ESO, WOW, and the future...

I just finished a discussion with a friend from my main guild. We run a small crew, typically 3-5 players on any given night. We were discussing undaunted passives/alliance passives/gear as a carrot on a stick discussion. There was some back and forth of what keeps us in the game. Long story short, we keep each other logging in. We all agreed that cyrodiil was not as much fun as it used to be. Scouring sewers for tel var heists @FENGRUSH ... whats the point? I have several million gold, hundreds of thousands of tel var and AP already, so why do we play? other than for each other? There is the constant XvX that we engage in that makes it tolerable, but what is beyond?

So I simply asked, what other games offer a system that will make me feel satisfied? I recently purchased xcom2, which only allows for 1v1 multiplayer but it is FUN! What about the upcoming Total war: warhammer? amazing looks so far but the multiplayer will be rubbish (maybe.... I hope they focus more on it).. We then discussed WOW. I have never ever played World of Warcraft but my buddy made it seem appealing. You queue up anytime of day for a battleground or an arena and you test your mettle vs theirs. This seemed appealing to me.

Why the frustration? My buddy said ESO would be very different from WOW for me because you aren't in control of your character as much. If you get focused type of thing, you cant dodge roll, ultie, etc, recover. The combat system in this game is second to none basically. Again I have not played WOW and I really don't want to, but what choices do we have here?

Please Zenimax offer some type of arenas/battlegrounds that offer a certain percentage of the populace what they are looking for. Again, I have no desire to play other games as the combat system in this one is second to none. I just want ..... something else......

I spent a majority of the night tonight dueling at my new guilds location... MIGHTY is the guild name .... apparently they are the new legend...... who cares right? but that guild offers more than anything that has ever been sanctioned by ZOS..... i have subscribed since beta and will continue to support the game but i need to know that we are going somewhere .... a carrot on a stick will only get you so far with new players...

Would not a battleground/arena draw players from WOW? I honestly believe it would. Players are looking for something more and with this combat system the sky is the limit. JUST DO IT. PLEASE.

No you cannot have my stuff, but as someone who has subbed from BETA and spent much money on crowns supporting this game, i say this:

If you don't change this soon, i will be unsubscribing to this game..........

For those of you that don't know me.... im sorry. perhaps we can make an acquaintance.

See you on the battle field.

Early Access start in Summer 2016. I hope theres enough progression for at least 500 hour or so.

A lot of people here dont think much of the game. But Id like to clarify something which you mentioned. While you cant dodge roll and you cant ultimate, keep in mind WoW gives you many more skills to work with at the same time. Its action bar is not limited to 6 skills. All your skills are available all the time. You dont have a dodge roll... but each class/spec has several defensive skills of its own. You dont have ultimates but each class has a few powerful skills on longer cooldowns.

Dont be afraid of giving WoW a try. It IS a solid, polished game and it has acumulated a lot of content over the years. Its well itemized. It has good group (not mass) PvP and awesome group PvE. The early areas will look really dated graphics-wise but it gets better as you progress through the expansions.

WOW is not in very good position at the moment. Most of players have left or are semi unactive, cause there isn't much to do, beside re-doing all old content.

BUT, if it's the first time you play WOW, you will have tons of stuff to do and discover. It will be a refreshing experience. it's a polished game, it has lots of flaws (mostly community oriented as players are really spoon fed) but it has lots of strenghts too.

I compare WoW and ESO quite a bit, not only here on the forums, but when talking with other gamers.

The issue really is not adding battlegrounds and arenas in order to attract WoW players. The difference in combat philosophy between WoW and ESO is quite the chasm. If they cannot bridge that chasm, filling Tamriel with battlegrounds and arenas will not bring them over. I crossed that chasm. I know WoW players who I doubt would want to.

If ESO does structured PVP arenas, it should be for ESO players, not to draw in WoW players. The people they need to attract are the people who are tired of the "same old MMO stuff" that you can find in dozens of other MMOs out there. The need to provide PVP content that is more than just another implementation of an MMO trope.

If all they do with PVP arenas, or any other part of ESO for that matter, is what is "expected" per the MMO tropes (edit: so they can pull from WoW), they will have ultimately failed.

