@ZOS_GinaBruno please clarify us!
DirectX 11 Upgrade
We have upgraded the ESO graphics engine to be DirectX 11 specific.
You will no longer be able to launch or run the DirectX 9 version of the game.
We will no longer support graphics cards and operating systems that are not compatible with DirectX 11.
This will allow us to implement new graphics features only possible with the removal of DirectX 9, as well as improve the overall performance of the engine.

I saw this news too - but I assume if I can run the update on the PTS I am fine? I know I have an old graphics card but it will run Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 - even though technically it shouldn't.

I hope they wouldn't have made this change if they thought it would stop a lot of players from being able to run the game.

OpenGL should work on most older cards. You should still be able to play.

Open UserSettings.txt in your ESO documents directory, find the line

    SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D11"
    or
    SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D9"
    and replace it with
    SET GraphicsDriver.7 "OPENGL"

    LOL my comp is fine,

but I hope that this will not make the game unplayable for the players who only could run on Direct X 10

that would be really bad...bought the game and one update, sorry guys, now you need direct X 11 compatible....we are sorry

Based on what you have said and what Gina says, I imagine DX 10 is not supported, but that doesn't mean it won't work.

DX11 cards go ALL they wack back to GTX400 series and HD5000 series cards.

That's 2009ish. If you're rocking gear older than that, you have problems other than playing ESO to fix.

@WalkingLegacy as you can see - dx9 card wont work with pts
    but dx10 - works
mby its not intended and dx10 must not work too, dunno

If I remember right, DX10 cards still worked with a lot of DX11 games they just don't troubleshoot DX10 problems for you.

DX10 is vista. DX10 cards are 2008 and older cards. Again, time to upgrade. That is 7 years ago. Companies can't hold the future of a game back because people can't upgrade really old hardware. That's beyond ancient in PC terms, that's prehistoric.

@WalkingLegacy look at the World of Warcraft
when Blizzard made game changes to support and run with DX11, they also add a switch to play in dx9 if you want

but zos just cut-off all players who had older cards

    ridiculous decigion

9800 GT's can run Directx 10.1. 10.1 can do some of DX 11 but not all. I wouldn't be surprised if it will work but you won't be able to turn on all the bells and whistles.

Look how bad WoW engine is now. I mean how dated it is. Game is old. Game was in development in 2000 or so and DX9 was 2002. Game came out 2004? I loved WoW but I left it long ago and one reason was because how dated it is.

ESO came out full swing in DX11 and now we are moving on to DX12 and better openGL.

Do not blame a developer for wanting to keep their game current. I applaud them for moving on and hope they're eyeing DX12 this year too.

    Hello,
I bought game two weeks ago, having awesome time playing it, exploring. getting new friends and im just level 10 by now. Now i find that i got one month left of playing ESO:TU because of forcing DX11 requirement :'(
I saw this news too - but I assume if I can run the update on the PTS I am fine? I know I have an old graphics card but it will run Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 - even though technically it shouldn't.

I got GT220 which have DX10.1. and im very worried.
By now i got stable 30fps, low shadows, high textures on 1920x1080 res and i dont ever never complain, this performance is good, for me.
I can also run games which even shouldn't run (Tomb Raider, BF 3&4, FarCry 3)

I tested (got DX11 in file by default (!)) this with DX9 and OpenGL, it woriking but its laggy as hell and halved fps.

I do some research on wiki and found something about backward compatibility, some games are only DX11 but can be run on DX10 and DX10.1 "Only supports DirectX 11; backward compatibility for DirectX 10 and 10.1 GPUs is provided by DirectX 11."

Finally, can someone confirm that, atfer DLC patch it can be able to run on DX10 and it's going to be DX11 ONLY restricted or DX11 with backward compatilibility features.

PS. Sorry for my english, it's not my native language.

    Cheers,
    Wojo

You're gonna have problems because you're using a GT220. My phone has more GPU crunching ability than this card. I'm sorry DX11 is going to cause you problems but there are some cheap upgrades out there for you.

You should read : Game will crash if DirectX 11 is not installed on the computer

    Aka: Windows XP support dropped.

Uhm i dont think you can play if you dont have a dx11 support. For example windows XP users can't play cuz XP doesnt have dx10/11 support.

no matter what GPU, there must be the list of instructions the card support, in the dxdiag
look at the screenshots in first post
    he told he had DX10.1
