Tooltip vs Actual Damage.

What should the realistic amount of "mitigation" be and what can it be?

I'm currently seeing a lot of "I reduce your tooltip damage by ~60%" guys running around and they aren't blocking on attacks.

This is physical damage with their armor being reduced by major fracture + 2h mace with sharpened, and this isn't on the pts with the new physical mitigation.

So how is it possible exactly? What reduces damage like this?

They may be running crazy high impen builds with a decent amount of armor. There are other things like sets & abilities that can reduce incoming damage by a %. A great example is the Reactive set: (5 items) While affected by Stun, Immobilize, Fear, Knockdown or Disorient effects, damage you take is reduced by 35%.

It's all a balance though, I've run into tanky players I can't take down but they can't take me down either.

Impen only reduces critical damage.

I reduce armor by~12-13k or so.

Physical resistance cap is supposedly 50% mitigation, but you would have to have 40k+ armor versus my setup to even have that.

I know what the reactive set animation looks like and it's not that.

With total resistance capped you get 50% reduction. Add onto that abilities or armors that reduce damage.

Not sure exactly how impenetrable works in conjunction with resist, but my assumption is, if you crit, the damage would be reduced even further.

So in PvP I could see where an attack that's tooltip says deals 10k, could deal as little as 2k.

Other than blocking I don't think that's possible.

This is literally dealing with someone that takes much reduced damage at all times and I can't figure out how it's possible.

Plus, like I said... on current live I highly doubt anyone is capping physical resistance versus an armor penetration with major fracture build. Yet, I've been seeing this lately.

Right, it only reduces critical damage but my point is if they're already mitigating you with enough armor then you're really going to feel like they're super tanky when your crits don't do anything to them.

40k armor is definitely obtainable, but again it's all a balance, if you run into a super tank that can deal massive amounts of damage then I'd start to get worried.

Problem I'm having is I'm seeing people with this type of mitigation and no shield equipped and medium armor or light armor.

As a matter of fact I saw a certain smack talking forum poster that was in all light armor taking this type of reduced damage (Obviously I can't say who, the exploiters also seem to get anything mentioning them removed really quickly and oddly will get you muted here without warning).

I totally get that "mitigation" builds that stack armor are supposed to be hard to kill... fine with that, it's the way it ought be. This isn't that, it's mitigation that doesn't seem possible with high dps to boot.

Someone knows what's up, but it's hard to get past the solidarity of that sect of players.

Nope reduction like that is the mitigation exploiters in pvp.. its actually more likr a 75% reduction.. not gear, not cp, bug exploit

If you are doing 40%of tooltip damage then your enemies are only mitigating 20%. Dont forget the 50% damage reduction in cyrodiil.

Yes remember that Cyrodiil reduces damage by 50% and if the enemy then block then the total mitigation is 75%. Say instead that they were capped in resistance at 33150 resist for v16 then that is also 75% mitigation and if they have that and block then its 87.5% total mitigation. Its really easy to get high up in mitigation numbers in PvE and even easier in PvP with the Cyrodiil thingy. Easy to check total mitigation. Multiply the % in decimal with each other and then multiply it with the damage you were suppose to do/take, so for my example it was 0.5x0.5x0.5=0.125 so that is the decimal version of what is left which is 12.5% of the original damage aka 87.5% mitigation, to give another example lets say they were also a dk with absorb magick on with sword and board: 0.5x0.5x0.5x0.9x0.92x0.80=0.0828 or 91.72% total mitigation. Its no exploit its per design. Due remember to check for penetration. I think you can do that math on your own. For a v16 player 663 resist=1% mitigation.

you can get easy 22k physical resistance with 5p ligh 2p heavy.

combined with the 50% damage reduction in cyro + blocking or vampire and cp you can get pretty tanky

I was forgetting it, I know it comes into play but I'm not sure how it's calculated.

I'd guess it's just additive to resistance, but I'd be guessing.

How do you forget that after reading my post?! When I said tooltip says 10k and deals as little as 2k .... That's what I said!
