Could we get crossbows in a future update?

So I've been wondering if we'll get any of the sexy Dawnguard-esque crossbows in a future update for ESO? I honestly think that they would be a great addition, since those were a big thing in the Dawnguard DLC. Just a thought, feel free to leave any criticisms below.

Shotdasha Bai'Nahrahe - Female Khajiit Dragonknight

I know what you mean - a crossbow to replace the normal bows. That would be cool. However, we do have Silver Bolt:

"Fire a Dawnguard Vampire Hunter's crossbow bolt to strike enemy for 658 Physical Damage.
Knocks down Daedra and undead for 3.5 seconds and has a 30% chance to deal an additional 1311 Magic Damage."

I always though the animation looked pretty awesome.

I agree being able to hold a crossbow would be awesome problem I see is balancing it. they load slower and hit hard but just how slow would it be to load it vs how hard it hits :/

I would imagine that if they were added they would be buffed for reload speed and that the damge would be the same as in Dawnguard, although that may be a little OP.

that's the issue with them though trying to make them a viable option as preference over a bow without completely making bows uselsess

I guess, but there's still a lot of people who would more than likely take bows over crossbows.

Crossbows are shorter range weapons suited for those not all that skilled in Bows. They have a slow reload rate (go play Morrowind and watch enemies who use them against you to see that animation). Longer distances, harder hitting and higher reload rates are the regular Bow's bread and butter.

Of course this is a game and realism gets thrown out the window on a regular basis, but I don't see Crossbows as being a better weapon or even a comparable weapon to a Bow
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Actually... all the "longer range" of a bow depends on indirect fire, something bows are quite a bit better at then crossbows (and trained archers are a LOT better at then trained crossbowmen, mostly due to archers needing a lot more training to be considered competent then crossbowmen...). And those longer ranges were all way beyond usuall ESO bow ranges anyways, since we mostly shoot at direct line of sight targets, but with abyssal accuracy - as in, best used agaionst a charging horde so you might hit someone by sheer accident when fiding at their general location... you didn't fire those bows on target, you fired them on range, timed so your swarm of arrows would drop down just as the charging enemies would pass that range mark..

And, all the bows in ESO would be regular bows or shortbows. None of them are longbows, and those were the only ones who could claim "harder hitting thehn crossbows"...

Crossbows do however have a much lower rate of fire then bows, true, but generally better armor penetration. I could see them becoming alternate weapons for "bow" skill with those...

What precisely makes it a "Dawnguard" crossbow bolt, did zenimax forget that corssbows were in Morrowind as well and had no affilication with the dawnguard.

They could add a channeled skill called Wrecking Bolt ☺

They could add a 4th stat that would apply to bows and crossbows only besides the normal health, stamina, and magicka called "Lung Capacity" or "Breath" for short as it would be used more like a sniping system similar to something like Sniper Elite, but in a MMO like way. Since this era was more like hunters who know how to snipe naming it "instinct" could be a better way to go about it.

My only problem would be that it could have something like a superior stealth snipe than the current bow and make heavy armour even more useless in pvp.

Yes to crossbows. ZOS can even be lazy and use the same animation for them as silver bolt with the same skill tree as bows.

Personally I would adore having crossbows as optional alternative for bows in that skill line. Like mentioned, perhaps with some bonus armor penetration yet an "reload" cooldown after each shot... my dunmer bounty huntress would switch at once, for fluff reasons! ;)

I've been dying for real crossbows, not the tiny ones that come with the fighter's guild Silver Bolts.
People dont want them, saying they wouldnt work.
And that they arent lore friendly.However,..they WERE in Morrowind.

Well, crossbows aren't usually the most stealthy things if you're talking about weight. They've kind of done away with carry weight, though, so I don't know if they would be able to make crossbows (if they add them) have a weight disadvantage.

    Bump!

Don't do that, they kill and eat threads that bump around here...

But, seriously, the difference in Morrowind was that crossbows always did a fixed amount of damage (bows, like most weapons, had a damage range, and the amount they did was somewhat random.)

Skyrim added the long reload animation which partially rooted you after every shot, with a short wind up... unlike bows, which had a long, semi-rooting wind up and complete freedom post shot.

ESO... wouldn't really fit in with that, because it would basically turn it into a weapon that heavy attacks with every shot (which is what the crossbows in Dawnguard did). And that's wouldn't be a good thing in context of ESO.

Don't get me wrong, I think it would cool to have Crossbows and thrown weapons back with their own skill lines. I just doubt we'll get either.

I'd settle for a buffing bow to be more competitive DPS with other weapon lines.

Probably the best and easiest way to implement this would be according to the other weapon skilllines. Just change the animation for crossbows and change the bow skill line to "ranged".

Then they could add a passive that has a different effect for bow and crossbow. For example bow increases weapon critical and crossbow ignores armour. Or maybe even add longbows for greater distance and shortbows add a bleeding effect.

The reload time should be the same for all weapon types (even if crossbows realistically take longer to reload.) Think is is important for PVP balance.
