Holding down the pet button for about 4 seconds desummons them I thought?

Or, they could fix the bug so pets don't phase into the ground...
The problem isn't the "unsummon" mechanic, it's the bug that causes the summons to need to be resummoned.

Actually, it sounds like it's both...
Heck, this still happens with some quests with an NPC follower, they either simply won't follow or will just never enter buildings with you... it's very annoying.
Why did they even remove the ability to desummon them by holding the button down?

Because you have to cast their special abilties now. So in order for your pet to heal you and itself you must use it as its an ability instead of a toggle. Where the pet use to be able to auto use the special abilties they have, now you have to do it for them. For pc players its easy to get rid of them still just have to push c and right click on the pets in buff screen. I am not sure how it works on consoles it might be harder for them. Which I am sure it is because without a mouse its harder to navigate to menus like attributes menu.
So basically it could be a real hassle for console players, but not much of a hassle for those with a mouse and a key board.

Actually what I was referring to was on the PTS they had a short period where you could desummon the pets by holding they key down instead of just pressing it once like it was before.

Its possible they patched that option out, I don't know exactly but I think they did.
