eso character names!

Danikat

Character names definitely matter to me. I spend a lot of time designing a character in my head before I go to make them in-game and the name is one of the things I think about. It needs to suit the character, look right and ideally be lore appropriate but I'm not that strict on the last one. (Also I'm playing on PC so people actually get to see it.)

My current ones are:
Danika Aurorel - female Khajiit Templar
Danielle Aurorel - female Breton Templar
Dawn's Star - female Argonian Nightblade
Sagittam Ad Genu - male Imperial Dragonknight
Holds-All-Stuff - male Argonian Draonknight

The first 3 are my 'main' characters, and the names are intentionally similar (although come to think of it that's not obvious to everyone - Aurorel means 'dawn star' - from the latin 'aurora' and quenyan 'elen'). They're all variants on my typical RPG main character. I know the khajiit's name isn't lore appropriate and I've thought about changing it but I've never been able to find something I'm happy with. For now my story is she adopted a surname to fit in when she moved to the north (she's a DC character). Considering in Skyrim she joined the Companions, became a werewolf and joined a rebellion she didn't entirely believe in to show her commitment to her new homeland it's not that much of a concession really.

Sagittam Ad Genu is my crafter. The name amuses me because it is completely lore appropriate in the sense that he's an Imperial and it's Latin but it's also both a short biography and a tired old joke which suits a tired old character. It means 'arrow to the knee'. As the name implies he's an older, overweight, heavily scarred guy, who is supposed to be a retired adventurer who settled in Auridon to make equipment for other people to go and get themselves killed. But when someone kidnaps and murders you to supply souls for their messed up little cult that's not the kind of thing you just forget about. And he seems to have a hard time saying no to other people who want help too. (Occasionally it does bother me that I can't make him limp, I settle for having him walk any time he's not on his horse.)

Holds-All-Stuff is obviously my mule. And the only time I've not been able to get the name I wanted on the first try - I was going for Holds-All-Things but that was taken.

Evilite

I usually name my toons with 4-8 letter names that are trueworthy to be names.

Elsir

Mine are Elsir Bright-Fire, Elsir Dark-Fire and Elsir Light-Fire and yes, it mattered to me when I was creating a name. I referenced a few lore-abiding sources for first and last names and came up with one that I liked and made sense to the lore, then stuck with some variation of it between characters I made.

Tryxus

Tryxus - Breton - v16 Nightblade - DC

He's my main: an Illusionist (Magicka Nightblade) and a follower of the Daedric Prince Nocturnal He is usually my first char in every game I play

Phantasm of Tryxus - Breton - lvl 3 Nightblade - DC

He's still lvl 3, but I've given him a lot of stuff (mostly Glyphs) to decon in order to lvl crafting skills. He's going to be a crafter after all Or a back-up crafter since Tryxus has too many skill points and knows the complete Glass Style. I'm definitely gonna take away Enchanting and Alchemy from my main and give it to this one.

Concept about this char came from Tenchu 3, where Rikimaru had a shadow/clone who was weaker than the real one but performed his missions.

In this case, he's an Illusion of himself that Tryxus created to help him when he's in a bind

Imaginos Tryxus - Imperial - v12 Nightblade - DC

A "What if"-character. I've often wondered how I would've played the game if I went with a StamBlade for a main, so eventually I decided to make him. I named him "Imaginos" to reflect that: an imagined character made real

Tabbycat

The main ones I play are:

Tabbycat: Khajiit Nightblade Thief. And no, her name isn't really Tabbycat but she is a thief so why would she tell you her real name?

Elberta Edwinn - Breton Mage (Sorc) - Named in honor of one of my favorite characters from Morrowind. I think you can guess who.

Marnie Merrille - Breton Templar

I also have a Dragon Knight but I can't think of her name because I haven't played her in a while.

I like that idea.

There's an elf scout in Dragon Age Inquisition with an unusual name (which I can't remember) and when someone queries it her answer is "I said you can call me that, I didn't say it was my name". Which I thought was clever, but it makes even more sense for a thief.

- Hayden Heartbreaker is my Skyrim's character name I pulled here. It's not very canonical to the race (Breton)
- Lilith Maryon, my Dunmer DK, is named by combining names and surnames from UESP list of Dunmeri names
- Alzzll, my Redguard stamblade, I named with a transliteration of arabic expression "The Shade" (as far as my research went). Phonetically it's pronounced "Al Vallum", being the "V" sounding more like a "B"
- Last but not least, Renée LeBlanc, my new Altmer Templar I've chosen a french name after some research about famous female Templars in actual history. Not that I've found any similar, but it sounds better than Joana D'Arc

I named my first character, my one and only sorcerer, Rainbow Starr, which I hate and wish I could change, but nvm She is just my crafter these days anyway. My others are;

Elara Norhtwind, Breton Templar and my I chose the name at random, so when I realised that there was a quest with a Breton princess named Elara, it kind of made my day

A while ago I started using anagrams of my first dark elf character name (way back when, in D&D pen&paper roleplaying games) as my character names, because it amused me. Thus I get for my main (as in, those I roleplay) characters:

"Leskandera" - V16 Dunmer Nightblade Bounty Huntress, likes to sneak a lot and poke people with arrows and daggers
"Kelasendar" - V16 Dunmer Sorceror Librartian, likes dark-colored (black-ish) clothes, reading books and being all depressed.

From their names, they are obviously commoners since they have no house name attached... so that's how I play them, RP-wise.

Sadly I did not spend ample thought on some of my alts back when I made 'em, thinking "eh, its only a crafting alt..." and thus am really keen on getting some rename option to change their names to something more lore conform... my orc craftsmistress is currently named "Keslandrea", but someday I will change that to "Kes dre-Lana" for added orkyness in name. Et cetera.

I'm not really good in coming up with character names, so they are not very RPGish.
Well, except for the lastname "Demnevanni"; I love Baladas Demnevanni (and even more his lastname for some reason) in Morrowind One of my two Demnevanni characters has the first name "Donna" because I thought it goes well together with this lastname, and Frances because I like that name^^

The other names are related to none-game things or persons, and the last in the list is related to a person and a story

"Raygee" is the name I was using from 2002-2015 for pretty much everything including my music project, so it's also the name of my first character from beta and again pre-launch. She's, well, a she (and so am I), not a guy what many people always think when they read this name, but the name I made up from someone elses name and initials a looong time ago and this someone is a guy^^

"Venus Ocean" is... was.. the music and art project of a dear and close friend, I was also working for this project. He passed away from a heavy lung fibrosis in December 2014 and we didn't get the chance to talk once more which I needed so badly at that time.. Of course I'll keep this character, and she's also become my "main" after Raygee.

"Gixia" and "Lady Olivieri" are related to each other, but I rather don't want to say why. "Ray McCluck" is related to them in a way, also to "Raygee" (the latter just because of the name). But "McCluck" is the name which is related to a story which I mentioned earlier, it includes a fictive (comic) chicken, so much I can say

And "Elaine Benes".. well, I'm a huge Seinfeld fan, and since I didn't want to have more than one male character and therefore couldn't choose Cosmo Kramer as a name (which is my favorite Seinfeld character!), I've chosen Elaine Giddy up!^^
