Compared to other popular MMOs are the cost of most of the items in the Crown Store just too much?

People buy it. If no one paid 1000 crowns for an extra 10 slots of inventory, that half price special would become the new base price. If people didn't pay 2000-3000 crowns for mounts, the cost would drop. But enough people do buy such things to put little or no pressure on the current prince model.

There are a few items in the Crown Store & and I stress.... a few that I would actually purchase, but not at the cost they are offering them at! Nord Hero Armor for almost $20.00? Most armor skins in other MMOs are like 1/2 that cost!

I just think that ZOS would get more people purchasing items if they lowered the base price of almost 80% of the ones being listed and then threw in a few sales each month for the slower moving items.

I think some stuff like pets for around 400-500 crowns is a good price!

But one costume for 2000+ isn't.

Yes, I agree that things like pets seem to be an okay price, but $50.00 for motifs, costumes for $20.00 and more just is way too much.

ZOS really needs to start adding more unique to the store items and not re-offering stuff that is just earned in game (i.e. Vamp/WW bites).... Try and be original with what is in your store!

Players are the one to decide whether the price is too high or too low though. If they sell costumes for 1-2k crowns and mounts for even more, it means these things sell. If no one bought them for that much they'd have to drop the prices.

Me, I don't buy anything from the Crown Store short of DLCs, don't plan on buying anything any time soon and therefore have no opinion on it. It does surprise me greatly someone's willing to pay that much for costumes but hey if that's what people want to spend their money on, who am I to judge?

For most things, I don't think so. They need to make money somehow.

I will say that the riding lessons seem ridiculously steep, though. If you wanted to train up a character to the top, it would cost $130.

A bit steep for something that is essentially nothing more than convenience.

I don't really know about motifs since I'm fairly new to the game and don't know how rare/valuable they are - but one costume for 2000 crowns is way too expensive (I'm also aware that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but personally I really disliked that nord hero armour - it looked very generic to me). I've purchased a few of their 3-costume packs for 700-1000, and the royal gown for 1000 which I think are acceptable prices if I really like it.
I hope they release more packs around this price because I'll be a happy customer then.

You do know that no one is forcing you to buy the stuff right?

Doesn't mean we can't discuss and voice our opinion about the pricing.

The problem is, they cant really test these things. They come up with arbitrary numbers and they pretty much have to stick with them. If they priced an item at 1k crowns, and then decided to halve the price they wouldnt be able to raise the price back again if the item didnt start selling more than twice as well. Theyd have a sh*tstorm on the forums.

As for the discounts... Theres this business model where you keep the prices rather high on purpose and then organize sales (not regularly but often) and thats how you make most of your money. People see a bargain and cant resist even if they dont really need the thing. They go 'well, finally a reasonable price, now I can actually buy some stuff that isnt overpriced' and splurge.

It's insane 2k for the Thieves DLC or 2k for a costume.... HMMMMMM which will I buy?

I splurged on black friday and got the buy one get one (50% off and bought $100 worth of crown) and still have about 15,000 crowns burning a hole in my pocket but I refuse to spend it if it won't help me. I already bought a mount and I am walking around in beautiful armor.... so why pay for a costume?? Drives me nuts.

200 crowns for potions is to high ? 1000 crowns for 5 EXP scrolls is to high ??? 900 crowns for a special horse mount is to high ???

Yes some stuff such as the nightmare horse 2500 crowns may sound like much but again the crown store is a cash shop and that and ESO+ is ZOS way of making money.

End of the day ZOS is treating ESO as a business which it is to them they have to make money other wise they wont be able to pay the guys such as Gina or Eric to program the game cause to them this is also there job.

Seriously this is what this post is sounding like that you want ZOS to give away all there work either for no profitable price or for free.

    Ok, firstly, calm down.

Second, I meant the costume at 2k.

Thirdly, I subscribe, I buy crowns every month, I bought the Hero's Guide to ESO at $150, I've bought statuettes, books etc. I have given money and supported them throughout. Don't assume without facts. I just feel it's a slap in the face to put up an iconic costume people have been waiting years for but exclude fans and supporters by setting the price too high.

...Also, yes. Even 1000 crowns can be expensive to someone.

    I think you're overreacting/misunderstanding something here.

From what I've noticed no one here has complained about the general price of the crown shop being steep. This thread is about the nord hero costume in particular - which is one single costume for 2000 crowns (compare to dlc price of 2500, or getting 6 costumes for the price of 1400 etc) which doesn't even look unique or special (in my humble opinion, seems I'm not the only one who thinks that though).
It just doesn't warrant the price for this particular costume, that's all.

The nightmare horse is 2500 crowns and players still buy it and it is just a re-skin of a horse.

Again no one is forcing you to buy anything it is just a costume I got it and I don't get any special bonuses no nothing it's just something to put over the less than stellar race armor. The most likely reasons for it to be 2000 either though other cosmetic stuff already int he store cost more is 1 it is well know from the trailer and every body knows trailer/cover gear is always the most used thing for marketing and 2 some one spent hours to days to weeks working on the design and coding for it and pretty sure ZOS has to pay them to you know make it.

If you really want a reduce price then wait there bound to have some special sale along with the other 2 hero armors at some point.

I am not wanting ZOS to give anything away. My point is their pricing scheme is too damn high! If they adjusted it to balance with what other MMOs are offering of similar items and ran sales each month on slower moving items the increase in volume of sales would more than out way the reduction of prices.

    Heck,

They'd get me buying a few items each month, but the way the prices are right now I will take a pass.

A little confused by this. The price is the same whether you sub or not. You're given 1500 crowns a month but no discounts and new items are added every month. If you don't spend much/any crowns then, yeah, you'd have some saved. If you buy items every month to support the game then you have only what you're given.

If I had known the costume would be 2k, or even if it was up longer than 4 days, I might, *might* have saved for it.

    No warning of price.
    Exclusive for 4 days.
Same price as DLC next month.
Can only be bought with £15/$20 crown pack.
Costs more than month subscription crowns.

By the way, I posted in the wrong thread and edited my post before you posted your reply... :p

That no one is forcing us to buy anything is beyond obvious. It's not something you should constantly remind us of. We know that by default - at the same time that's not any kind of good argument either.
I still don't understand how you use that as a counter-argument against people who simply discuss a price. No one is complaining that they feel forced to buy it (at least I haven't noticed it, I might be wrong though) - so why do you keep repeating that line? :|
Also my personal feeling towards this costume was that I wouldn't even want to spend 500 crowns on it because I really didn't like anything about it at all. Especially when I can get way better costumes that are available in the shop (and also at better prices, if that is important).
No, I had no idea that trailer/cover gear "is always the most used thing for marketing" and I'm sure there are thousands of people out there that don't have a clue about this either, lol. And honestly I wouldn't care what a trailer had if I simply didn't like the fashion style of the attire in question - which is the case here. It being in a trailer doesn't make it more special to me.
