What Is A Guild To You?

When I first started playing this game I thought guilds were about active players who were willing to stop what they were doing to join your group and run daily pledges or go PVPing just to blow off some steam and have traditional fun. Now I see that ESO Guilds are all about having over 50 members to bid for guild traders and all you see is 200-500 member guilds that don't respond, useless, and in multiple factions and multiple levels that don't even match yours by increments of 5. I for one hope they get rid of money in this game because its ruining a great guild system. Everywhere you go you get a random invite to a guild. Why? Because they want a guild trader and they don't care about your deserving place. Excuse my complaints but I am just tired of looking for good guilds that all they care about is making money that is worthless because of the guild traders.

I agree. Too many guild nowadays are either just dead or all about gold. I am lucky enough to be a member of 3 amazing guild that do pledges and Cyrodiil, and we can even form grops for IC sewers... But in the end I think the problem is that many people just slowly give up. And lose the will to do random fun things. I have a friend who logs in, stands around, and then logs out.. Like what the duck.. So this isn't just about the guilds, it's about players in general. If one has a vision like this one, they should definitely try to see to that there is such a guild, maybe lead it themselves. A good and active guild leader and officer make for 50% of a guild, in my experience.

@Marrtha I did in fact make a guild and gathered some people into it but slowly and surely guild traders became the subject and people refused to use guild chat. I reached to about 20 members than gave up. I'm still friends with the people I run with occassionally but when they are offline I'm forced to yell in area chat to find people to run daily pledges.

Wait guildmates are supposed to drop what they are doing to help me on a whim? Man I'm getting the short end of the stick.... but seriously. Guilds are like any other social setting, you have to put in the effort to get to know people. Just like the real world some people want to be in their small circle of friends.

Sounds like you are in several trade guilds, and you may want to find smaller guilds that want to do content.

Well I don't give one imp stool about the guild trader, and I always try to type in guild chat, get things going etc, help out... That's why I play, that's what I consider fun. This is an MMO. But as I've said, usually it's just the players being toxic as usual.. Not everybody plays in the same way we do.

@Xjcon lol what kind of friend are you. I always drop what I'm doing for a friend. There is plenty of time to invest in Elder Scrolls to make it last a lifetime or until they shutdown the server. Or are you one of those people who say "Nah bro I'm doing this quest I can't help you right now" when you can actually say "I can help you after I finish this quest.

With the Guild Trading system ESO has, the guilds aren't the "typical" guilds found in other games. There are some guilds out there like other MMO's that help others do dungeons and what not but don't expect that from a main Trade guild. You can still ask for groups in there and you'll get an occasional player for your run, but not all the time. Get 3 trade guilds to sell your wares and that leaves you with 2 open spots for PVE/PVP guilds.

I fail to understand the craze of guild traders and meaningless guilds. It irritates me that I have to use 2 of my precious guild slots JUST for trade guilds so that I can do some decent shopping that's actually convenient and sell my own excess loot. And I really LIKE the 2 trade guilds I'm in! They are great people, helpful, do fun things like raffles and trivia events and have tons of crafters that will do things for you, typically free of charge. But I still wish I didn't need them. My other 3 guild slots were taken up by my own RP guild, a guild of RPers to help find other RPers, and a PvP guild. I eventually dropped the PvP guild because PvP is so broken (at least to me) in this game so now I have...another RP guild. I'd LIKE to get involved with a low pressure PvE guild that does dungeons and pledges and trials but haven't found what I'm looking for yet. If I find one though I'll be forced to sacrifice one of my trade guilds. Which brings me right back to wishing I didn't need them in the first place.

I understand ZoS wanting to do something different from the typical Auction House...but what they came up with instead is just bad.

But to answer the OP... you need to decide what you are looking for in a guild and then YOU advertise in guild chat for that kind of guild. You'll get responses and you may have to try a few different ones out before you find the right fit but I guarantee the guild you are looking for is out there.

I was lucky enough to meet a couple of people that are absolutely amazing and we enjoy playing together. Rare gems. But on the bright side, the player base is still much better than in some other MMOs.. Not sure if that's the bright side though, it's actually quite sad lol.

I started my own guild quite recently, because I was tired of all the huge guilds not paying attention to their members, except for their "elite players". I think a good guild offers more then just help with quests or pledges. A good guild takes inexperienced players on their dungeon runs and observes how they play and gives tips on how to improve their gameplay and help with building a character and gearing up. Strong members mean a stronger guild, wich improves everyone's gameplay and experience. This is how a guild should be in my opinion and has always been like this for me in the mmo's that I played. Ofcourse you need to find the right guild, but once you found it.. :)

Since I'm on console with no text chat available, a guild means absolutely nothing to me other than just a funny name to claim a Keep with, in Cyrodiil.

I used to join trading guilds until they kept losing their guild trader not long after I listed 20+ items up, costing me a big amount, only for it all to go to waste.