Great memories in WOW, and with the new movie coming out, I think it will give people a itch to play it again.

I just wished they update there graphics, ESO does have flaws but its gorgeous.

True for me as well. I'm not going to say WoW is a bad game at all. It does have lots of good points. But after playing ESO where I can block and dodge, going to WoW where arrows will chase you around corners just doesn't cut it.

Ah I agree that WoW does have its good points. I used to love a lot of the zones before Cataclysm hit. Eastern and Western Plaguelands, for one. The zones had a lot of variety and story to them.

I think MMO's have seen their day, and it's now the dawn of cooperative shared world experiences. There's new games on the horizon like The Division which offer a tiny, tiny world but it is full of dynamic events with unlimited replayability. There is a small hub where you meet up with other players, and if you want to form a group, those players can enter your part of the world. Everyone has there own, identical instanced "zone" and only those in their group are allowed to enter.

Each zone has different events going on at any given time, so you head back to the hub, go back into your zone, and everything has updated with new stuff to do. It's a lot of fun with none of this linear completed forever feeling left with nothing else to do until you buy the next DLC or expansion like ESO or WoW.

This model has its own issues. Found that out while playing Warframe. Its all procedurally generated so youd expect unlimited replayability but thats not the case. Instead of learning every new zone or dungeon and getting bored with it due to repetition you learn elements zones and dungeons are generated with. After a while you end up with the same feeling of 'Im tired of doing the same damn thing every day'. The burnout might be slower but its much more all-encompassing in games like that.

Honest mate you would be very dispoint in WoW the whole game is more or less toxic people are very selfish in WoW it is all about get best gear/DPS in that game the are not much of RPG element left in it.
    • WoW you can buy lvl boost so you basically only need to play last expansion so you will more or less lvl alone in all content below the last expansion
    • LFG and LFR is nightmare if you dont enough DPS you get kick out when i play Mists of Pandaria if did not mini 120.000 DPS you got kick and people call each other bad in channel when play in LFR also in LFR Boss fight is very boring you basically spam 1 or 2 button
    • WoW have become very linear with that i mean you have use same talent like everyone and everyone run around basically with same gear
    • You are lucky to join guild many guild have a rule you need to gear up in LFR before you start raid with them
    • PvP we should even start with that one almost all battleground have bots in them and arena is basically only place that are no bots
    • You have pay every month to play WoW
    • Graphic art is cartoon

I have been playing WoW since 2004 and honest the game i start play back in 2004 and which i love is no more i know MMO change mostly to better but in WoW case i feel it change to worst but this what i personal think.

I stop play WoW for people was basically bullying my gf it start in LFG and LFR and it went so make char on same server as we and whisper to her call her name, told her she should never play MMO and so on just for she have disability which make her not react as fast or she miss thing like see where boss sometime go hit next.

Ofc we report this to blizzard but nothing happen we did not get answer from blizzard so just keep go to 1 day i found her sit her at home cry when I come home from work that was the day we decide we stop play WoW.

Played WoW for a solid 4-5 years. It was the only MMO that kept me hooked as long as it did. I played SWTOR for about 6 months (about the same length that ESO was able to keep me going) and a bunch of other MMOs that didn't last as long. I migrated from ESO to FFXIV. I'm really enjoying it, especially the class/job system. This works to my benefit because I'm an altiholic and you don't really need more than one character.

Anyways, I'd say that WoW has enough polish and content to keep someone going for a good long time. The entire systems within the game are developed in a way that make progression feel fluid and realistic. Admittedly, the combat style is a bit.. different.. compared to ESO, but in this regard the combat in ESO is a stand-out from most MMOs out there.

If ZOS can make some changes to things there is no reason ESO can't become a fantastic and engrossing game. It's still got it's training wheels though, and it is sorely lacking in end-game content.. something you would find absolutely no shortage of in WoW.

As quaint as that sentiment is for dealing with jerk-players normally, WoW at this point enables jerks to be--well, jerks. The tools are there and the community is forged, WoW has the stereotype of being the "the game full of elitists" because by this point the game and community as a general whole encourages it.

I'm not saying all WoW players are like this of course, but WoW has certainly lived up to its (in)famous reputation of having a playerbase mostly concerned with FOTM builds and BiS gear.
