I agree being able to hold a crossbow would be awesome problem I see is balancing it. they load slower and hit hard but just how slow would it be to load it vs how hard it hits

I would imagine that if they were added they would be buffed for reload speed and that the damge would be the same as in Dawnguard, although that may be a little OP.

Actually... all the "longer range" of a bow depends on indirect fire, something bows are quite a bit better at then crossbows (and trained archers are a LOT better at then trained crossbowmen, mostly due to archers needing a lot more training to be considered competent then crossbowmen...). And those longer ranges were all way beyond usuall ESO bow ranges anyways, since we mostly shoot at direct line of sight targets, but with abyssal accuracy - as in, best used agaionst a charging horde so you might hit someone by sheer accident when fiding at their general location... you didn't fire those bows on target, you fired them on range, timed so your swarm of arrows would drop down just as the charging enemies would pass that range mark..Crossbows are shorter range weapons suited for those not all that skilled in Bows. They have a slow reload rate (go play Morrowind and watch enemies who use them against you to see that animation). Longer distances, harder hitting and higher reload rates are the regular Bow's bread and butter.
Of course this is a game and realism gets thrown out the window on a regular basis, but I don't see Crossbows as being a better weapon or even a comparable weapon to a Bow

What precisely makes it a "Dawnguard" crossbow bolt, did zenimax forget that corssbows were in Morrowind as well and had no affilication with the dawnguard.The_Patriarch wrote: »I know what you mean - a crossbow to replace the normal bows. That would be cool. However, we do have Silver Bolt:
"Fire a Dawnguard Vampire Hunter's crossbow bolt to strike enemy for 658 Physical Damage.
Knocks down Daedra and undead for 3.5 seconds and has a 30% chance to deal an additional 1311 Magic Damage."
I always though the animation looked pretty awesome.

I've been dying for real crossbows, not the tiny ones that come with the fighter's guild Silver Bolts.
People dont want them, saying they w ouldnt work.
And that they arent lore friendly.However,..they WERE in Morrowind.

Otherwise yes to crossbows.
