New Gear Set - Losing Spell Damage Instead of Gaining it

Hi folks. I posted this in the Technical Support section and also submitted a ticket in game, but wanted to share it here to see if anyone else is experiencing this bug or could give some input. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to be clear on everything.

First off, I am a very dedicated player, like many others in this game. I've been playing since beta. I spend a lot of time earning gold, farming mats, gaining champion points etc. It's always exciting when new gear comes out. New and better stats! Yay! I am going to work hard to upgrade everything and better my character! Unfortunately, the opposite happened with the new sets. Some stats went up, but some went down when they shouldn't have.

I tested this several different ways. I removed all my gear, reloaded UI, logged in/out, turned off all add-ons etc, but nothing changed. When comparing my old and new gear, I stood in the same spot in the same zone, same skills on my bar, same champion points, no food. I did everything I could think of to test this out, and my results were unchanged.

The main bug that I am experiencing is with Spell Damage. I upgraded my sets so that I could improve my Magicka Pool, Spell Crit, and Spell Damage. The first 2 went up with their numbers. The Spell Damage went down, when it should have gone up. Instead of gaining at least 50 Spell Damage, I lost 87.

Here are my stats with my old set. I am only including the stats that should be impacted by the gear change. I am using the Mage Mundus Stone and no food. I am a V16 Sorc, my race is Altmer and I have 238 champion points:
Max Magicka - 34286
Spell Damage - 3098
Spell Crit - 32%

When I put the new gear on, this is how the numbers changed:
Max Magicka - 35230
Spell Damage - 3011
Spell Crit - 38.3%

As you can see, the numbers went up for my Max Magicka and Spell Crit, but went down on my spell damage. I changed nothing but my gear. Everything else is the same.

Now lets talk about my gear. Here are the pieces from my old set:
Head - V16 Light Armor Magnus' Gift - Divines - Legendary - 868 Magicka Enhancement
Chest - V14 Heavy Armor Torug's Pact - Infused - Legendary - 796 Max Magicka Enhancement
Sash - V14 Light Armor Martial Knowledge - Divines - Legendary - 268 Magicka Enhancement
Shoes - V14 Light Armor Martial Knowledge - Infused - Legendary - 321 Magicka Enhancement
Legs - V14 Light Armor Martial Knowledge - Infused - Legendary - 796 Magicka Enhancement
Arms - V14 Light Armor Martial Knowledge - Divines - Legendary - 268 Magicka Enhancement
Shoulders - V14 Medium Armor Torug's Pact - Divines - Legendary - 268 Max Magicka Enhancement
Neck and Rings - V16 Willpower - Epic - Arcane
Weapons - V16 Dual Wield Magnus's Gift Swords - Nirnhoned Trait - Legendary

The bonuses that these sets gave me were:
Martial Knowledge 4 piece - 945 Max Magicka, 126 Spell Damage, 126 Spell Damage
Magnus' Gift 3 piece - 967 Max Magicka, 129 Magicka Recovery
Torug's Pact 2 piece - 126 Spell Damage
Willpower 3 piece - 1400 Max Magicka, 186 Spell Damage (plus 174 Spell Damage enchantment on each piece)

Here is the new set:
Head - V16 Heavy Armor Magnus' Gift - Divines - Legendary - 868 Magicka Enhancement
Chest - V16 Light Armor Law of Julianos - Divines - Legendary - 868 Max Magicka Enhancement
Sash - V16 Light Armor Law of Julianos - Divines - Legendary - 351 Magicka Enhancement
Shoes - V16 Light Armor Law of Julianos - Divines - Legendary - 351 Magicka Enhancement
Legs - V16 Light Armor Law of Julianos - Divines - Legendary - 868 Magicka Enhancement

The bonuses that this new gear set should give me are:
Law of Julianos 5 piece - 688 Spell Crit, 967 Max Magicka, 688 Spell Crit, 299 Spell Damage
Magnus' Gift 4 piece - 967 Max Magicka, 129 Magicka Recovery, 129 Spell Damage
Willpower 3 piece - 1400 Max Magicka, 186 Spell Damage (plus 174 Spell Damage enchantment on each piece)

I know that there are a lot of other numbers going on in the background, but the pieces I changed should have changed everything positively, not negatively.

Looking at only the pieces of gear that I changed, the spell damage from my old set (by just looking at the numbers in the tool tips) gave me 378 Spell Damage.
The new pieces that I put on should have given me a total of 428 Spell Damage according to the tool tips.

The important question is, Why did my Spell Damage go from 3098 to 3011? I didn't upgrade my gear for it to go down.

    Seeing as you are a sorc, the only question I have is the following:

    Did you change your bars when looking at your changed spell damage? As sorcerer abilities give you a percental spell damage increase. Aside from that, I've got nothing.

    I think there's a disturbance in the force with much stealth nerfing going on. For instance we got to third boss in the prison last night on vr 16 vet on PS4. We watched a youtube vid of vr16 pc player roast this boss stack and burn on veteran 16. Used the same method on console and only took 1/4 of his health before wipe. Zos is becoming very disappointing.

    I'll need to take at this specifically but keep on.mind that your SD , as a sorcerer, changes if you slot in or out any sorc spells . So you'll need to make comparison on using exact abilities to make sure that passive remains constant.

