PvP trolls almost godlike

I went to PvP map for the first time since the console launched. I thought that the players were pretty much equal, as far as armor, weapons and skills go. So a level 38 player would be kind of evenly matched with a level 10 player. I could not kill a frost troll. It was on fire, and I could not knock out more that 10% of it's health. I know they regenerate and are supposed to have a weakness for fire, but I could not tell. I did not do much better again NPCs that were protecting a mine. I could barely see them and several, (could not count them as they were too far away) of them were range attacking me and doing damage when I was behind cover. I had no way of attacking them without being killed. Is there something I need to know before trying again? Kind of frustrating and having to respawn far away is no fun either.
Bonus frustration: Is there a trick to resurrecting someone? My friend died and the soul gem icon next to the resurrect prompt at the bottom was red. I had plenty of soul gems of different sizes. I could not resurrect my friend, yet a kindly faction ally resurrected me.

You need grand souls gems to revive in pvp.

Have you got an actual build or are you just random skills thrown together?

If you are new, you should not attempt to take out a resource by yourself, it is far too challenging. While some top-notch individuals can do it with the right builds, it's not something an average player can accomplish. You'll want to group up with your friends (or complete strangers, let's not be picky) if you want to take those out! As far as the frost troll thing goes, you may need to look into your build a bit, or possibly level up some (remember, the scaling system isn't perfect, it's just better than nothing). You might also need to practice fighting. Can you usually take out trolls your level in other zones? If not, practice on them first, and when you've figured out a good build, skill set, and overall strategy, you'll have a better foundation for doing the PvE in Cyrodiil, or maybe even start fighting other players!

Don't get frustrated. When you first start out you don't have practice, endless resources for high level gear and enchants, skill points or champion points. It'll get easier. Chat people up and learn, there's no handbook for ESO and it's a lot to learn.

There is a huge difference between gear and gear. The battle scaling we have nowadays is nothing like that of a pre-IC as in that it actually takes into account the gear quality.

If you are level 38 but still wear level 14 gear, battle scaling will not help you much. If you want to compete, you need on-level gear or at most a couple levels lower, and of decent quality (as in color, green or better). That is especially true for weapons (should be blue or better), which define all damage output you do, irrespective of source (class skills, weapon skills, guild skills, etc.).

Battle scaling is also no "iWin button", you need to have defensive skills available. As to the resources, you will only be able to solo those if you have good selfhealing, a gapcloser to get to them fast (they have much larger range than you), optimally some defense skill like defensive stance from 1h&s line and a plan.

You can crosscheck your fitness for purpose with the following numbers: 20k health, at least 25k of your primary resource, 2k weapon damage unbuffed. These may even be a bit on the low side for a resource.

Some of those death recap tips are actually helpful: you may need some crowd control on your back bar if you go against multiple enemies. In general, if you want to solo in Cyrodiil, the very least to have done is having experienced some questing/pve in you silver zone (veteran ranks) and trained a bit.

Don't let the trolls discourage you, continue asking questions and try to improve a bit. All of the morons up there posting derogatory crap have started the same way as you - laying in the dirt and asking themselves wtf.

I wouldn't say only "top-notch" individuals can do it. I can solo cap a resource just fine and I'm probably an above-average player at best. You just have to hit the resource the right way is all.

Start off by killing the guard and mender at the side of the tower, drawing them away from the mage and the central guards. Then use whatever ranged attack you have to kill the mage guard (if you can't get the Mage guard in a few attacks don't be afraid to move out of ranged to heal and continue).

Then all that's left is to AoE bomb and CC the guards on the flag (kill the menders first). Make sure to keep some heals on you for when your health inevitably starts dropping. If you have to, just kill the menders, retreat to heal, then kill the honour guards.

Don't think anyone can outright take a resource alone, you'll just take too much damage. Trick is to pick away at the key NPC groups individually, and then just take the flag.

Oh, and gear is, as with everything, pivotal.

You can definitely take resources the slow way, but I was assuming OP meant the "guns blazing" method. ;-) And it is definitely possible to take on resources this way! But that's for the top-notch kind of players I was talking about. Above average players can, as you say, do it via a more careful, methodical approach.

