Whispers from enemy faction?

stewart.leslie76b16_ESO
I can understand getting whispers from guildies and people in friends list. But why am I getting whispers from members of the enemy faction whilst in PvP? I was under the impression that this couldn't and shouldn't happen.

You were wrong. You can't see any /zone or /say from enemy factions, but they've always been able to whisper you.

As long as they can type "/tell youruser/charactername," they can whisper you.

Yes, so if you get a whisper from a stranger while you're trying to crack a chest in the Imperial City, odds are you're about to get into a world of hurt. :*

This has always been the case of other factions being able to whisper you.

Ok, fair enough, my mistake there. Now for the next question, why am I getting tells from members of the enemy faction? There's no reason I can think of as to why I would ever want to speak with them in a PvP zone.

I personally feel that ESO messed up on not making more of a seperation between factions. You can be any race in any faction with just $20 extra bucks. No real point in being in a faction at all other than leveling areas.
As a casual player I was satisfied that at one point I had a char max level and near max crafting with almost all motifs and I pretty much lost interest. Then ESO discovered DLC's and now my main is just a wanabe and I am happily pulled back into the game.

It's really just the alliance war. Other than that, I'm pretty sure many fans actually protested the factions.... Hence veteran zones, etc.

I mean, I'm assuming it's rage tells. A few choice insults. Some grasping at straws. But I do not actually know.

What was said doesn't really matter but at the time I was trying to work something out and receiving tells which made sense to me in the context of what I was asking resulted in me making an almighty *** up. So my mistake fair enough, but still there is no reason for me to ever want tells from enemy faction members. I have no intention to set up a football match with them on Christmas Day.

Which is ok fair enough, but at most I only want tells from faction, guild and friends.During a PvP encounter, getting tells from enemy isn't exactly on the list. But it's not something that I can disable as the only way is a blanket block for everyone. Not saying it should be stopped, but there should be a way to prevent it for those that don't want it.

There is that ignore option if you didn't know. It helps very much if you are sensitive and fall easily under the influence of angry nerds that wish to wisper you

The only time I have ever seen people getting tells from the enemy is when they were either doing something deliberately to antagonize someone on the other faction, or someone on the other faction just wanted to be an a$$hat and troll the other player. Either way it is PvP, so not sure why you would think it wouldn't happen at some point let alone why does this bother you. PvP is not just about the act of the fight but the effect of psyching out your enemy by whatever means available.

Yes but the problem is with ignore, you have to find out who they are first. Like I said, I only want whispers from faction, guild and friends. If someone is not in either of these, I don't want to know. I can filter explicit text, I can set up chat tabs so I it only shows messages from certain channels.

So yes, ignoring is an option, but in this situation, not really.

I've had whisps from enemy players in PvP.

    Sometimes it's after a fight, to congratulate or to rage ;
Sometimes it's from PvEers who ask to please not attack them and let them do their PvE quests

I think it's good to have this.
  • stewart.leslie76b16_ESO
You know what forget it, I'll just block all whispers when I go into PvP, job done.

But like I said in this case all it did was create confusion. It was Sod's Law that what he said made sense to the question I gave to the team, and the actions of the team didn't make sense at the time before I made the decision to do what I did. Stupid mistake, but only more stupid if you don't learn by it.

Oh and Anita, I usually just do a dance, if they dance back I know they are not interested in PvP.

You do know that even if at that point in time, they are whispering from another faction, they sometimes have characters in YOUR faction. Take this with a grain of salt.

But people who do that per whisp do it from stealth :-) This is much safer in case I refuse the truce :-) If you choose to dance your enemy still wants to fight, you're pretty much dead.

A person in my faction received a whisper from some reds telling her she was doing really well for her level. As long as this is the kind of communication we can expect, I really see it as a non-issue.
But sure, I don't see the problem in an option to block cross-faction messages as long as it's disabled by default.

True, but I usually have 2 or 3 other NBs with me in stealth waiting for the attack. Been more then a few times I've danced away, and another faction member comes in to dance only for the rest of my group to come out of stealth and then continue on our way. But then, I never say please don't attack. Cyrodiil was designed to be a dangerous place, and I accept that danger when I go in. I can't wait to start my fishing achievements in there.

But still, I don't want whispers from other faction members, and I now have a working solution where I just block all whispers. Everyone is happy, and everyone is a winner. Also it's the only solution that can't be nerfed.

After you get killed in PvP a number of times by the same person, or a group of folks you come to recognize, you begin to identify with them and like them. I think it's a variant of the Stockholm Syndrome.

And it oftentimes all starts with a whisper from a stranger ... ;)

Sigh, would be much better if you could actually hear chat from other factions players in general chat aka /say

Just seems logical that if you are in the vicinity of a person in the game and they "say" something you should be able to hear WHAT they are "saying."

Also, factions should be able to talk to each other when in game events are being organized like a Grand Melee in the Imperial City Arena

So because it was nice it's a none issue, but it it's insults or something along these lines it's an issue?

Now I acknowledge he had NO idea on the question, it was just pure luck he said the right words at the right time. And let's be honest, the ESO GUI isn't exactly the best, so to be fair I had no idea who was actually in my group. So when I ask a question, receive a whisper that makes sense to what I sasked, and look at what the group is doing which backs up what was said, then yeah, I'm going to make a decision. Just in this case it was a bad decision.

I like the idea about general chat, that can be filtered out, however for the rest of your comment I direct you to post 17 where I state "Not saying it should be stopped, but there should be a way to prevent it for those that don't want it".
