Noob question, sorry

Sorry in advance everyone, but just feel the need to ask.
Is there any drawbacks to using heavy armor vs light armor for sorc?
The perks for light armor just doesn't seem to outweigh the extra defense of the heavy armor. Some guidance would be appreciated. Just remember I'm trying to learn

On lower levels, heavy armor is superior. You don't get much from wearing light armor because the passives aren't unlocked, but you get the resistence from heavy armor.

On higher levels, light armor is clearly superior. More magicka recovery, less magicka cost for spells, spell crit and ignoring spell resistance from opponents are pretty important later on.
^^Well, that is if you plan to run around as DD or Healer.
For tanks, heavy armor is the way to go for obvious reasons.

When you're just looking at the light armour passives they may not seem that significant, but they really are if you're doing a magicka-based build - especially a sorcerer who can use things like Bound Aegis and Hardened Ward to make the protective value provided by armour almost irrelevant. Personally I think the best bet for a magicka build is 5 pieces of light armour, and either 2 pieces of heavy (make sure they're big pieces that provide the most resistance possible), or 1 piece of heavy and 1 piece of medium (if you have the Undaunted passive that boosts your stats based on the number of types of armour you're wearing). Others may recommend going 7 pieces of light.

Light armour has more magicka recovery, reduces cost of magicka skills spell crit and spell dmg,

What i do at low level is i take the 2 largest pieces of armour(head, body or legs) HEAVY armour and the rest Light,

I also level my passives on light armour up as quickly as i can coz if you run out of magicka you are dead as a sorc..

Having said that i have seen builds that use only heavy armour(seducer, Magnus or Eyes of Mara) and they work pretty well..
5 pces heavy and 2 pieces light.

ESO is a resource management game in which mitigation plays a small role compared to continuous healing and/or shields.Sustain is therefore extremely important. Heavy armor is for tanks which do have role but must rely to a certain degree on a group

For lowbie levels, if you're new to the game - go with 5 pieces of heavy armor, 1 medium with training trait and 1 light with training trait to lvl them up.

Once you hit veteran ranks, switch to 5 pieces of lightarmor, 1 heavy and 1 medium. Make sure the heavy and medium pieces are among these bodyparts: legs, head or chest. They will provide you most protection.