It is an interesting question. In past games such as EQ or DAoC I met people. grouped with them, learned a little about the person behind the character then joined the guild. I think there are two different things about the ESO system as has been stated the economic structure is tied into guilds so it benefits you more to be in a guild then not to be in one. The other thing that from level 1-VR14 you can do 98% of the content solo on most builds and there are some that can do 100% of it so there is less of a need/desire to be social and group with others.
I get frustrated when no one talks to me or see people refusing to help others in the guild. There is also the interesting facet that 95% of the groups even if they are from your guild will be PUGs, I have really not found a solid constant group to run with. I know there are those who have but it hasn't been my experience.

A guild is some kind of crazy party, where someone puts on Mannimarco's armor, while other are skeletons, where you rush keeps and outposts while the "necromancer" is holding a staff as high as possible and typing in group chat "You shall fall to my army" as the skeletons promptly ram the keep and kill anyone inside. Also where people take turns and get to be the big bad dude.

A guild is full of people trolling each other, making bad jokes, but always ending up writing a "Nah, jking, still love you <3".

A guild is a bunch of coordinated people that go like "Oh f***" when they see they have to defend a keep from 30 guys, when they're 10, placing all sieges, preparing as the inner door falls down and a fierce battle starts, and where, whatever the outcome is, no one rages, "we did our best, still well done" in the worst case.

A guild is a place where you get to kill your own guildies by playing another alt in an enemy faction, and they still love you.

A guild is many other things, but I'll let you keep going :)

What is a guild to me? A collective of players striving toward a common goal. But as it happens, many are united under the goal of economic prosperity. Such a goal does not require much social interaction even though it is far from prohibited.
Where other guilds demonstrate their unity by way of group invites and battle triumphs, they do by way of bartering and price comparing. Just like the dungeons and trials, economic participation is a part of the game and that is what trading guilds focus on.
Thus, many (but not all) trading guilds are simply not interested in running daily pledges, grouping to PvP or what have you--that is simply not what they exactly had in mind when they signed up for a trading guild. If they were interested in that sort of thing then one would simply join a another (PvE, RP, PvP and/or endgame) guild.

While it is certainly not everyone's cup of tea, trading guilds still serve a purpose within the game. Advancement of economic gain aside, there do exist certain people who want to simply participate in the game economy without speaking to another player. Be it simply not being interested or some amount genuine social anxiety/awkwardness, these guilds provide the outlet for them to both participate in the economy as well as being the potential gateway to more social interactions--even if only in a small way. In this manner, even the most anti-social or socially awkward player can be introduced into a larger player community because of the lax socialite atmosphere many guilds posses.

I actually quite like the 'companionable silence' approach many guilds go for. But of course I have met more than a few friends in such groups too and that is cool too. If you want a group of people whom you group with at any time, then there are several PvE/PvP/Endgame guilds you can join where they are united under the idea of fighting the game's content.

I run a guild successfully, and I have around 40 very active members, with some inactives. I keep the inactives for the purpose of a trader, which boosts my current active members and myself.

We are very social and help out where we can, however we don't just drop what we're doing to help someone out. The reason is that we're mainly v16's and all have full 5 guilds, obligations and other friends to tend to. The most social members I have in my guild are actually the lowbies or those who just lvl'ed up, don't have a big enough network and obligations in the game to tend to. I continue to encourage people to join up and do stuff together, get friends and I recomend them other guilds to join - in specific cases where they already have 5 guilds, I recomend them to leave my guild and make sure they get an invite to a guild that would benefit them more.

I am also in another social guild beside my own, and I prioritize a v1 who needs help with a pledge above a lvl12 member from my own guild who needs help with a world boss. The reason is that the v1 needs a group to complete the pledge with, while the lvl12 will soon experience a ton of players running toward that world boss regardless of his cry in my guild.

Beside that, when me and my officers help out a new member of my guild with stuff like normal Dragonstar Arena, that does not mean we have interest in farming the dungeon with that person. We simply helped out the first time, to give that person a good introduction and an idea of how the dungeon works and can be handled.

As a guildmaster this is what I experience when I log in:
10 seconds of logging in: minimum 2 people whisper me.
Maximum of 5 minutes: I am grouped up for at least 2 dungeon runs.

Meanwhile I am in the dungeon I get whispers and asked about stuff like
    "how do I steal"
    "where is auction house located"
    "wanna do pledges?"
"QQ my house was ruined by a storm"
    "QQ my girlfriend broke up"
"can you craft me medium dwemer v2 ashen grip for pvp?"
"I'm v5 in Sanctum in Craglorn, I need help here can you help me pls it's only 1 dungeon"
"I made this char to learn to pve, but people still say I have low dps as nightblade, I got a full good dps armor now, pls help me" *links engine guardian helmet and shoulder*
"QQ my addon destroyed all my mats"

Keep in mind, that there is also content and stuff I would like to do - beside helping others. Same goes for my officers.

That was actually before IC patch, however last time I helped him with pledges was about a week ago, I saw him still wearing it. It took us 10 minutes to get the endboss in Crypt of Hearts down to 40% health..... I normally join groups as a healer. ^^

I personally really like Sypher, but I would wish my friends and guildies would stop copying him for pve content. Everytime someone I know mentions Sypher or Deltia I get really nervous.... xD
