One thing I dislike about ESO.

I'm a little new to ESO but I have 10 years experience playing WoW, so I'm not new to mmorpg. One thing that turns me off in ESO is that for those of us who want to deal the most damage or heal the most, we have to wear medium gear for damage and wear cloth for healing. When I first started playing ESO, I got the impression that we could be anything we wanted. I wanted to be a heavy armor wearing Templar dealing great damage but now I'm finding out to deal high damage I need to wear medium gear. That just doesn't look right on a Templar.

Other than that complaint, this game is very beautifully made and am enjoying the hell out of it, very deep immersive game this is. I also would like to see some 10v10 pvp battlegrounds or something.

TESO needs a wardrobe system badly. Something similar to WoW's tmog system would make this game one of the best mmorpg out there!

It was never possible to be the *best* damage dealer in heavy, but it was a little easier to be adequate at it before soft caps were removed. Even then DDs wore lots of medium or light to truly shine and be effective in tough fights with DPS checks, but with the right passives, set bonuses, etc, you had much less of a gap in heavy than you do now.

So, heavy armor is only good for tanking? That sucks. Sucks to be a Templar or Dragon Knight and not being able to wear heavy armor to do good damage.

I'm rather more thankful for the choice in this game than the very limited armour options restricted to class in WoW.

However much the choice may not work sometimes.

You can deal great damage in heavy armor, just not the highest damage possible.

It is a neccessary tradeoff. If heavy was just as good for all tasks as medium or light, there would be no point of ever wearing anything but heavy.

Its nice to be able to wear whatever we want but it's still kinda restricted in that melee damage dealers only wear one type. Healers only wear cloth etc.

Also, Medium is good for Stamina/Weapon Damage and Light is good for Magicka/Spell damage (not just healing).

One thing you can look into is wear 5 Medium, 1 Heavy, 1 light and make the heavy piece be the chest. That will give you your "Paladin" look and still give you enough damage from the 5 medium (assuming you are a stam build). And once you are high enough in the Undaunted Skill line to get the Undaunted Mettle passive, the three types of armor will come in handy.

Only if you are a min/maxer. My Templar is still leveling and she wears half heavy half light and does not change gear to switch from tanking to healing (other than slotting a second sword and shield or a second resto staff.) Can tank/heal pledges with no problem.

Technically you only need 5 pieces of an armor type to take advantage of the key passives. The other 2 pieces of armor are open to really whatever you like. So you could still wear a heavy chest and helmet to give you that tanky look and feel without sacrificing DPS.

Hmm, I didn't think of this. Do medium shoulders look somewhat like heavy armor?

My Molag Kena's shoulder looks much heavier than a pauldron and it's medium type. And looks awesome too!

Well, even in single-player tes games you could play any combo you want, but some of them were much more viable than the others.

Same here. I run pretty much all magic builds but I prefer 2H 5L. Just feels more balanced that way, to me.

OP, welcome to ESO, there will probably be numerous things you find you don't like but I like to think the good outweighs the bad.

And yes, some styles can look lighter or heavier than they are. Im sure you can find some medium that will look good on a Templar. The link above me ^^ thats a great site to see all the styles of armor.

I wear two pieces heavy on all my dps. The 5 peice medium/light is all your really need for the passives.
