What is the point in PvEing, the way as it is now?

Oh gee I don't know the fact that it's just playing the game? I mean really people are always complaining about rewards for their efforts but aren't we all ultimately here just to play the game regardless of rhyme or reason? I know I am.
To have fun.

Im not even a fan of IC. But PvPers up until now have gone without any new to do PvP wise. Theyve been starving for new content. And the moment they get it. PvEers cry foul. God forbid the game doesnt spend every update focused on you.
Orsinium is right around the corner. Theyve already begun spinning up the PR machine for it on Twitter. With Orsinium we're getting more PvE.
For all the complaining about B2P/F2P. PvEers sure do love to take advantage of the quick turn around on content for these types of games. Constantly complaining if it doesnt come out fast enough.

PvE to me is either playing the game or group activities with friends. If I find some goodies along the way good for me but my luck is pretty lame so I never expect too much. Then again, I'm also a completionist lol
Congratulations. You just figured out the secret of every MMORPG ever created past, present and future.
It's like an Ouroboros. An endless cycle of grinding and regrinding, always getting just a taste of power before the cycle repeats.

+1 Pretty much.
MMOs originally were never meant to even HAVE an endgame. The creators of games like EverQuest thought that their game would have a 10-year XP leveling grind. That was proven very wrong as they had no way of knowing what force they would awaken in players. A game that was meant to be played for a few hours per day or week casually as any tabletop RPG is done was immediately turned into a SECOND JOB by many players crunching 8+ hours PER DAY into the grind. People surrendered their real lives for a fantasy one online.
The concept of raiding and endgames was invented later once the developers realized they couldn't create content at the rate players were devouring it, which was the original goal of these MMOs -- to have eternal progression and unlimited content. Considering even real life RPG fans weren't this fanatic, they simply couldn't predict how hardcore the newborn MMO community would become.
Endgames were a desperate measure hotfix thrown together to buy devs some time to produce content. Eventually, after seeing how successful the concept was, IT BECAME THE CONTENT.

Well said. I too, am a completionist so there has always been a great deal to mess around and accomplish. I feel like mmo's cater to people of our persuasion, but attract the opposite type of personalities. So, in turn you see a lot of, "there's no content and nothing to do," from people with no alts, haven't completed silver and gold, and have barely any achievements in the journal. The counter argument to that is of course, "well if the stuff to do was different or I liked it better I would." But to that statement all I can say is...welcome to mmo's, perhaps you landed in the wrong genre?

So what do you do, when you have completed all of the achievements, aquired all the gear, and have completed every dungeon out there?

You still just keep playing the game. Either that or play a different game, whichever your interest level lies in lol

Which is why progression is dying. Sandbox is returning as the wave of the future. Landmark shows that EQNext will incorporate Minecraft to the game, shooter like PlanetSide or H1Z1 or Warframe give more free range on content rather than chaining players to a path, upcoming MMOs such as Crowfall, Camelot Unchained, Albion Online, The Repopulation, Star Citizen, Revival, and more are steeply seeped in the concept of sandbox gameplay with no routes to follow and all the world to explore.
Players don't want to be told what to do and given a map to follow anymore. They want to create their own goals and have clear understanding how to accomplish those goals.
We are entering the age of Emergent Gameplay.
Progression is going the way of the dinosaurs.
