what's up with this animation cancelling?

    My problem with animation cancelling is not necessarily animation cancelling itself, but in the fact that not all classes or weapon styles are evenly distributed to take advantage of animation cancellation. Templar is perhaps the most difficult class to animation cancel because everything is a long cast or channel. This means the class is reliant upon its ability to actually deal damage based on the tooltip, whereas many other classes DPS is built into the animation cancellation system that exists.

    I actually like animation cancelling in the game. DCUO has it and I believe it makes that game a lot more lively and entertaining. It makes the game more skillful. The problem arises in ESO because not everyone can cancel as easily and this creates obvious inequities. This is also one of many reasons why I can't find it in myself to use jabs for anything, pve or pvp. Steel tornado is a far better aoe, and for single target I would much rather use something like wrecking blow or executioner both of which can be animation cancelled and don't have a faux cc that gives your enemy cc immunity.

    My point essentially is that the real issue is the inequity of skills. Templar is completely reliant on cast times and cooldowns, has major problems with cc immunity and fake cc's, no mobility, questionable defenses, and the saving grace of having one skill: Breath Of Life. Templar is the only class with the requirement of play how you want, as long as it is a healer. I admit this is hyperbole, and I will even admit that there are good Templars out there who can trudge along in the current situation. I would argue if they were playing another class they would perform significantly better. A powerful templar player is the best player in the game, period. Templar is easily interrupted and has very long cast times, channels, and sluggish motion. If you are being beat by a Templar it is because their Timing is vastly superior to yours, or their gear far outclasses yours. It is as simple as that. By way of example I will try to compare. In boxing as well as martial arts in general there are essentially three core principles involved in landing a technique: Speed, Distance, and Timing. A very skillful opponent may not necessarily be fast but they have a mastery of covering the right ground at the right moment at the right time. Templar is horrible at Speed and Distance, therefore all they have is Timing which is reliant purely on player skill and internet connection. Good luck Templars.

    In summary, I have no problem with animation cancellation whatsoever. The problem I have is the way its efficacy is being distributed through the classes. As a side note, Dragon Knight doesn't do so well on the Speed issue either. All things being equal if they wish to retain this paradigm, DK and Templar need to be absolutely tankier in order to (forgive the boxing reference) rope-a-dope the Sorcs and NB's in PVP.

    The fix is so simple, just change the global cooldown of moves to match the animation times why don't they just do that?

    Yep! If zeni could just put a 5 sec cool down timer to each ability.

    Please...please no more cooldowns. I like this game because its combat isn't like EVERY OTHER MMO. Every cooldown that's been added has just brought my responsive gameplay to a halt. I'll start heavy attacking, turn to another enemy to cast something and I'm STILL heavy attacking the friggen thing behind me.
    The fix is so simple, just change the global cooldown of moves to match the animation times why don't they just do that?

    I think they're trying without telling us. I can feeeeel it with every update. I suddenly can't throw a frag, executes aren't hitting, heavy attacks keep charging well after I've let go of the button, ultimates aren't going off, roll dodges have these little pauses before being able to block, and potions get pressed but aren't used.

    this "unintended mechanic" splits ESO players to 2 groups
    PVP players: you can do ani cancelling, you are professional PvPer and you can join this high end pvp guild
    or : you play the game as it was designed, you see all the animation of everything, because that, you dont deserve to be in this "high end PvP guild"
    PVE (where the price is huge)
    1) you can ani cancel everything perfectly, then you are eligible to join this PvE guild where you meet other ani cancellers and together you form the trials guild that have all faction top players animation cancellers making the trials leaderboards animation cancellers exclusive.
    2) you cant use ani cancelling, *** of, go train on this unintended mechanic and come again, you play the game as it was designed thus you dont deserve to see your character name on leaderboard
    3)trials is just an example, everything applies.
    thing is this splits the community

    Almost every point in your entire post in incorrect.

    This game runs on a lowly PC. I recently upgraded to a behemoth of a gaming machine and there is no change in the performance of the game and ZERO effect on lag.

    Anyone with any knowledge of online gaming knows that the hardware has very little impact on the network performance of the game.
