Soul Gems not filling with Soul Lock

So, I have Soul Lock unlocked, but ever since the IC DLC, my soul gems are not filling with kills. I know there were discussions in the past, but this has not been resolved. What is going on ZOS? Can we get some answers, please? @ZOS_GinaBruno? Anyone?

I'm pretty sure mine is still working fine but I'll check tonite after work and when I get home from class. I had a few empty soul gems that I don't think are empty any more. This is my primary source for soul gems so I hope it still works.

I have so many filled soul gems that I never check if the count is going up or not.

its working on me but be sure you kill with heavy and light atks not abilty's and even then it's a small chance you know this right

Working fine for me. As Artjuh90 pointed out, it will only fill using light or heavy attacks and it is only a small chance that it will fill.

this was happening to me (ps4 NA) too last week but it seems to have been fixed as of last night. the only way I could fill a gem last week was to use the direct soul trap spell. The 10% to fill a gem with a melee attack was NOT working.....or at least it kept telling me that I do not have a valid gem when my inventory shows that I do.....and yes it was the correct level. I am vr16 and only keep grand soul gems, and the enemies were the correct level too

Did they change that? Because I haven't changed my play style at all, and they used to fill up. I routinely go to the max zones and just kill mobs in order to fill soul gems and collect mats.

I'll trying using only attacks, but as I'm a magica DK sword and board, I mostly use the abilities. But maybe they changed it with one of the patches?

it has always been like that so far i know. it's in the discription of the passive though

As stated above, it's only with light or heavy attacks, and its a 5% or 10% chance...
So about 1 in every 20 hits, or 1 in every 10 hits, respectively.

That being said, I noticed the same thing. It seems like its intermittently failing to proc. When it's working, it will easily fill 5 gems in 5 minutes. When it's not working, it will fill 0 gems all night. The cases when it's working seem to be extremely rare, I mostly resort to the old manual method to fill my gems now.

I first realized it wasn't working when I noticed that my empty soul gems were starting to accumulate, and they never did that before. Something definitely happened.

I also notice that sometimes my empties fill in a fight or two and sometimes nothing for days. I presume the proc gets OOO for a while, but I don't know what resets it.

I filled a couple last night killing mobs. I made sure to finish them off with light and heavy attacks. Maybe what happened was that it was not working per the description, i.e. any attack had a chance to fill a gem and they "fixed" that with a patch? That's a guess obviously, but is sure doesn't fill them at the rate it used to. If I killed 50 mobs, I could pretty much guarantee to fill at least 5 soul gems. Now, not so much. Thanks for the input everyone.

With grand soul gems in Wrothgar this passive is not working.

I get a messaged in the top right hand corner of the screen when it procs saying need a valid empty soul gems when I am currently at 55 empty grand soul gems

is it supposed to be 100 percent chance of filling a soul gem?

I know I can still count on it to get more Grand soul gems.

They took out the ability to use it on dummies in Cyrodiil but I still just go to Deshaan and one shot NPCS with it and in minutes ill have 50+

It is working for me, but I'm noticing a lower frequency. I run around with 50 empty and only have to buy 9 after a heavy session. i think it's only something like a 10% chance, so I'm guessing they actually got it working properly.

It has been working fine for me, haven't come across that issue. Maybe your just not having good luck with the 5-10%?

I've had the same problem, used to hardly ever have empty gems because they would get filled during regula.r play but now I have to slot the active ability and go on runs specifically to fill the 40-50 empties I build up each week

For me it goes in waves. Sometimes they just all fill. Sometimes I go a week and it seems nothing unless I actually cast it.

I thought I was seeing things.. I halfway saw this message (several times, afair) but was concentrated doing other things and forgot to check. But I always carry a ton of empty soulgems around, too, so it must be a bug, I guess (and there wasn't even a need to check anyways).

Near as I can tell its in the IC and Orsinium this passive is bugged.

As well as White Gold Tower was not paying attention in ICP.

I going yo guess it has do with the game not matching IC and Orsinium NPC's was th grand soul gems.

Customer service is a Effin joke, they closed my ticket by responding to have valid empty soul grams and did not even bother to respond when I replied.

ZOS you really should do a better job with staffing and training, you could start with actually reading entire bug reports instead of two words and looking for which pre-canned response fits or more to the point does not fit.

OP just to clarify some things to you :

At present there are 6 soul gems in the game & they are:

petty level 1-9 minor level 10-19 lesser level 20-29 common level 30-39 greater level 40-49 grand level ANY

There are also crown soul gems, I won't mention them.

Note the level denotations above not only indicate what level the gem is used for to capture a soul but also what level the gem is used for to revive a player.

The most reliable way to fill soul gems is to actually slot soul lock or it's morphs onto your bar cast it just before they die or cast it and then kill them fast enough. Fill your gems up and then remove it from your slot bar and go do whatever you were doing before. When my empty soul gems become too many I do this. I go to a zone, just cast that and AoE.

I have over 800 Grand soul gems all filled most of which were empty when I found them in chests. They get filled auto on a 10% chance on my VR16 Sorc. I can tell when they get filled because there is an audible cue when that happens. I never intentionally fill my Grand soul gems, I just let it happen and especially in Wrothgar.

I've read all of the above so my post might seems controversial but I am telling the truth and have no answer for those who cannot fill soul gems in Wrothgar or by using the passive for filling them.

I am aware of the levels of soul gems, but thank you. Soul Lock is a passive and cannot be slotted in your ability bar. However, Soul Strike is an active ability that fills soul gems, perhaps this is what you are thinking of. For me, the Soul Lock passive is not working, at all, anywhere in the game anymore. However, I will fill gems using Soul Strike when I need to fill some. I'll just go to The Rift and kill some trolls and saber cats to fill my gems. But for me, every since IC launch, Soul Lock no longer works, whatsoever regardless of how I kill.

I have a "theory" about this issue in Wrothgar:
Could it be that these empty low-level soulgems, which we can find in this zone at a few spots, are blocking the grand soulgems from filling when they're in the inventory?

Well, 2 things, at least from my perspective. One, I'm not only getting this in Wrothgar, but everywhere, and, two, I only have grand soul gems in my inventory.

What's more, is that it started long before Wrothgar, but when the IC DLC came out.

Yeah, same thing is happening to me too.

The passive skill just doesn't seem to be working any more. I have over 100 empty grand soul gems in my inventory, and previously I would never have more than 10 or so, because they would auto-fill.

Doesn't seem to be working with my VR1 Sorc. I even tried using nothing but light attacks with my destruction staff and it never worked. I'll keep at it.

I also noticed this.
It does not always work, I can see the animation of the effect, but my gems remain empty.

I would say only once in about 10 times that I see the animation the soul gem gets filled.
