My problem was I was into the vet levels. At first I was happy to get some points out of skills I wasn't using, but then I got into "wait... Did I have that passive or not... Uh... Hmm." We don't all have eidetic memory.

But as others have said, it's not the false dichotomy the poll tries to force us into (no vote from me). The idea above of a free respec scroll sounds like the perfect solution.

I hope the devs considee this thread.

The complainers are lazy casuals that don't go on the forums or have any idea that half of the skill morphs have been changed, hence necessitizing a skill reset.

I hope they don't go through with this. I don't wanna spend 20k gold to try a new buffed morph of a skill.

What do you want me to say? I got forgetful on a few of the passives. I'm not a break out the spreadsheet and optimize my character type of player. I play for fun and to unwind after work.

I'm not saying it was a major disaster. It just would have been nice to jot down a couple things before a reset. It's amazing to me that could be such a controversial position.

WhY would you not want a free reset with major changes?

Also they gave plenty of warning on the forums about the reset, people had a lot of time to take some screenshots.

The issue that some have is that unless you visit their forums, there is no heads up what so ever.
It's been a big suggestion I've encouraged them to use on each consoles game launcher. Why aren't news articles frequently placed there like on the PC launcher.

It's an intentional decision that they've made not to inform console players so in return you'll always see harsh complaints.
While this doesn't bother me it does negatively impact hundreds of thousands of others due to ZOS' poor communication decisions for consoles.

Patch days, server updates, changes and issues are NEVER given to console players. Not even a link or way to jump from the console to this page. ZOS would better serve its own customers if they used the consoles social and console launcher to update the players when the forums are updated.

This is definitely the real problem. With imperial city I had to inform several of my guild mates that changes had been made to skills.

Well, as a console player, I'm going to say this: it was our first major patch and the skill reset was a complete surprise.

I did see a thread about it, but not until the patch was applied. Even still, this doesn't mean every console player comes to this forum.

A note on the sign-on screen would have been nice.

However, I don't believe there was "outrage" as much as confusion. Most people figured it out, and judging by the forum, a very few didn't know why their skills were "gone".

I'd rather have the reset as it'll allow me to recapture wasted skills. Of course, I could respec, but why spend 3000g for one or two skills back.

I can't agree with ZoS' assessment with this one. By failing to alert console players of the reset, this is their burden to carry, especially since they waste no time posting a message telling us new DLC is available.

Regardless of the poll, ZoS seems to have made up its mind. Poorly.

PS4 and XBox one players that a mad about this will be up in Arms when they have to respec a few max level toons on their own dimes.

ZoS needs to let PC and Mac players keep the free respecs and wait till they want the free way back

The simple, easy, customer friendly, make everyone happy, answer would be to give an OPTIONAL respec with a time limit. Say 7 days starting the next time you log onto that character.

I have at times found the mandatory respec to be frustrating, not just in this game.

If I am coming back to a game I have not played in some time and find all my characters reset it can be very annoying to try and remember how I had them built and what to do with them to get them working again.

With an optional respec I can look and see what I was doing and if I want to reset everything.

Cant see why ZOS would not do this, everyone would be happy.

Well maybe not the guy that was to spend a day programming it.

It's what the game mail is for, Z. Mail out a free respec item good for each current char on the account. Have it expire in 30 days as per usual. Rocket science not required

I've been wondering. I don't remember what happened this time, but when we got free respecs before, there was a pop-up on the screen telling me about it when I first logged in after the patch. Was it disabled this time? Bugged? Do consoles have this pop-up at all?

You make a fair point here and I even said in my post that I think most of the outrage is because console players didn't know skill resets would happen. What I will point out, is that the only reason PC players know is because they visit the forums. These things you mentioned aren't really "given" to PC players either ( Not on launcher, only on forums).

However, more communication/ information in the launcher for those that don't visit forums (both PC and console), would help and make many people happy, so that's a great idea

they could just mail respec scrolls in the mail to players upon log in.... then its both a respec and not a respec. then again, they could just change respecing entirely, and make it so you can select and deselect abilities, and pay only when you actually change something as opposed to changing everything for a handful of abilities.....

Since certain changes might not be preferred by a player, it would make sense for that player to drop certain spells in favour of others.

However, that being said, it would be nice to make a respec optional. That is to say, not reset players' skill points but give an optional reset for free. So this way, players can check what changed, including numbers, and if they do not like said changes, they can reset their skill points. On the other hand, if the player does not mind the changes and wants to keep his skills as is, it would suck to have to allocate all the points to the appropriate abilities all over again to have them exactly as they were before the update.

The only issue (if you even want to call it that) is that some people don't want to have to spend the 2 minutes reallocating their skill points.

The whole problem could be solved by making the respec optional, instead of forced. And there are several possible ways of doing that:

- Allow free respecs at shrines for a week or two after the update.

- Mail a "respec scroll" to every player, which they can choose to use whenever they want.

- Revamp the respec system to work more like the Champion Point system, where you respec by incrementing and decrementing existing skills to add and delete them (instead of just wiping everything).

ANY of those options would negate the "complaint" about the forced respec, and they are ALL better than simply taking it away.

I get the impression consoles are just an easy target for them, most console players know that respecs are both needed and helpful after an update which sees changes to certain skills and the minority whom didn't don't warrant such a knee jerk response.
My guess is that it's more to do with charging for respecs on the crown store.

Why are all decisions all or none? Just give all users a token to cash in for a free respec. Then they choose to do it whenever they want if at all.

At first I was kinda of upset but when I saw that I could get other skills I wanted before but didn't have the points I was board. I think people just keep complaining but keep playing. Which is making it Hader for players who love the game and don't mind paying or putting time in the game and what it's has to offer.

OP's suggestion is spot-on; free respec in-game, but instead of for a week, maybe for the first 3 times you log on with each character; that way, if you can't play directly after the update, you won't miss your opportunity.
