Why play anything other than a NB?

Apparently, nightblades have been pretty much the same since console release, which for a game resembling an MMO, is quite a while for a class not to see any drastic changes, and if you look at other classes, a NB should certainly pull the better numbers against any of them. Why would you play any other class? Or am I missing something?

Also, it should go without saying, but this is assuming both players are equally matched, both in skill and level. I'm reminded of another post I read in which people were talking about how they pick up a restoration staff and are better healers than Templars. Anything is better than the other if the other sucks, obviously. Same goes here.

I have vet 16 full gear of both a sorc and a nightblade. Im a pc transfer And have lead a fairly large guild. I have a descent amount of exp in pvp. As a night blade I will tell you the secret to literally ruin other nightblades. The big secret is use detect pots. Sorcs are so much stronger the nb in pvp in my exp so far. Well played dks are equally strong. Nb do have high dmg but if you pop a detect pot they have extremely weak defense.

3 reasons why most ppl rerolled or created NB:

    1. Cuz "Nightblade" sounds incredibly cool. Just say it: Nightblade. NIGHTBLADE. We're Tamriel's Ninjas for crying out loud: a mix between Mage (Illusion) and Assassin (Daggers, Sneak)
    2. Bandwagoners. Now that the NB has been fixed, a lot of ppl joined the Assassination-train. They wanna win easy fights by making use of the stealth damage passives a NB possesses. Stealth, Ambush, Surprise Attack and dead. And IC didn't exactly help reduce the number of them: it's friggin' NB CANDY LAND :p
    3. Nerfing of other classes. With the DK brought down and the Templar becoming more and more of a mess, ppl simply abandon these classes and go for the ones that aren't nerfed. Pretty much the same reason as number : bandwagoners, but in this case, bandwagoners forced by ZOS' unnecessary nerfing of the classes

@Tryxus Dragonknight sounds way more awesome than Nightblade, just saying. I mean, you get two sides and you put dragons on one side it doesn't matter what you put on the other side, dragons win. Leap is definitely the most awesome ultimate in the game, and reflective scales is similarly cool as f***.

Honestly, I'd prefer sorcs to nightblades simply because I love mages in fiction and I love to play one whenever possible (though I made the mistake of starting with a dragonknight in ESO because in most MMOs sorcerer-type classes end up gimped and I've been hurt too many times in the past. It's all good though, I made a stamknight and ended up with basically sypher's build except for one skill that I have which differs from his).

It's undeniable though that in terms of PvP, nightblades will win out for most players because stealth offers a level of versatility and mobility and an advantage against other players that's honestly hard to give up once you've started. That coupled with their insanely high damage also gives players the chance to kill others before they can even react, which is legitimately satisfying gameplay despite some people's outraged claims against it since it gives the illusion that you're such a skilled player that others can't compare to the point that they can't even fight back. It's about making yourself feel big compared to others by stomping them into the mud, which is what a lot of competition is about, if you really think about it.

Nb might have the best survivability (potential) in 1vX and open world pvp vs other stam classes, that doesnt nessesarily mean any of the other stamina classes is at a disadvantage, its still a matter of build vs build and how the individual player uses it. A stam templar with the right build can overcome a stam nb with the wrong build, this goes for all classes and builds ofc. But yea, for open world soloing id go with nb simply because of shadow image and dark cloak.

I'll admit to rolling a PvP stam NB just for fun. I have to tell you having played a decent Templar healer as my main for 2 years and then launching a lvl 10 NB, well... it's like driving a dependable truck all your life and than getting behind the wheel of a fast sports car. It's amazing to be able to slip in and out of fights instead of just living a little bit longer. In the end it's not for me, but I'm going to have a blast in mean time.

Are we talking PVP, PVE, both? Then Magicka or Stamina?

In terms of DPS output, Stamina is behind Magicka for PVE currently, with the notable expection of Stamina DK. Magicka NB is below Magicka Sorc and DK because it's rotation doesn't trigger Molag Kena with normal weaving and the don't have ultimates as useful as Standard or Overload.

Templar's are the "best" healers because their resource restoring. Any class can get the Magicka restoring skills from Destro, Restro, or Undaunted. However only Templars can restore large amounts of Stamina. Even if the DPS don't need it. Highly likely the tank will.

