Maintenance for the week of January 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – January 6
• NA megaservers for maintenance – January 8, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 8:00AM EST (13:00 UTC)
• EU megaservers for maintenance – January 8, 9:00 UTC (4:00AM EST) - 13:00 UTC (8:00AM EST)

Why All the Maintenance?

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad there's support as I assume it's necessary. But why? None of my other online resources are taken down with such high regularity? Was the backend designed (or implemented) terribly crufty? Are all MMOs like this?

    For the reasons, mostly.

Other online applications have 100% available by rotating through servers while they reboot, so there's always service availability. Again , this is very basic computer science and it's a pretty basic and common practice. Now explain to me why ESO doesn't do this? [snip]

Maintenance always used to be twice a week, so this isn't new, it just went away for a while.

Well I have to say that the performance has been much improved now that maintenance is happening more frequently. So it's appreciated, but I still don't understand why they have to take down everything at once.

I don't know how much servers cost to set up, maintain, and store, but I really don't think ZOS wants to spend obscene amounts of money to basically double servers just so the game isn't completely down for a few hours on average one day a week. Too much cost for too little gain. I can assume that the megaserver takes up a lot of hardware and space so that's where I'm getting the idea that it'll cost a hefty price.

I'll bet they buy services from a server farm provider. I doubt it would be that much more to keep it up. They probably don't want to bother. Churning out more grindy DLC is more profitable.

I'm willing to bet even if they bought services from a provider it would still be more costly to do that than to provide actual game content. You really seem to have your heart set on making ZOS out to be like everyone in the company is out to scam you or something.

So you think having a few duplicate servers they routinely swapped into for maintenance would cost more than developing, testing, deploying , and maintaining new DLCs. I see you have no idea about the costs of software development.

Wouldn't these "few" more MEGA-servers that they should get need to have the information updated to be able to swap? Are you seriously saying to have 3 megaservers connected simultaneously is the solution to you not wanting weekly maintenance?

For real man, take the soother out and play the game.

Just a wild guess: they put in new Crown Store items and nerf the drop again?

Poor frame rates and sensitivity to network outages have not been fixed.

I am honestly surprised no one (so far since I am honestly skipping most post) has mentioned that he is complaining that they havent fixed the game not working when networks go out trollolololololololololol

Thrasher time to go back to single player games man, no offense. If you enjoy it here stay, please! If you do not enjoy it here, which it is very clear you do not, then leave on a high note by not doing what you are currently doing. Just my two cents :)

Diablo 3 doesnt do that, WoW does not do this, FF15 doesnt, I could keep naming very popular games that are online only that do NOT do this "common practice" you keep talking about. It is not cost effective to do this. Not with games of these sizes and magnitude. [snip]