I went to cyrodill and just ran around exploring at about that same level. I used all purple gear that was close or at the same level I was. As a sourc I didn't have any issues taking out Giants, mammoths and trolls. They weren't easy but you should be able to do it. At v16 and now they just drop like flies. I will say I had trouble with those whisp mothers at that level. But definitely a fun exploring for the first time where everything is v14. Made ok gold for that level from resources and chests and drops. Of course I would consider it a miserable amount of gold now days where you can get 100k a day grinding ic sewers but was good fun at the time.

Don't let the as-holes stop you from posting on this forum. Although most people will make snide comments, some of what they say is actually helpful if you'll take the time to wade through their sewage.

Trolls are tougher than the standard monster. The graphics around their health bar look different. Get gear that is your level before entering Cyrodiil and work on skill rotations. Also, go a little old school and pull a monster to a safer location to fight, which can help you from attracting adds. Lastly, relax and enjoy the game. :)

Don't worry man, you'll improve in no time and soon slap those Trolls silly.

On a side note; How come when people discuss something about this game on the forums, there's always a few who think they're asking for nerfs?

Make a topic, write paragraphs basically asking for advice and as soon as you say something about getting killed by this, or that, people jump out at you like a bunch of Nerf-Bandits. "Heeeeeeeeeey buddy! did you just say nerf? did you? huh?! I could have sworn you said nerf!"when nobody even said the word!

I hope you nerf-fanatics (who actually hate nerf topics, yet they mention the word more than those asking for nerfs...) don't wake up with the word "Nerf" stuck in your heads each and every morning....

@fractalknight It sounds to me you are 38 using gear you have found. This is fine for PVE questing, but it's not going to be upto the usual standard people who are in pvp use. And it's not going to be pretty when battle levelled. I suggest being able to craft gear will make it much easier for you. The easiest way is to join a guild, learn the ropes of pvp. If you already can craft sets I suggest making an upto date set for your level before going back in. If you don't have a guild you run with checking out the recruitment sub forums at the bottom of the main forum directory is a good place to start.

Since I'm on PC I can't help, but if you specify your console and server, perhaps some kind soul will be kind enough to craft some nice, leveled set gear for you, assuming you need it.

I thought you were talking about some player when reading the title. :(
But yeah, don't get discouraged - the more you play your class, the more you'll get used to it, to its strengths and weaknesses.
Set gear (on lvl or close to your lvl so Battle Leveling doesn't ruin your stats) will help a lot too.
At first try to take resources with a small group of players, and, like mentioned above, prioritize targets. And pan your camera around, because you can get jumped on the flag by enemy players while fighting the guards.

no wonder, PVP is much much harder than the PVE rest of the game. Especially, as there are players out there, who have very strong builds (skills and gear). And frost trolls, they are hard to kill if you are at lower level, or if you are a newbie to the game.

I would recommend googling some good builds (google: Sypher or Deltia or Alcast + ....(your class name - for example Dragonknight) + build), so for example google: Sypher dragonknight build. These guys make very good videos, with lots of helpful hints and tips how to play and how to create a strong build.
Also it is not so good to put your attribute points in both magicka and stamina, in case you did so. It is better to choose one of them and adjust your skills according to that.
You are able to respecify your attribute points (healt, stamina, magicka) and also your skills, if you would need. It costs some in-game gold, but it is many times worth it. There are certain places on your map (depending on which alliance you play) to do so. Here is where to do it: http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/163421/how-can-i-redistribute-skill-points-in-elder-scrolls-online

It sounds like you'll want to check your build setup. It could be that you aren't running set items which can increase everything about your character. By set item, I mean either dropped or crafted sets like Hundings, Night Mothers, Seducer and many others. If your not running 2 sets, your really hurting your game play, not so much in PVE but really in PVP. In PVE you can get by without them, but not in PVP against NPC's or other players who are geared out. The best thing to do is to check your items and get setup with two different sets. If your magicka based, Seducer/Magnus are great options for crafted gear, if your Stamina based DPS, then go with Hundings/Night Mothers. If your more of a tank, then try out a tanking and dps set, something like Hist bark, Lamae, Whitestrake as the main set and then go with 4 items from Hundings, Night Mothers or Ashen Grip. These sets will give your character more power to be able to survive tough fights.

If your on PC NA, toss me an email and I can help you out with these. If not, try to find a crafter in a guild your in for help with these sets.