    Yep, everything was the same. All the same spells/skills.

    For sure my stats are better with my old armor (even in this update my old armor sets give better stats than julianos 5 peice)....but heres a neat bug.

    I understand. I was already paranoid enough to craft my "final" VR16 gear but now it feels even more freaky. It takes so much effort/gold to get mats for VR16 pieces you feel like you can't make a "mistake" or you're totally screwed. And I would be surprised if Zeni changes the mats costs at this point...

    Here is a link to another thread about the resource management since Orsinium. I have some screenshots in there from my character in IC before Orsinium, then afterwards in Orsinium and in Craglorn and any differences affecting stats like food etc.

    On my character, I noticed a few of the following
    - Spell crit and weapon crit has gone down 8% each from IC to Wrothgar.
    - Spell damage and Weapon damage have also gone down.
    Spell damage was: 1850 now:1762 (88pts difference)
    Wpn damage was: 1401 now: 1335 (66pts difference)

    My character is wearing ALL V16 heavy armor with 3 Legendary on the 3 full stat pieces and the rest are Epic. Weapons are Legendary.

    Also the changes were not caused from CP loss as I only have just over 360CP, so I didn't lose anything that way.

    ALSO, and this sorta peeves me off a lot... weapon damage stat on Bows and Staves got nerfed from 1401 for V16 Legendary down to 1335.
    I would like to know the reason for that, because Greatswords, Mauls, etc are all 1531 weapon damage still. What's the point of using a two handed weapon when it only gives you the attack of a single handed weapon.

    So, battle-leveling may have had a hand in screwing something up, but I had these stats in Craglorn and that is not a Battle Leveled area. So something is messed up somewhere in addition to the nerfs to Bow and Stave weapon damage (yes yes, we know that the staves use Spell Damage or so they say, but frankly the tool tip always shows weapon damage, so I go by that for basic attacks [no skills]).

    i'm running destro and S&B on my DK, when i switch to S&B the fourth pieces set bonus for the shield is not applying, it's a spell damage bonus, i got the exact same spell damage with 3 pieces, something weird is going on

    Although not likely, but:
    The only thing I can think of that could have influenced a 100% clean comparison on the Spell Damage is that during your comparison a Cyrodiil Spell Damage buff changed as well.

    Thanks for your input. I did all the testing outside of Cyrodiil, so there were no Cyrodiil buffs. I tested in two different zones and made sure everything was accurate and complete. I hope they are able to fix this.

    Weren't Greatswords and Mauls 1571 weapon damage with Imperial City patch? If they are down to 1531, sounds like they got nerfed, too. And base damage number of weapons is based on melee versus ranged, not 2H versus 1H. It is a risk/reward thing as attacking from range is safer than getting right up in enemy's face. Now, the fact that you can equip a couple daggers or a greatsword and use ranged class skills to bypass the whole risk/reward of being a melee character is a problem. But having melee do better damage than ranged is, in itself, a good thing. It is just poorly implemented in game.

    So much this........ give spell damage back to staves and take it from melee weapons......

    Ninja nerfs and lying tooltips frustrate players more than any other kind of development activity. This is the kind of thing that keeps me from playing more.

    Y'know, I noticed that too. On my Templar, I had spell damage in the mid-2,500s. I thought it was pretty solid, and I know some builds out there have higher, but last night I logged in test out Julianos and noticed my spell power dropped, too. Blegh. Okay, let me swap back to my old gear... and my spell power was in the low 2,400s.

    At first I thought I had done something wrong, and couldn't quite figure out what the difference was in my sets. But there definitely *is* a difference.

    I think this happened to me as well although my damage just didn't go up as much as it should have.

    I swapped out Kagranac with Julianos and changed absolutely nothing else. Same enchants on all gear, same traits. I only use Destro + Sword and Board so nothing changed with either of those.

    My Spell damage when buffed with Crit Surge with Kagrenac was 3396. My spell damage when buffed with Julianos was only 3440.

    Kagrnac's Hope at Legendary gives 224 Spell Damage. Julianos gives 299 Spell Damage. With Major Sorcery and 5 Sorc abilities on my Bar my buffed Spell Damage should have increased 75*1.3= 98 Damage. Instead it only increased by 44 Damage which is only 34 Spell damage, making Julianos seemingly only give 258 Spell damage which explains your missing spell damage as well.

    Probably has checkbox on Customer Service profile that say High Aggro, 99% immunity to BS

    5 piece light, 1 medium, 1 heavy. First setup was medium shoulders, heavy chest, everything else light. New setup is medium shoulders, heavy helm, everything else light.

    Yeah, slight diff in Magicka wouldn't have amounted to that much of a loss anyway...wasn't thinking ;)

    It's a bug.. perform a full skill reset and it will fix.

    I had it also. This is what happens when core skills get changed a zos dies not provide a free reset.
    My suspicion is the issue is caused by dual wield and if that's wrong whatever the reset fixes it

    I hope this is fixed I see no reason to continue my adventures if my sets and such aren't making a difference its like questing and pvping naked to me

    Not the case. I'm not using Dual Wield or 2 hander.
