Destiny vs ESO, I don't understand..

    ESO!!!!

Destiny is extremely overrated and i dont know how so many people ended up playing/loving it

I was one of the people that pre-ordered it, i was heavily disappointed, it seemed like a space exploration game...at first when i saw their were different classes it made me feel like you didnt have to be completely dependent on guns...what ever thats fine i rsrely pay shooters so i thought this would me my first

The main reason o got the game, and main reason i seallowed the fact i had to be dependent on games, is because at the time i was really excited about a new game that will let you go to different planets and explore space...

    Bigg disappointment as well

So i discover there arent much worlds to explore. I discover you only find adventure through pieces of land and not the enitre planet. Most quests took me underground instead of actually explore the planet

And even if you try to explore the planet, there is no way to explore it peacefully without mobs fighting you

I know peoplw are annoyed by all the bugs in eso....but id pay eso any day over destiny

I even tried the new expansion everyone was hyped about.. not fun at all still

    1st Point: OMG I mean really......OMG!!!!

Destiny at one point was the best game on the PS4, but after a few weeks, or maybe a couple of months it got really boring!!! the community was plagued by complaints about unfair balancing issues along with poor drop rates, lag, glitches and exploits, there were the gamers who loved the exploits and didn't want them changed, why, because it allowed you to do group content solo! in other words you could CHEAT!!!

The biggest complaint was the fact it forced you to group up in order to fully experience the content it had to offer, however they did finally implement a looking for group solution but not before other gamers took it upon themselves to start the ball rolling.

The multiplayer reward system was a joke, you could have the highest kills in the game and get nothing but XP yet have the lowest kills and get XP plus weapons or a ship etc????

2nd Point: Destiny is a FPS

The only main difference between the community is Destiny gamers seem to complain about the game constructively, here most just seem to throw abuse!!!

ESO you can buy stuff instead of looking for it, well if Destiny offered this, I would have bought their crap too, it's who I am :p

Coming from a hardcore destiny fan, I like eso more. Destiny didn't feel like an mmo one bit, when Crota dlc was we had everything done within a week. The game is to repetitive and boring once you've done it all in a small time frame. Seems like it wasn't worth the money in my opinion. Eso has hundreds of hours of gameplay. One more thing with destiny, they took away part of a recent dlc that you paid for(trials), and there dlc was already implemented into the game before and they decided to make you pay extra for that content. Anyway, we all are titled to an opinion I guess.

I agree with you. I got played by the hype and presentation before lauch. It was fun for awhile. But then the grind of doing dailies, weeklies, and pretty much everything over and over on 3 toons got so boring. All the negatives about destiny are true. And the community is one of the most toxic i have ever seen. I was so sick of it i didnt even download the 2nd dlc of the season pass that i already paid for, and i am cheap as hell so that says a lot right there!
I dropped it for Neverwinter and then moved to eso at launch on console. I love eso and don't have many complaints. Obviously the loading screens are a big issue currently. But i like vr lvls and cps and don't want them removed to just be returned to lvl 50, boring.
There are other worlds than these.

LOL, then you would guess WAY WAY WAY WRONG. Destiny has about 16 million active players. ESO has 2-3 million tops.

Looking at patch notes it looks like ZoS goes for the huge fix number than the smaller consistent changes others do.

My example is Neverwinter, many bugs in beginning but consistently fixed them within a short time. ZoS seemed to fix more problems but took longer to do it.

I can venture a guess a huge draw to Neverwinter was the ability to gain real money currency (would be our crowns) through in game action. If we could buy crowns with gold, i would be super happy.

I'm really really REALLY hoping that now its on console updates are forth coming.

Can't we all just agree that ESO is a good game (with flaws as so many have pointed out) that is not really able to be compared to other MMORPG's on the market.

Can we not agree also that ESO is NOT a TES game. It may be set in the universe created by TES over the years, but it is NOT a game that the average TES player will easily adjust to. At least, that is what I have gotten from what formerly was a group of approximately 45 friends (myself included), that purchased the game for console when it was released. Exactly 4 of us still play it. What do we have in common? We accept that it is not "Skyrim with Friends". It is it's own entity.

Too many of us old TES players came in with the assumption that a single player series would be translated smoothly in to an MMO format. More than anything else, I think it is the PvP and grouping that has thrown most of my friends and caused them to quit.

