Should all Zone's Scale to your level?

There are many mmo's that do this. Eso preaches about playing with your friends and questing with them. However as soon as im 5 levels ahead of my friend who has not been active i cannot play with them.

Popular Mmo's much as WoW have recently implemented this.

Personally i think Eso should do the same.

Why this is a great feature:

1: You can quest with your friends when ever you want regardless of level.
2: You are not bound to a linear quest line.
3: You can go where you want when you want. Run in any direction and you can do the content. (can still be challenging but not impossible)
4: Instead of one shoting all the old content at max level... now you can go back and finish content while it's still relevant (player down-scaled/content up-scaled).

In Orsinium Zos made the player scale to the content but why stop there. The whole game should be like this!

Option's to consider:

-Player Down-scaled to content
-Player Up-scaled to content
-Content scaled to Player
-Content down-scaled to Player

Please explain why you have chosen which ever answer.

I really love flexibility in a game: Allow players to play the game the way they want, play with who they want, regardless of level difference, and always have content relevant and not obselete.

I think most zones should scale to your level except for ones like coldharbor, and the last zone for each faction. I still wish cold harbor was its own expansion and they did a lot more with it.

Keep the zones up to Cold harbor then scale them up.

Would also like the ability the tweak the battle level to make it harder.

I think they should leave the 1-50 zones like they are, they provide a good tutorial for learning the game and a solid introduction to the story and lore of Tamriel in this timeframe.

However, I think it would be great if after finishing Coldharbour all zones worked like Orsinium going forward, including a separate instance of your home faction & Coldharbour for vets only. This would mean that after "beating the game" the entire surface of Tamriel would be open to quest/grind/farm however you see fit.

    Hell no.
I even think that this Wrothgar scaling is a terrible idea... I get why they had to do it: to be able to sell it to everyone.
But I hate it... Wrothgar is infested with way too many players - at least the pre-vr ones should have stayed out for good until they finish all their alliance zones + CH.
Frankly speaking I dont like it at all that newbie chars now get a free pass and buffs to enter end-game zones.

I don't like the idea because then you could never truly be OP for content. It's akin to saying, "I want every area I travel to be equal to me", then what is the point of leveling, what's the point of gaining XP if you never, truly GAIN ANYTHING. Why even have levels, why not just have ZOS say, "here's the new content, everyone can play it, and by the way, we're removing levels period so everyone is equal everywhere." I don't want equality, I want the ability for my work to gain me something, I want the ability to be several or many levels above my enemies... that is playing how "I" want. So basically, you're asking to take the ability for me to play how "I" want away, so you can play how YOU want.

I dont like battle scaling. In one of the loading screens it tells you that if you cant kill that really rough boss,go away, level up and come back to get him.It still says that, however you can no longer do that now.It scales to your level.

All zones should scale players to the level of the zone.

That way the difficulty stays reasonable if you want to go back and do a lower level zone later on. As it stands, there are several zones which I may never complete simply because there's zero challenge which makes it boring.

I think that if they scaled Cadwell's silver and gold it would be perfect. Then I remembered that I have level V1 characters that haven't even done the 1-50 area. I can't go back because it's all pointless unless they scale the content to our levels.

This sounds like it would be a nightmare in large open zones. Make more areas scale maybe, but with ZOS's dwindling ability to handle major changes successfully, I would not recommend this.

Yes, because anyone who plays in Wrothgar is going to have all content scale up. They're going to level, have a great time, enjoy the game... then go back to the other starting areas, and find themselves over-leveled. Depending on how much they leveled, they may no get loot or experience while they continuing playing until they "catch up" in content.

This is going to really soil the player experience.

Elder Scrolls games have more or less always scaled to the player level, which is good. But this unbalanced approach is really only going to kind of cause play imbalance for a lot of people.

make it the players choice to be scaled to the zones level range (if player is higher level they would scale to the max level for the zone and players of lower level would scale to minimum level for zone ) , by having it be the players choice then all players can play , quest , or grind as they wish to . This would mean it would have to be a toggle setting that is off by default and you have to turn it on if you want to scale to the zones level range

such a simple concept but the real question is do you trust the coders at ZOS to be able to code it in with out 6 months of major bugs to be fixed after it gets off the PTS servers.

Scaling zones to your level? Not such a good idea... too complicated when there's people with widely variying levels running around... who should that mob level-scale to, the V2 on the right, the level 37 in the middle, or the V16 on the left? What if a mob scaled to V16 shifts aggro to the level 37?

Scaling your level -up- to the zone? (like Orsinium does) Now that is worth considering... and in all likelyhood, will be how ALL future DLCs will go. Thus having them all free for all players to do with their friends, no matter their level. Refitting this to other zones on the other hand... not so sure that might be a good idea.
During main stroy, in-zone level progression happens and should -mean- something, hot be rendered moot when everyone is scaled to the zone max level, and only those who overlevel the zone get a benefit.
During cadwells, with the new V-rank XP costs, everyone will easily overlevel the zone they're in anyhow, and thuse who are lowbie don't (or at least shouldn't, not sure if "TP to friend" works to bypass those restrictions or not) have access to it anyways.
In Cyrodil there's already battle levelling...
And Craglorn... hmmm... okay, that one could maybe benefit from such a level-scaling refit. Though personally I think it would be a waste of effort, the zone is fine as it is (if you can get a -censored- group together in -censored- time for doing your -censored- questing without some -censored- -censored- -censored- dropping out halfway through the -censored- quest and leaving the rest standing their with their -censored- hanging in the -censored- ;) )

Scaling your level -down- to the zone? Nah, I hate games that do that... though if it was a -option- one could enable or disable at will, it might be worth considering. But there's always some people who -need- that "overlevel" advantahe to finish a tough fight during the period when they are still "learning to play", so I think it would be wrong to take that away from them during the "leaning the ropes" part of the game, which is pretty much the main story...

