Speaking as someone who had painstakingly completed this Master achievement before perfect roe were brought into the game, here are my thoughts....
    • I agree with the first, make the fished up bait green and give it greater possibilities of catching trophy fish.
    • Add [slaughterfish scales] as another rare find. These could be used by Enchanters (yes, throw enchanters a special recipe too) to make an item used for conjuring up basic crafting tables (WW, BS & CL) that can be used out in the field to refine or deconstruct mats, or upgrade a piece of gear. Table has a 10 min timer and can only be used by the person who cast it. Item can be used from a quick-slot.
    • Yes, make rare fish fillet-able. We can't do anything else with them anyway except to sell them. Give them a 5% chance to reward a [Perfect Roe].
    • No, I do not think we need purple or gold fish added to an already lengthy list of fish needed to be caught to get an achievement for each zone.
    • No, I do not think we need a fishing skill tree. It is already difficult enough to decide where to spend skill points earned on more important things in the game without adding fishing into the mix. Perks can be earned at completion of Master Fisherman without having to spend skill points to get them.
    • For the person who has completed Master Fisherman Achievement:
      • They should give them the appearance of using a specialized fishing reel once they have completed the master achievement.
      • Give them a 2% chance of getting [Perfect Roe]. Currently everyone has a 1% chance to get roe regardless of fishing progression and I think they need to give someone who has spent the enormous time it takes to finish this achievement something worth working for in the long run.
    • Keep fishing pools as is. The rewards are greater when fishing with others from the same pool. Going to a 'fish anywhere' scenario would ruin the group fishing perks.
    • I whole-heartedly agree with giving us the opportunity to fish up a monster fish, or other things that lurk in the waters, that would need to be killed. This would add an element of surprise and excitement to a sometimes monotonous sport. The system can detect whether single/multiple fishing is done from a hole, and determine the lvl of the monster based on detection. This could increase the comradery of fishing in groups in hopes of getting a boss monster to spawn that would have much greater rewards. "Spawn the Craken!" or whatever for groups of three or four fishing from the same hole.
    • AND YES, give me trophies I can put on the wall in my upcoming house for the following fishing achievements: Dominion Fisherman, Covenant Fisherman, Pact Fisherman, Coldharbour Angler, Craglorn Angler, and Cyrodiil Angler. The Cyrodiil trophy should be a Slaughterfish to best represent the zone.
I think the ideas presented above and here would greatly improve fishing in the game.
Guild: GL - Tamriel Fisherman's Guild - The oldest fishing guild in Tamriel. "There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore looking like an idiot."

I've been thinking about improved fishing myself lately and am glad to see others have as well. I had a thought that ties in the psijic ambrosia recipe as well as keeps in mind the potentially new recipes coming in orsinium.

I thought it would be cool if fishing was a long quest where the eventual goal would be the psijic ambrosia recipe. You'd get the quest early on around when you can start doing crafting writs and would start as a kind of tutorial (gather 25 insect parts, worms, crawlers, etc) then the next part would be too catch a fish from all 4 water types. When you turn it in you get 1 fragment of the recipe and unlock the rest of the quest. For the rest you have to catch all the special fish in a zone (each alliance has 5 zones and a set of islands= the other 6 recipe fragments) when you complete a zone you speak to the master angler in the capital city of your alliance and receive another fragment. By the time you finish your alliances story you will have earned the recipe instead of counting on a random number generator as well as likely gotten several perfect roe to actually use the recipe. Then you should get an achievement too.

When you go on to Cadwell silver you can get the quest again only this time the master angler provides you with information on an ancient Dwemer fish catching device he (or she) has heard about. Upon completing a zone you get a map like with your surveys or treasure that leads to a fishing spot where you'll catch a gunny sack that has a piece of the device in it and another recipe fragment (this way you can earn 3 recipes per character and sell them if you wish). When you complete all the zones you get the ancient Dwemer fishing pole that let's you catch fish twice as fast and maybe gives you a higher chance at rare items from gunny sacks (or maybe items you can only get while fishing).

Then you'll do Cadwell gold and a new quest line will open where upon finishing an area you're told to investigate a sea creature sighting. Here you'll actually fight and earn a fragment, rare gear, and a rare trophy you can sell for good money. When you complete all zones you earn an increased chance at catching rare fish and an increased chance of getting perfect roe plus it will unlock daily bounties where you seek out a sea monster, lure them out with their favorite bait and fight them for loot, gold, and glory. At this point you can finish up the master angler achievement in coldharbour, Craglorn, and cyrodiil with it being a little less boring because you've earned sweet bonuses.

