since ZOS purposely ignores their main selling point. PvP! Those trailers were always overdone, but highly accurate. This is no longer the case, and game performance is HORRIBLE.

PvE was what I had always advertised as a good side to ESO, the part ZOS had nurtured and gotten right. However, the Thieves Guild patch on console caused FPS to nosedive, and introduced some game-breaking bugs (no revive bug, bolt escape/camera bug, viscious Death early proc bug, etc).

    PERFORMANCE MUST BE #1

The performance wasn't good before TG. It's just a small bit worse now. There's always been framedrops when many players are nearby. I can understand a bit of framedrops if there's hundreds of players nearby, but it drops when there's 20+..

TG wiped 10fps across the board for me on average while doing 0 to increase any visuals, and yeh this is after their hotfix.
This is a feature we do still intend to do, but there are many other things taking priority so we don't yet have an exact update when this will be implemented.

They showed on ESO live the statistics for fps and latency from the last few updates..

I'd love to see it for before and after the lighting/anti bot patch. Must have dropped hard.