ESO is a GREAT game! I accept it for what it is. I may not play often any longer because I am not a "social" gamer, a PvPer or an MMO enjoyer, but it is, none-the-less, ESO is certainly worth the time it takes to play it and can always be enjoyable.

Sure it has flaws, but it has an immense amount of strengths as well and I, for one, hope that it continues and, even if it doesn't grow in numbers or participants significantly, that it builds on it strengths and has some longevity.

    This post is delusional.

ESO was released with a massive amount of content, with a plan to integrate future DLC's, that weren't created yet.

Destiny, was created, marketed, slashed in half, then sold piece by piece to brainless consumers.

I don't want ZOS to be anything like Bungievision, they take a while cause they are creating NEW content, not finding a way to get a customer to buy something they already paid for..

ESO is played across three platforms, Destiny only one.

I would guess the player base for Destiny is smaller than ESO.

Actually, Destiny has a much larger player base than ESO.
Initial sales alone were more than 20,000,000 copies...if I recall correctly.
(I don't like Destiny, so I have no idea how many copies of the new expansion "The Taken King" has sold...I really hate Destiny.)

And, if you even look at the forum traffic of the two games you will notice much more traffic on the Destiny boards.
    For example...
If you make a post to the Destiny forum by the time you have typed and posted a simple three line post it will have already been moved to about page three due to so many new posts per minute.
Very high traffic...and not all just trolls.
Here, in the ESO forum, on the first page alone the bottom post can be as much as 5 hours old.
Rather low traffic...and many repititions of the same topics.

Yes, I admit, forum use does NOT truly show an amount of player base.
However, it does show a very good indication of it.

But...I hate Destiny, and wish it would go the way of the Dodo.

It would be a buggy, generic and often hilarious game (because of the bugs, bizarrely poor A.I and voice acting) with no real innovations to speak of other than things ripped off from Bioshock, dreadful animations (especially for modern AAA title), poor weapon-flailing melee combat (likewise with dreadful animations), easily-exploitable core game mechanics, which would ultimately be fixed by modders and receive an undue amount of praise.

It would have been a better game coming from people who know TES world and seem to love it.

Yeah, as a F2P game, Warframe is best in class. It has a lot in common with Destiny, but for what it costs the quality of the content and continued suppot is unmatched. Its biggest flaw is the repetitive nature of the game but with an entire arsenal of weapons and classes (warframes) the game offers a lot of variety within that repetition. I have stopped playing Warframe to give ESO my full attention but everytime I read the patch notes or watch a dev stream I think I made the wrong choice. DE is far superior to ZOS and Bungie in regards to how they treat their community.

INCREDIBLE QUALITY OF LIFE UPGRADES!!!!!! WOW 2 NEW STRIKES AND 4 MISSIONS!!!!! omg!@!! MORE VAULT SPACE??? OMG THEY WORKED SO HARD. Srsly though no. Destiny barely changed *** from launch. Taken king is an exception and they changed a good amount and made it a better experience, BUT ITS A 40 DOLLAR DLC so its not some amazing thing that they did. Ya really cant compare the games so much. Destiny and warframe is a better comparison. And i would probably say warframe. You want HUGE updates that basically change the game everytime? Warframe. They basically redid the entire movement system. Of course i play destiny, eso, AND warframe and i love em all

Here's the sad truth, both games are broken and trying to figure out what they want to be when they grow up.

Destiny (BNG) started off with a personality crisis, was it an RPG, an MMO, or something else, devs didn't even know... then they landed on shared world shooter... I'm not going to argue with anyone here, go look up the history, its actually quite fascinating from a business pitch, build over several years, and development landscape. They lost key members a year before launch, went through another personality crisis, and launched... over the course of year one launch, they stumbled horribly, but had an outstanding fundamental of mechanics they built to keep you interested... but they lacked real content, they tried and failed miserably with two misteps of bad DLC, crushed player feel for investment, ruined their own economy, multiple times, became known for inventing things to do, which you had to grind for to obtain, only to make them completely worthless by the next update... now, they claim to have learned, have changed yet again, have revamped, rebuilt, restructured, and come out with the Taken King... but, all year one Gear will be sunset... and in year 2 - you start over... bye, bye investment... players love the new shiny, but are not attached on any personal level, to anything in the game or the build hierarchy... they are losing long time fans and bleeding player base so badly, its laughable. Where they started with a mixed base of genre bending player base from all aspects, they are left with your very traditional, mostly FPS fans... and little more... where they were on an MMORPG embrace, where they will land now, nobody really knows.... and even fewer care. I played from alpha, beta all the way up to The Taken King, but had my fill. I gave them a year to get their crap together, but I was done with the failed promises, and the lack of ability to deliver on what should have been a real MMO experience. They failed. It became far too grindy and they continually *** on their own potential and progress for a real RPG experience.

