I created a Wood Elf Templar for the express purpose of going 2H/stam build, but I've decided I'd like to play more of a healer roll in PVP.

Do you have any build suggestions, or do I need to reroll a new toon.I'm currently level 40.

Apart from your Race you can spec your character completely without having to re-roll. The best healers are going to be Magicka based rather than stamina, so thats going to need a respec. What race is your character?
Remember red = dead and a dead dd deals no dps.

Healing Springs(grand healing) - Spam this for your main source of healing for sustainability.

Breath of Life (or another instant cast heal) - Use when someone is at under 40% and they need heals immediately.

Rune Focus (magicka regen morph) - Always throw this down, even if you aren't standing in it, it lasts 8 seconds.

That's the main things you'll need to heal. Also the Mages guild "mage light" will passively buff spell crits for being slotted, and can increase your max magicka. There is also another skill at the bottom called "Equilibrium" this move will sacrifice health for Magicka, this can be extremely useful but also dangerous. I was running a full Tank and Healer build using it, I maintained 24/7 heals. Also throwing Repentance everytime something dies will help a ton with resource management. Or you could use the Spear thing for resources but repentance doesn't cost you anything. But you need something dead to use it.

What is a 'wooded' templar? Would that be a Bosmer? Bosmer can actually be beneficial to a mage build because the passive stamina regeneration can actually save your life, particularly in pvp. If you're going for a healer build you also don't need to peak at the best damage, when healing good enough is all that is really important.

what @Smasherx74 basically suggested is really good advice...

Also for the sake of pvp, add Extended Ritual - it's a templar class skill purge, pvp'ers love it.

I made myself some basic light armor so I have 5 pieces. I'd like to have 1 good healing bar then one with destroying staff for DPS. Any thoughts?

restoration staff/ flame staff is good

I don't know what better pvp'ers do, but this is what works for me:
    Resto staff:
    • radiant magelight (or structured entrophy)
    • blazing spear
    • rapid regeneration (or healing springs if I'm in a group),
    • extended ritual
    • breath of life
    • Ultmate: barrier
    Destro staff:
    • radiant magelight (or structured entrophy)
    • total dark
    • crushing shock
    • elemental drain
    • breath of life
    • Ultimate: nova

I often change my skills depending on my team and their needs, and I am not a good pvp'er either ... but this works for me :D

Why Extended Ritual? Purifying Ritual is so much better for PVP..

I was wondering that myself. Is it because with the longer duration it's less of a magical drain? I've actually been using Purifying myself.

In PvP extended duration is pretty useless as you need to be moving constantly, purifying ritual has reduced cost & removes more negative effects than extended ritual

    @DephlaterMouse @DjKahun
I use extended ritual because I mainly play pve, so I didn't pay attention to that the other morph is better for pvp, sorry about that :3

Yes it's because of the extended time, so I can manage to cast my other 42434234 HoTs, buffs, debuffs and resource management skills when I heal in dungeons >.<

i prefer DW over destro, but i got both. This is how i usually run my healing build:

    DW:
    - Radiant oppression
    - Channeled focus
    - Reflective lights/blazing shards
    - Purifying light
    - Dark flare
    - Dawnbreaker of smithing/crescent sweep(depending if its daedric monsters or other types)

    Resto staff:
    - Healing springs
    - Siphon spirit
    - Breath of life
    - structured entropy(gives you 8% more max health on passive, + mage guild passive + increases your magick damage and healing by 20% for 20 seconds)
    - Radiant aura
    - rememberance
