Spies?

So guy in our group last night kicked someone because he said they were spy? How do you tell or even assume someone is a spy? And why or what purpose would spying serve in the sewers? If your playing a toon in a different alliance to spy isn't that just a waste of your time playing? Is this a common thing to do?

A spy can serve to give away the location of targets to his friends on the other faction, keep an eye on enemy movements, and generally unfairly ruin someone's day, for extended periods of time. I feel it's against the spirit of the game, but there's not much ZoS can do about it.

Detecting spies is a whole other matter, and there's no surefire way to do it.

They're a real thing in Cyrodiil, and they're fairly common.

    Be afraid.
    Be vigilant.
    Be safe.

    Makes sense I guess.
I don't see why there is not some type spy element in PVP. Like a spy scroll. So for like 1 hour the alliance who captures a spy scroll of another alliance can have spy. That looks like it's part of the alliance. The spy could enter keeps and give out info or mess with walls and gates from inside, but each time they communicate or do something they are revealed for a few seconds. Once they are attacked the cover is blown.

Well it is common and uncommon. Many players have friends in other alliences, and if they are up for it ..they give a hint to their friends about where there are players that can be farmed for AP.

Alternatively the guy could have had a char from a different allience as his main char, and just logged on to that char, to give coordinations to his friends - spying for fun, profit and out of boredom.

Alternatively your group leader was paranoid and couldn't handle being killed by the same players twice over.

Alternatively your group leader was paranoid and couldn't handle being killed by the same players twice over. At the same time the guy who was kicked out of group also happened to be a spy.

Alternatively your group leader was not paranoid, and he was whispered by a friend from different allience that his group member was a spy - so he kicked him based on a spy he had in a different allience.