ESO launched on PC with numerous bugs and big expectations. After a year and several patches and changes, it has started to figure out where it wanted to go. Several tweaks, tunes later, a system was formed of MMORPG group dungeon crawling, delvs, rewards, and gear grinding with end game content in the form of large group PvE trials, small group vet dungeons, hard mode challenges in dungeons, Undaunted challenges, monster sets, cyrondil PvP campaigns and loot tables... With the game running fairly good, they bring consoles on board, and let them run for a few months - what a huge insurgance of funds and customers. Now things are looking good! However, someone had the Imperial city idea - which turned out to be horrible, on just about every front... that's when the wheels started to come off the bus... someone decided to take grinding to a whole new level... first with Ambrosia, then glass armor <sigh> enough about that though... these are minor in the grand scheme. There was this fun idea to rebalance PvP... the bane of so many PvE / PvP games.... this had various domino effects. They couldn't leave well enough alone... so many skills, so many racial classes, vamp / werewolf... so many things were changed... it was massive... characters across the board who had power, now felt weaker... in PvE zones where you could hold your own, now you couldn't... dungeons you and your team used to be able to handle, now you couldn't... in a blink, the game as a whole changed in power curve. Why? IC happened... Players, felt betrayed... but, never fear... ZoS says when you get to VR16 - you'll feel like you have all your power back again... heh... so, they take it away - and the carrot is - play more, and you can have it back??? that's the message??? no, no betrayal there... Next up, increase level cap, which could have been Okay in itself... but they made the horrible mistake of NOT maintaining all the investment folks had made in obtaining end game loot... now, all their effort, all their work was lost... this is another form of loss or consumer / player betrayal. Its very similar to what the dev's at BNG did with Destiny to players when they pulled the rug out from those players in each of their updates. Why do we player your games if at each update, all you do is take stuff away from us that we had, make us feel worse, and ask us to play more doing the same stuff we once did??? Nobody thinks that's fun - BNG / ZoS!!!. Now, all the folks who had collected any amount of end game gear in ESO had to put together new collections and start over... as the new level cap was VR16... and the new gear cap was VR16... so all their old gear was in an instant, going to be meaningless... and back to the gear grind they went, all the memories down the tubes. Horrible decision. Next we have the massive exodus from cyrodil to Imperial City... why, because anyone who was in Cyrodil in PvP, wants to experience IC... or, if you had VR14 and want to make VR16, that's where you now have to go... or if you want the gear, that's where the new economy and items are... etc... why??? Cause it wasn't thought out very well... and guess what, that's also where the new PvE story is... <sigh> So, PvP as we knew it, is dead... those players are irritated with ZoS, cause they have to deal with this new thing in IC which is not the PvP they are looking for... PvE players, looking for the new PvE content in IC are also irritated, cause IC... it's a PVP space... they don't want to sit through wait timers to get to PvE... and once they do finally get in, its filled with gankers, zergs, and a rediculous over glut of mobs to accomodate the aforementioned zergs... so, it's not really anything the PvE crowd is happy with either.

So what does IC boil down to:
    - a lot of player confusion with that respec of all toons, as it was poorly communicated and managed
    - a net reduction in power, for any toon you had (the lower, the worse you felt it)
    - 2 more levels to grind through at end game, for now real purpose in the end...
    - a loss of all of your hard earned VR14 gear's value
    - an opportunity to go earn all the same end game gear you already may have had, but now - at VR16
    - grind quest for glass armor
    - grind items so you can build glass armor
    - grind items like telvar stones... and the list goes on for the various things in IC, if you want it
    - unhappy legacy PC players, your smallest player base, but your oldest and vets
    - unhappy newest player base - but your largest who most recently spent money - the console players
    - unhappy PvP players in general
    - unhappy PvE players in general
    - Player community at large wondering - who is really in charge and why are they making this game more painful instead of more fun?

From my perspective, there is more than one DESTINY similarity to ESO here, but it has NOTHING to do with how either game plays... it has EVERYTHING to do with the business of the game development and how the management of the persistent world and future development is handled.

Interesting Thread OP. I get it... we are not talking about game mechanics at all here.
