Afraid to ask for help

Vet 16 with enough silk to craft about 3 pieces of the set I'd like.

My issue is I'm a little nervous asking for help from a crafter in-game. How do I know they won't just up and leave with the mats I trade them.
If something like that happens is it a reportable offense and would I be able to get the material back?

Does anyone have any horror stories of this happening or am I fretting over nothing

It can happen, you really just need to find someone you trust to make it for you. not sure what Zenimax does about things like that.

I'll be super honest, in my experience, the older the player sounds, the more likely you can trust them with the mats. Theres no real repercussion if they run off with the mats, you technically gave them away. I have heard plenty of stories of someone running off with the mats and just blocking the other person, but the same could be said of vampire bites and such, you only ever hear about the horror stories and not the success ones. Find a guild who has a trusted crafter they use and hope for the best.

I crafted 5 heavy for a stranger once. We met at the set station. He gave me the money for the temps I was using, plus the material for one piece. I crafted the piece, double checking that I got the trait and style right. Then I traded them the completed piece for the mats to craft the second one. And so on, until I traded them the final piece for my payment.

Doing it this way, if something goes wrong, you are never out more than one piece worth of mats.

I've crafted gold glyphs for a guy on forums before. He was a little hesitant, but ended up trusting me and sent me his kutas. If you're on ps4 NA I can craft stuff for you, but i mostly specialize in light armor, some medium and some heavy. Other than that, a guild member is a great option.

Ask your Guild Master for a recommendation. If you are in an established guild the GM won't risk their reputation by sending you to a thief.

This is why I have religiously been learning traits on my crafter and saving for the motifs I like, so I don't need to enlist the help of someone else. I'd like to try out TBS, but I want to be the one crafting it.

Just ask in the chat of your guild, and if one of the officers is online who can craft their usually a good bet, as they've been deemed trustworthy by the GM.

I did that once, send about 400 silk to the person. I started to get nervous after about 15 mins. Then the lady sent me a pm all embarrassed that she could only craft 1 piece for me (she was a day off in finishing the last of the research on the other two pieces I needed). So she asked if I would be on a bit later. She sent me back my mats, and told me she would get her husband to pm when he got on. He logged in about 30 mins later, pm me, and crafted the last two pieces I needed. Then we sat in the crafting area joking around. You can meet some nice ppl that way.

I'm kinda in a different situation myself as a crafter, I stopped crafting for people because they just don't want to pay for my time, and it's just not worth spending 2 hours on making a set because the person just don't know what they want and then getting a 1-2k tip just doesn't make it nearly worth the time for me, and most likely many others too.

1-2 hours?! I'd have given up at the 10-min mark and just crafted them a basic one-size-fits-all set like Julianos/Ravager/Whitestrake. When I (only once so far) ask someone else to craft for me, I make sure I have absolutely everything sorted before even asking and it gets done in less than 10 mins.

There are several Trading Communities that are great for this sort of thing. I am in 3 of them (can not remember the exact names off the top of my head) but there are people on there advertising crafting services all of the time. Look for their name in past posts and if they seems active they probably will not want to tarnish their name by ripping someone off. Anyone can post on the community wall and it only takes one bad comment " XXXXXXXXX took my7 mats and ran! Do NOT trust him" and he will lose his income. They are usually pretty good about it. Yes there will always be *** wanting to take from others, but most will treat you right......especially guys that make their gold primarily from providing crafting services to others

I agree here. I usually am able to craft the item ahead of time and trade it at the same time. Keep looking and you should be able to find someone to help. If I wasn't on PC I would.

Guild member assistance aside, what you CAN do in order to safeguard yourself is find someone who can craft what you need. Ideally, they will have materials on hand. Open trade to show you have the materials (that you will give them afterward). They craft your gear. Then open another trade window and give them the mats, plus whatever tip agreed upon, in exchange for the crafted gear. Done.

You cant be sure. Most people are honest about it all. But yes you can run into the one "jerk" who steals your mats. The way I look at it is that it is all just pixels at the end of the day and it doesnt hurt me really. But I look at all aspects of gaming that way. My advice? Just go for it. Ask around as per the previous posts and if you get ripped off chalk it up as "you met a really good thief in a game"....

There's always a risk of getting ripped of if you're giving materials to some random zone guy. People seem even more dishonest on console, from what I've heard from friends. I doubt you get help from customer support, getting the stuff back lol.

If you however get someone from a trading guild, that provides craft service and is a ranked seller/trader, you wont get ripped of. It's 100% safe, because they have their reputation and ties to the community. But these are people that wants to get paid for the job properly, they wont settle for pocket money. Here on PC is something like 5k a piece if you want to hire a crafter for 8 or 9 trait stuff with all styles.

If you want it cheap or free without any risk of robbery, you need friends or like a normal guild where people help each other out. There are sometimes nice people in trade guild doing for free, but again make sure they actually have a longer history in the guild and didn't join yesterday, than you might get scammed.

    Sad state of the game.
The community relies on a trust network.
    No trust ....no community.
I was proud of this community at the start of the game, because people bent over backward to help out and be nice.

It is in ZOS interests to absolutely ensure the trust network does not get broken...ever.
If they don't care about this trust, then they don't care about the community that's fundamental to a healthy MMO.
Same reason PVP goes to crap when you allow spy trolling. IMO
Might as well shout against the wind though really.
    ZOS just don't get it.
