1.8 Battle Leveling

I know that PvP is having a difficult time, but I also think credit has to be given where credit is due. And that's with the improvements to the Battle Leveling added in the latest major content update.

There are now much more options in terms of builds, as all factors are taken into account, instead of special 5pc boni, food buff/drinks, mundus stones and attributes. This makes playing a new character much more enjoyable than it used to be and gives low-level characters more overall streangth in PvP.

(I put it in the PvP section as I don't own Orinium)

Yeah, I agree that it's a great change. Now my legendary lvl 35 masters greatsword, which I got as pvp reward is finally better than a white lvl 1 greatsword. Unfortunatelly the character who earned it is allready v7, but I might use it with my next new character.

My VR10 now mostly reflects the amount of time and work I have put into it without being unfair. I have specced and geared him properly, and he is as strong as he should be with all the attributes he should have. Plenty of magicka, decent regen, but not as good as my VR16 finished toon. I think they did a good job on this.

Yup! Well I was level 30 when I tried pvp for the first time. Got wrecked so you know what I did? Went back to pve and leveled my player then came back to pvp at vet 1. This was during the first month of release. Battle level ain't for me.

How did it go against max level players once you reached v1?

It's great, and has actually fixed a few issues. One of the main ones being it took forever to take anything down on BwB.. god it was a joke. Fights are finally more interesting, and you can't let your guard down for a second like you could before.
Of course this means with healing ward being my only protection on a level 30 sorc I'm getting 3 hit by wrecking blows at 9k-10k each, but yeah, still a welcome change nonetheless.

I got my little magicka DK all geared out at lvl 20 in preparation for the new Battle Leveling system about a week before the patch. I was planning to grind to 90 CP with the catch-up system but once I started in Cyrodiil I didn't want to leave... 12% extra crit be damned.

The new system is amazing! The fights, in BwB anyway, are much more diverse and exciting. I find myself actually looking for the more squishy (or lethal) targets instead of just blowing up the closest hero to me. Siege is thankfully a threat once again and from what I have seen, simply having more numbers won't always determine the result of a fight (obviously to an extent numbers still matter).

NA BwB has been a red disaster (while I've been on) ever since the update but even with the map being dominated I've been able to find some really fun fights.

Bravo ZoS... thank you very much for this much wanted change.

My mana DK did MUCH better in BwB last night after trying out the new battle level. It certainly helped. No longer will my damage be garbage.

in fact stat wise my level 28 mana DK is better than my VR15 NB with battle level :D

BwB was a lot more fun last night. If only vet PvP was like this

a level 49 would die in pvp without battle level. the NPcs alone would crush them effortlessly. Think about the well-being of the game and community as a whole instead of the outdated and flawed Social Darwinism Philosophy.

I agree with xskinzcity. I don't like getting my tush slammed around all the time but I think the weak should not be as good as the strong until they earn it.

I level my characters thru PvP starting at lvl 10. The best place for a level 10 is on on the wall with a siege or oil. Same story in the vet campaigns, start out sieging and defending keeps then work your way into the hand combat as you get stronger.

I'm not wining or crying about anything just stating my opinion.

You were more than likely one of the players that were destroying me last night. I was level 47, and my experience with the new battle level was the total opposite of yours. I had some pretty good gear on and still got tossed around like I was level 10.

This is not WoW where a max level player can one shot low level people and camp the quest hubs, making it impossible for lower level players to play, everyone has a fair shot in this game; that is not a bad thing.

And those that have the mind set of cave men should probably have stayed in the stone ages and Geico commercials...

If there was no battle leveling, they'd need to make narrow ranges for cyrodil/ic/orcinium instances in order for lower levels to participate in that content.

The player population doesn't really support that.

So I am guessing you don't believe in progression, and think we should remove leveling, remove cp, remove gold and just see who is the best button pusher?

    Hurt didn't it?

You have never played WoW? let me explain what I said.

In WoW, there is open world PvP, meaning you can gank near quest hubs. a Max level player is allowed to fight a low level player in woWs open world PvP. when such an instance occurs, the low level player cannot do quests or progress, meaning they cannot play, meaning the game is not fun. I cited WoW as an example of what I was trying to say. You want to see what PvP without battle leveling would be like? go play WoW for a week ro two. Once the quest area you are in gets camped by a max level player that literally one shots you and whom you cant even hit and stand no chance against, you will understand. thankfully though, you can turn it off, so its not hopeless, but it takes time to flip off, meaning you will end up sitting there bored for X amount of time just to be able to play.

That is almost exactly what would happen to new people in ESO if battle leveling was removed. ITs not as bad here because they would have Pve to be forced into as a sort of fall back; but not everyone wants to play PvE, and should not be forced to do so because of the existence of max level players

I am not saying a low level character should get everything. I said they should have a shot, no matter how small. there is nothing wrong with that, nothing at all. You as a max level player will still have better gear and far more experience. It will not kill you for your low level opponents to receive some help.