For PVP both Stamina DK's and NB's are really good, and that has a lot to do with there being no physical resistance star for CP, while there is a physical damage increase. Stamina based builds have a large advantage in PVP because they are more durable against CC, and with enough CP, respond to it with the passive Unchained. However Magicka Sorcs and NB's are also doing well in PVP.

Not sure where you get this Nightblades are the best at everything, in all modes. It's certainly not the case.

Thats the same exact logic that made me roll a magicka dk as my one and only character instead of a sorc. "No way theyre going to let sorcerers be anything but the worst class. Video game developers hate pure wizards. Ill go with a flame mage dk and be powerful that way."
Well I'm not too regretful, except Maelstrom Arena being shamefully easy for sorcs and NB. Dragon Fire Scales alone is worth the price of admission, and Deep Breath, Igneous Shields, Standard of Might, Take Flight are great compliments to the offerings from the Destro/Resto/Mages Guild lines.

As for NB, theyre literally the worst class. If they cant kill you in the initial burst, they lose. Its pretty shameful when I can AoE spam you out of cloak and riddle your body with elemental damage until your soul leaves your body. I dont even bother with detection pots or the bad morph of Mages Light or Flames of Oblivion or that terrible Support skill. If a NB can escape the AoE spam, then he was a little effeminate kitten and not worth my time. Go lick your wounds behind a tree, cowards.

NBs are nowhere near as OP as some of u think. I bet many of those who are so sure that NBs are OP have never tried to play one and just assume they are being beaten by NBs cos NBs are op, instead of considering maybe what they are doing wrong themselves.

And that's just PvP. If we're talking PvE then Stamplar and Magicka DKs have the best sustained dps in group content. Templars make the best tank/healers (and pure healers, ofc), DKs make the best pure "I will not die!" tanks and Sorcs have the best burst single target dps and out perform NB in Maelstorm Arena too.

I have 3 VR16 characters. NB is my main (first char created and the one I leveled up first), but since I returned to ESO in April 2015, I have played my Sorc and DK way more, and my Sorc has all my best achievements (vDSA, vMA, Emperor etc). Why?

    1) I wanted to try something different.
    2) I discovered I am actually quite bad at playing NB and Sorc suits my personal taste and skill much more.

tldr: play for fun, NBs aren't even that OP anyway.

Mostly because cloak has been fixed people have jumped on the NB bandwagon since I've notice coming back from the game. Yes they are easily countered so all the qq is kind of pointless I've gone into this countless of times in other threads. Its just flavor of the month and really fun class to play in general. Not op but very fun. Just about everyone likes it once they try it. They were severely under powered for a good 6 months after launch so now that their viable its fun for people.

Stam Nb is one of the worst class in PvE so if they nerf them in PvP. the PvE community has to suffer for it again. so tired to see posts about nerfing NB when they aren't actually. they shine in PvP like they should, they are a assassin. if a assassin can't assasanate then just delete the class.
p.s. my stam dk does more dps then my stam nb ;)

Stamina DKs are indeed better DPS in PvE, but that doesn't mean Stamina NBs are "one of the worst class in PvE". They still beat Stamplars and Stamsorcs by a long shot in terms of both survivability, sustain and damage output.

You might be tired og seeing posts wanting to nerf NBs, I understand that, but I am also tired of reading weak arguments for why NBs should be so potent compared to other classes. They are top of the food chain at the moment, which is the same as saying they are OP. Now that doesn't mean they should be nerfed. I would be perfectly fine with my Stamplsr recieving major buffs to become just as goos aswell. If NBs should be able to assassinate players like you say, then templars should be able to outheal any damage, right? Because you are the assassins and we are the healers. Flawless logic. ;)

stamplar does do decent dps in PvE though and for survivalbity beter as NB. all NB has for class heal is mark. which only heals when he actually kills something. ofc there is the ult but so does the templar has a healing ult. only problem templars have is their aedric spear ult..... sure the cost in ultimate is really low but it isn't mutch beter then a normal spammable skill...
as for stam sorc, i do agree this one really does need to be adressed because now it's more a niche build then something else

It would be terrible if all 12 of my characters were nightblades, or indeed all of one other class.

Diversity, enjoyment, trying out other builds, a desire to progress at least one character of each class, those are all good reasons not just to play a nightblade. Plus a complete lack of interest in PvP, of course.
