I think I know why MMOs are not meant for consoles...

So my area was under threat of tornadoes earlier and I had to go to a safer location due to there being no safe place in my home if a tornado hit. I brought my PS4 with me just in case. Apparently the PS4 does not like being unplugged when its touch-sensativeness turned it on while I was unhooking it because now it does not work at all and I have to repair it thus forcing me to miss playtime in ESO. Considering PC players have Console controls I am of the opinion that perhaps this game should NOT be played on Consoles anymore because Sony and Microsoft produce craptastic machines...

So with that said I guess I will see you all when I fix my stupid PS4. Not much point coming here if I can't even play the game am I right? lol

I have a PS3 that has had a nonfunctional DVD drive for ages. Can't replace it. If I have an issue on my PC, easy fix. Consoles annoy me.

This isn't the kind of title I'd want to play with PC controls. I played Skyrim on the PS3 so I went for this on PS4. Of course it's different now lol but I've been playing since console launch which as you are no doubt aware was before PC got Console controls.

My particular county was actually never hit by the tornadoes, but the threat was real. Since my home has no safe haven whatsoever from a tornado I took my PS4 with me to a safer place. This would ensure it, too, was in a safer place. However, the process of transporting it is what broke it because while I was unhooking it it came on and it was still on when I unplugged it which I believe to be the cause of the whole incident.

There seems to be a rather serious design flaw this time with the newest Sony console and it has to do with the internal power transformer. The last console I had with an internal system was back in the 80s and it was problematic. I don't understand why they would use such an antiquated design.

Both consoles have this protection from surges but it seems both were not created equal this time around. There are lots of forum posts out there on this issue with PS4 and not a lot of them have solutions other than sending in for repair. This is unfortunate and would seem to be a huge flaw. Moving it around may have shocked it somehow. As for your labeling both consoles, I have had no problems with Xbox and only a few connection issues. Because the Xbox one power supply is external there is less chance of this happening and if it did, its an easy replacement. I had a surge and power loss a few weeks ago. The console wouldn't turn on. I just unplugged the power brick for a few moments and it was fine.

While it is touch sensitive it isn't that difficult to avoid the button.... so no sympathy... but that doesn't mean mmos can't be played on console... it honestly runs better than many computer kids try to use for these games.. only a minority have omfg leet machines that insult the consoles abilities

Also try starting it in safe mode... that fixed my ps3 not turning on a few times...

I see what you mean OP. I played all the elder scrolls games on Xbox. Never played any pc game really at all prior. But since eso console release was post poned and people can play on pc and than transfer their account to console. That's what I planned on doing. But after experiencing the game on pc and what you can do with pc games such as mods/add ons etc. I built a 4.5k pc rig only after a month of eso release and I am not turning back lol. Their will still be some games I would prefer to play on console but pc is so much better. Luckily the Xbox one, ps4 and wii u I have will still be used since my wife and kids are still in denial like I was that pc is master race

Consoles are cool, still have a ways to go to catch up to the pc, you have no flexability with a console. But they do have some great games and with the merging of social media and being able to pick up where you left off with games and movies regardless of what platform you played on is going to be the norm in the not to far future, I have owned all the consoles in the early years, do not own one now maybe in a couple of more generations, but that is just my personal taste.

There is a reason Sony clearly says not to unplug the device without shutting it down properly. Sounds to me like you unplugged it while it was in the booting process and likely corrupted data- this can even happen to a computer if you do something like that. I don't consider this particularly a design flaw, more like common sense... never unplug any electronic device, computer or PC, while it is booting or shutting down as corrupted data in bios or file system is likely.

Anyways OP, if you want to take the risk, remove your hard drive and format it before sending it in for repairs. This will definitely void your warranty, but will save you 150 dollars if it works. I only have anecdotal evidence of this working, so I would do some more research before doing this.

MMOs are not meant for consoles because they ruin the PC experience.

MMO's are not great for console because it's a different type of experience and a different type of gamer.

Speaking generally most console gamers have a shorter attention span, do not enjoy long tedious grinds, and dbeing forced or otherwise encouraged to play parts of the game they don't like.

And generally console players don't appreciate the bat your head against wall difficulty.

If you are a console play and the above does not apply you then you are not position of population I was referring to as generally

i disagree there are enough people playing hard games on console just look at the old ninja gaiden and the darksouls series

But this type of problem is not unique to consoles. On 3 or 4 occasions I've had problems with my PC which meant either certain games or the entire machine were unplayable for days at a time (once for almost 2 weeks).

Fortunately no MMO I know of is made so you have to play absolutely every day. ESO certainly isn't.

Not to mention FFXI debuted on console and pre-dates WoW. FFXIV, DCUO, and Neverwinter all have large console communities as well. Ultimately MMOs are just marketed on console less, and that is likely because of the console's lifespan and inability to upgrade hardware. Not because of some generalizations about how they like to game.

A.) Tornado. But this has been covered already.
B.) FFXIV, Warframe and DCUO work just fine on console. And a few of those have even larger player bases than their PC counterparts.
C.) ESO screwed up with text chat and their player marketplace--that's why this game sucks on console.