TBH, that's pretty much the way it's implemented atm. V16 still have a noticable advantage, but low-level players can actually compete with them despite the power gap. Apart from that V16 still have a lot more build diveresity available to them than lower characters.

Dusted off my level 30 NB and had a blast in Azuras last night. Sure I wasn't hitting very hard but it was still fun to plunk at folks and CC, lol. Also I completely enjoyed the mobility and survivability (~26k health with blue food). Guess this is more of a plug for the fun of the NB class, but battle level makes it possible.

I'm enjoying this new battleleveling. My gear/weapons/attribute matters.

No longer 34k+ health with 17k stamina and 1.4k weapdmg.

Atm with regen drinks (lvl 20 blue stam+health regen) my level 37 stamdk is sitting on :
    2117 stam regen
    950ish health regen
1997 weapdmg with rally up (no flawless dawnbreaker)
    29.7k max stamina

    redguard in full medium armor

all of the gear is dropped stuff I picked up from CWC grinding.

worked very very well compared to the old battleleveling :)

Youre one of the ones that is mad because, before you could "1vX" the low levels and you thought you were skilled huh? Takes a little more skill now because they can build their characters and hit harder.
I think this change is awesome now if low levels know what there doing they won't just be easy kills.

"IvX" does take skill and that's how it should be. If you're weak then expect a grueling fight vs a solo geared out player. I can sill 1vX low levels but that's not the issue. The issue is battle spirit because of the 50% damage reduction.

    Hey hey,

I was on last night with my lvl 20 Magicka NB,

    My stats were as follows,
    HP 19k
    Magicka - 40k
    Stam - 11k,

My spell damage was what it should be considering i was wearing Julianos 5 pce set,
my recovery was what it should be as i was also wearing 5 pce warlock,

I am really happy with the changes as it is now allowing us to make use of the armour sets we can craft/find,
not just one size fits all anymore.

Well, the patch for me has made me want to go get some CP, and definitely look at my build.

But for the record I am not closed minded; and I do have experience in PvP. One character went from level 10-50, other character I am currently playing went from level 10-46, and I have a new character that went from level 10-14 all just by playing PvP.

So when people say there is an unfair advantage its hard for me to agree. I don't concentrate on 1v1, I just help my alliance and work as a team. In most battles in BwB, not all players are going to be level 49, so levels really balances out in group fights.

I will adapt the the changes, but it is kind of hard for me to agree with the changes when some level 11 can beat me down in 5 hits even when i am wearing all purple/crafted/enchanted gear at level 47. To me that's like fighting Molag Bal at level 11 and winning.

What kind of builds/stats are people running with in BwB now?

    I have 2 heros.

    lvl 20 Dk:

5h/2l. I made him specifically for group play to be a tanky dd/healer.

    5pc Spectre's Eye
    3pc Torug's Pact
3pc Warlock (currently regen enchants but I may switch them for SD)

    buffed

~1900 spell damage and 1400 magicka regen
~26k phys and 24k spell resist.
    (With food)
    Health - 28k
    Magicka - 32k
    Stamina - 15k

Flame Staff: Destructive Clench, Burning Embers, Elemental Drain, Firey Breath, Burning Talons... Take Flight
Resto Staff: Entropy, Rapid Regeneration, Igneous Shield, Hardened Armor, Blessing of Protection... Magma Shell

    lvl 42 NB:

    He's in 7l because it's at lvl50 and med/heavy are both at lvl2.

    4pc Magnus
    4pc Eyes of Mara.
I wish I could get some jewelery sets but they don't seem to exist at lvl42 and low lvl Warlock is a complete waste once you out level it. So I use Arcane jewelry with spell damage enchants.

I forget his resists but they're much lower than my DK

    buffed

~2700 spell damage and 1900 magicka regen
    (With food)
    Health - 24k
    Magicka - 33k
Stamina - 11k (which has proven problematic when I need to break free + roll)

Flame Staff: Swallow Soul, Impale, Dark Cloak, Mass Hysteria, Concealed Weapon... Incapacitating Strike
Resto Staff: Degeneration, Crippling Grasp, Piercing Mark, Mirage, Purge/Healing Ward/Shadow Image(soon)... Soul Tether

For some reason my DK seems to be in a better place as far as magicka management even with 500 less regen.

I welcome any suggestions for improvement and I'd love to see what other people have done as well.

The changes to battle level basically turned Blackwater into the same 2-shot nonsense as veteran PvP. A lot of us don't like that, and so we stuck to Blackwater, which was has always been more balanced because player stats were normalized. If we wanted to play vet-like pvp, we could just go on veteran servers.

The new battle level is absolutely the worst thing to ever happen to pvp, in my opinion. The one option I had for balanced pvp is now gone. The only option now is pvp with a super low time-to-kill. There is no room for longer fights against evenly-matched opponents, where actual skill comes into play. It's all about the cheap shot. Screw 1.8 battle level. If you wanna play that way, go on vet servers. Please give us Blackwater back.
