Lava Whip from NPC's don't seem ranged correctly.

Have died several times over the last few days, in Craglorn & IC from this, and each time I have been at full bow range of 27-28 metres.
Most reportable circumstance was shooting arrows at full range to an island that the NPC's wouldn't/couldn't leave.
Last 5-6 attacks on my death page were a thrown dagger (fair enough), & 4-5 lava whips (or a morph thereof).
Being at range I wasn't looking at my health, my bad, so then I experimented several times over, and each time the same result at such range that I could only fire my greatest range arrow skill, not even a light or heavy attack.
Each occasion there's:
1: No animation (many NPC attacks have no animation at present annoyingly, but I presume this is widely known already), but more worryingly,
2: I am well out of range being at my full bow range.
So there appears an issue with this attack at present.
If someone could look into this please?