BUT - for the "quest with friends" part, there is another problem, in how ESO shifts people into seperate phases depending on their quest completion. Forget levels, when you cannot quest with your lowbie friend because you have already done the quest... as soon as you enter the quest area, you will be seperates, your friend in the "quest undone" version, and you in the "quest done" version. If the quest goes to some instance, you will have to wait outside since you cannot enter due to "quest done" status while your friend has to go alone. Etc.

Now what I would want to see instead of all those notions...

I would love to see your "homelands" becoming available as "veteran version" after completion of your main story.
Everything at V15, battle levelling up to it, and the regions slightly different from when you played through the story... in a "some time later" kind of way.
Meaning things that were "in progress" during the main story will be "in aftermath" in these versions - battle damage will be under repair, the enemy mob density will be much lower, and "story-specific" mobs will have been replaced by "generic" mobs, dolmens will all be inactive, etc.
Like... the daggerfall invasion of Bleakrock and Stonefalls will be over, and the nord villagers will be there again, rebuilding their burned houses. The volcanoes in Stonefalls will be slowly going dormant again, with the brothers of strife sealed away once more. The werewolf occupation of Camlorn will be ended, and the city will be recovering and be a city not a battlefield. The deadric incursion in Firsthold will be over, and cleanup in progress. Stuff like that.
And then... daily missions. Orsinium has shown how it could go... a daily dwelve mission in your homelands would not be a bad thing. Possibly also removing the old "world bosses" and add one orsinium-sized one per map for another daily mission option...

I haven't seen too many side effects of scaling in both Wrothgar and Cyrodiil ... enabling scaling across all zones would let new characters visit zones they would otherwise have to wait for Cadwell ...

I didn't like the reduced difficulty while leveling on the first hand, but I found a way to live with it. I always made sure that my character has a lower level than the zone I'm in, so it's at least somehow a challenge. So please don't take the option to play underleveled away.

Make every Zone scale to your level.
IMO, there are two two good models that ZOS can learn something from.

First, in GW2 every zone scales to your level and it makes going back and play in old zones possible and meaningful. Second, in TSW most quests are re-doable. I myself really enjoy going back and doing some of the interesting quests.

There are so many beautiful landscapes and interesting NPCs and quests in those old zones and I am sure ZOS has put a awful lot of efforts making them. It's such a waste in both ways that we just visit them once and leave them all behind and all those efforts and resources put in there are made a one time use thing.

I can imagine that making zones scale to players or quests re-doable is a lot of work and there are definitely going to be crazy bugs everywhere. But it's best if ZOS at least starts to think about adding some new elements or systems such as the long-waited enforcer system to the old zones.

I think the scale we are talking about here is mainly down scale so low level players still get to keep the sense of progression while there are more incentives for high level players to go back if down scale is implemented.

I don't think they should scale at all. A sub is not required in the game. People who do not purchase the content should not be given a bunch of zones that will always be at level cap. They purchased the original game, so they get the original game.

If a sub was required, then yeah, scale them. But it's not.

Yeah this is more or less what should happen. Then you can still technically play with lower levels. However the lower level will still progress through the same zones as intended.

If quests were also repeatable, the higher level players who play with you can still follow along and get loot which is their level.

What would help also, if you decided to go back and help a friend. All the zones the high level player has not done should scale properly to be a couple levels ahead of him. This way you will never end up over-leveling zones you have not completed. So the game-play is still challenging.

Keep the newbie zones as is, let the new players accomplish the long and interesting quests, then free them into tamriel.

An oh, drop Cadwells or change it in something better, Cadwell is in the top 3 NPC of almost every player and is totally forgotten after the Molag fight, we could have a better end for this guy.

As far as I've heard, ZOS plans on making ALL future content scale like orsinium does. I think it's a good idea to have some content (base game) have predetermined levels to help new players out. Why? People have difference difficulty levels. If someone finds Orsinium a bit rough because for them the difficulty is too high, they can check out the predetermined levels to get a hang of it. If the area that is exactly their level is a bit too tough as they are figuring out the game, they can backtrack and bit to practice and get a better grasp on their class and on the game as a whole. I love the idea of scaling content, and am all for all future content to scale, but I feel SOME of the game should have pre-set levels so players can stay behind or go ahead depending on their grasp of the game.

In my opinion... Making everyone zone scale to you would just invite botters back. because you wouldn't have to ever leave the starting zone. and if you could do that you could just sell entire accounts with max level characters easier.

I agree with you guys that the grind is hard. but really ur supposed to be engaged by the quests. fall in love with all the art work, and try to get immersed in the spirit of the game world. Develop opinions, and thrive on the controversy .

Too much overlap with multiple players of the various levels in the same area if the content scales to the players.

Better to have players scale to content. However that too is not without issues due to lacking skills and passives.

Ultimately there needs to be sense of progression. If a player can simply go to any area, why bother leveling? Why bother gear grinding? At that point players blaze through the content, and are left with little else to do.

If you think about it. Leveling is the bulk majority of content in ESO. It's rather light on other relevant and up-to-date content. Unless ZOS gives players more activities to do beyond leveling. Introducing a system which makes leveling less meaningful. Would mean players would spent less time gaming. That's not a good place for an MMO.
