AP for tanky characters?

DPS in Cyrodil can get some AP easily by scoring kills, same with healers who use AoE heals and HOTs.

Then goes the lame tank (and c'me on, every war needs first line soldiers, and I am aware that it's uselss running a tanky build in Cyro by many opinions), who's unable to score a kill, wont be your heal-bot neither, but -if not ignored, in the heat of battle- can give a tiny chance to his team mates to win the battles.

But for that ungrateful job they receive no reward.

I'd love to see getting AP for eating damage, or blocking or whatever.
(Allthough that would unbalance the whole AP distribution business I guess.)

There ought to be some incentive to make PvP tanky builds more fun and chosen. For the sake of diversity and opening new tactics.

Thoughts?

(aside, forget tanks in PvP. I simply love front line bulky soldiers, and unhappy seeing their numbers decline, as they lose their purpose more and more)

Big fat Nord Dragon knight with a huge hammer. - Tank
Stealthy argonian witch templar - Healer (lowbie)

I make AP by guarding any of the siege engines by knocking about and stunning and occupying anyone that tries to attack and I'm always the first on a flag to try to reduce the damage output and stun all the NPCs. Doing that I make just as much AP because I'm registered as a constant part of the fight.

Sure, I could see AP for using a skill like Guard. I like this idea and I think it would be an interesting addition to pvp.

I think you are mistaken, Magicka sorcs exist in this game and are arguably the strongest of the class setups. They also do alot of damage and are super mobile on top of it.

While I agree that tanky or support characters that give out debuffs and buffs and not heals or damage should get AP in a better way I also think that AP as it is now is BS to start with. Give us proper objectives and gives us good, I mean really good AP for completing said objective.

Taking a keep should give AP no matter if it was defended or not, taking a resource should give AP no matter if it was defended or not. Securing a keep and all its resources should give us a reward worthy of the price we just took for our alliance.

You can make as much AP as a tank as you can in any other role.

    How? I wanna know.
Or you mean by mimicing a different role, like grabbing a resto staff and spamming springs and mutagen?

Might by just my wrong observation, but the healer in our group for instance, roughly playing the same ammount, acquires at least 5 times the AP I can.

@Winterpsy If you're in a group, everyone in the group gets the same amount of AP. It used to be that healers would get AP for healing people outside the group, though to my knowledge that was corrected a few patches ago and now that AP is split among everyone.

Consider though that the grand majority of damage (93% of damage I've taken in the past week) is from AoEs these days, so you're not actually absorbing much for your peers. There may be value in having a disruptor build (to cc / slow / stun / snare / debuff opponents), though right now, the way Cyrodiil works if you're in a group then being a tank doesn't really help them out as much as if you were in a damage build.

If you run solo, then forget about AP as a tank. You need to do enough damage to an opponent to get AP for their kill, and as a tank you just won't be able to get anywhere close to the amount if you were a DPS.
