A Plea To the Community During The Upcoming Free To Play Weekend

Hi all,

As we should all hope, the Free To Play weekend will be a huge success and we will be seeing a lot of fresh faces around Tamriel. This is just a note to say, be nice to the noobs. Be generous, offer advice, trade mats and craft good gear for our incoming brother and sisters. Group up and lead expeditions into delves for group instances. Be the best ambassador for the game you can be! I plan on creating a new alt just so I can play with my brother. For many new players, this is their only chance to experience what ESO is like and we are the ones who bear the responsibility of representing the player community.

That said, I also declare carebear season in PVP. ;-)

Edit: The free weekend starts Thursday at 3 AM for PC/Mac/XB1 and runs to Monday, December 14th (It seems that it may end at 3 AM on Monday)

The guild l am in has already made plans to welcome new players - as we did when the last mass arrival happened.

I'll probably do what I always do when running into a new character while hunting Worms & Guts in Deshaan.

I'll inevitably notice a new player running up to a World Boss location. So I'll go in and watch them duke it out with the Boss.

If they do well, I usually gift them with some Mats or a low level enchanted weapon I made.

If they're doing their best but the fight is not going in their favor, I'll step in and grease the Boss for them. This usually saves them from death, and they get all of the experience anyway (because I'm waaaaay over-leveled for the area).

Which ever scenario is the one happening, I'll then give them a short "Blessing" emote, then ride off like Zorro on my mighty Tesselated Guar. Just a mysterious benefactor they met in the wilds of Tamriel.

It's just what I do.

That's cool - it's like setting up tables for clubs and frats/sororities in the common area during rush at college. Everyone gets a big brother/sister and has to swallow a goldfish.

Ahhh, yes. As a healer myself I usually just shoot a BOL their way. 1 BOL fills their health right up!

Some guy did this for me months ago when I was fighting the world boss troll on the northern coast of Greenshade. He showed up just as the troll killed me. He raised me, waited for me to get my bearings and we killed it together. Tried to get his name to whisper a thank you but he rode away before I could. Anyways it made my day. Will never forget it and I try to help people in game myself. A game supposed to be fun after all.

Have you checked the Alliance War forum? If a thread like that pops up it might be there.

I wonder if they are going to add temporary non-vet campaigns for the weekend.

I just hang out on the "recent" tab, but I haven't seen anything yet. It would be interesting if they made temp campaigns.

If there are any GMs of helping/new player oriented guilds NOW is the time to send out a mail notice and update the Message of the Day so your members can be ready. Other guilds and solo players might want to get in on this, too.

Not sure if a lower level or higher level character matters but being in the zones for the starter island/first major alliance zone will be important. Even if you don't find a player to help right in front of you, making /zone more friendly and helpful is very important.

I couldn't agree more.

I plan on hanging out in Stonefalls and making a circuit of the World Boss locations and Delves just to help new players get a small taste of victory. With luck, I can make the experience pleasant enough that some of them will commit to the game.

If they don't, then they can walk away with a story about a very pleasant weekend in this MMO.

I completely agree. It feels like the opportunity of a lifetime to actively recruit for guilds and get people in the community involved in encouraging more players to stick around.

Oh god... I sound like a ZOS spy. And if you didn't think it before, you think it now. :-/ I just want the best for the game. New players will help the game thrive. Plus I need all the new subs to fund that $1mil I'm going to win.