I figured this could make fishing more fun with more purpose. You can still do it with friends to get the special fish faster, and I've seen some Orsinium recipes that might use perfect roe so you'll need more for those. As a side note I always thought it would be cool if when you saw some NPC fishing you could talk to them and they could guide you to good fishing spots. Like I have trouble finding good swamp areas sometimes. It would be cool if they could tell you where to look for the fish you were after. They are fishermen after all.

I really like the idea of the size of your fishing group determining the difficulty of the sea monster you fight. Zos could come up with a sweet armor set or something as reward.

    I love these ideas!!

The only thing I will add is for them to make the Wet Gunny Sacks have better loot. I was soooo happy when they put better items in the Heavy Sacks. So why not the Gunny Sacks? They are much harder to find.

This was actually another idea I had for a passive, but completely forgot at the time I wrote this and then was too lazy to add it in.

Not keen for monsters. I go fishing to relax from questing or killing. Would kind of ruin it for me if I just couldn't go fishing to relax when I'm feeling a little braindead.

Personally I think perfect roe come far two often as it is. Their drop rate is like 1/100, which is far two often for a serious fisherman. Drop it to 1/200 or something.

As for fishing up other ingredients or components, yep, I'm for that. I want a ring of swimming, so my Argonian can swim up the river faster than you can run along next to it?

wow, I'm very much in favor of any of this.

EverQuest actually added Fishing Lures as a crafting skill. You could tie some mighty rare and fancy lures using rare drops from high(er) end mobs and end game zones. Those lures helped you catch the really monster fish. Fishing itself was its own skill line, and it raised as you fished. The higher your fishing skill, the more, bigger, and rarer fish you caught. All of these ideas could easily be implemented into ESO.

Here's an idea for the Slaughterfish Scales...

Have them required to UPGRADE JEWELRY! Maybe have some lesser scales drop as well, so you can upgrade your Jewelry from white, to green, to blue, to purple, and finally gold. Trust me, this would REALLY get a lot of people out fishing throughout Tamriel.

Fishing should be a fun mini-games instead of a stale, boring and time consuming something.

There should not be "fishing patches". I want to throw my lure out on every water spot I come across.

Other mmo's could make fun mini-games out of Fishing. To name a few:

    - Vanguard: had no fishing on launch, but introduced it later. For me the best fishing mini-game ever
    - Starwars Galaxies: Not a mini-game perse. But it still had the player to make choices and do stuff while standing there. Also it was rewarding for me and not boring. (+Nibble +Nibble +Bite +Caught)

I tried to pursue Master Angler in TESO. But after 2 months I caught only one special fish and it didn't register in my achievement collection. And because it was also so boring I vowed never to do it again.

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Remember the old days of runescape when you were fishing or farming nodes and random creatures would spawn? You could throw in water monster you catch on your line like nerids, water dreughs, giant mud crabs that you have to fight and can get cool drops from. Would add some action to your tackle box. ooo a tackle box would be cool too! Other than that I wholeheartedly agree with your proposal :)

Eh - to be honest, when I fish, it's because I want to just relax and not have to fight random things getting pulled up by my line. Fishing is my in-game relaxation, for when I just want to enjoy the game's beautiful scenery and fish. I would really prefer NOT to find myself suddenly in a fight because a nereid or whatever got caught by my line. That said - for those who want that sort of thing, I'd not be against certain special spots on the map providing this chance. That way, I who wants to relax can avoid those specific spots, and those who want the fun can go there.

One of the things I'd really like to see is a bit more dynamic coding involved - if I'm missing a single green fish, then the one I'm missing should have a higher chance of dropping than the ones I already have from that type of water for that zone.

I'd also like to see some sort of backend "counter" that tracks how many total fish a character has obtained from a particular zone's water type, so that, after a certain amount, you are given boosts to drop. There is nothing more aggravating than to have fished 500+ fish, trying to get one last fish to drop, and getting a bag full of multiple greens, etc. that you already have over and over.

Maybe you're guaranteed a green fish after 500, a blue fish after 750, or some such. So at least you know that, if the RNG hates you, as long as you stick it out, that blue fish you've been trying to get for months will eventually drop, once you've crossed over the "total fish threshold."

Fantastic suggestions. I'm a huge fan of fishing in MMOs and find fishing in ESO rather lackluster. It could be so much more.

I want a chance to have a cat pounce on any catch and try to drag it away.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis
